St Mirren make the journey to the capital on Saturday as Jim Goodwin's side face Hibernian in the cinch Premiership.

The Buddies head to Easter Road having drawn their previous two league fixtures with games against Dundee United and St Johnstone ending goalless.

Saints go to the capital looking for that first league win of the season. Three draws and two defeats from their opening five cinch Premiership matches see Jim Goodwin's men sitting in 10th place in the league on three points. 

Hibs sit in second place in the league having won three and drawn two of their first five. The Hibees come into Saturday's match off the back of a 0-0 draw against rivals Hearts in the Edinburgh derby last Sunday. 

Jack Ross' side have won both their home league matches this season - winning 2-0 against Livingston and 3-0 against Ross County last month.

Saints were edged out on their only visit to Easter Road last season. Kevin Nisbet's early strike gave Hibernian a 1-0 win back in December 2020. 

The only meeting in 2021 thus far was at the SMiSA Stadium in February. Again, Hibernian narrowly defeated Saints - winning 2-1 against the 10-man Buddies.

St Mirren's last league win at Easter Road came in 2014. Adam Campbell and Steven Thompson scored after a Ben Williams own-goal to put Saints 3-0 in front after just 26 minutes. James Collins netted twice for the home side in the second-half, but Saints saw the game out as 3-2 winners.

Manager's Thoughts

"Hibs are flying. They've started off exactly where they finished the season last year and they're unbeaten in the league. We're under no illusions of how difficult the task is going to be.

"We've got to have our wits about us at the back, but I do genuinely believe we have players in our team that can cause Hibs problems going the other way as well. That's what we have been working on throughout the course of the week and hopefully that will come to fruition at the weekend.

"We're creating good chances and I think we are getting in some good areas. We just need to keep doing the right things and eventually things will fall for us."

Kevin Clancy is the referee on Saturday. Ralph Gordon and Steven Traynor are his assistants, while Craig Napier is the fourth official. 

The SMiSA Stadium will host the Scotland Women's National Team when they take on Olympic finalists Sweden in October.

16-year-old Dylan Reid impressed as he made his first start for St Mirren in Saturday’s cinch Premiership match against Dundee United.

The St Mirren Youth Academy graduate made history in March when he became the youngest ever player to feature in the Scottish Premiership at the age of 16 years and five days after a substitute appearance against Rangers at Ibrox.

After waiting patiently for his next opportunity, the midfielder played 74 minutes on Saturday in Saints’ 0-0 draw with the Terrors. 

It all comes just a week after the 16-year-old captained Scotland U17s in a friendly against Wales during the international break.

Speaking after his start, Dylan told stmirren.com: "It was great.

I found out on Friday that I was going to be in the team. I was quite nervous, but it was good nerves. I slept like a baby that night. 

"With injuries and suspensions, I knew I could maybe get a chance. The manager told me I had an opportunity and to go and take it. Hopefully I did that and impressed people.

"I just wanted to go out and express myself and challenge myself and I felt I did that.

"It was my first time playing in front of fans and I thought they were excellent. When I had a tackle in the first-half there was a roar from the fans and it gave me a bit of confidence. 

"I’ve been patient and tried to be the best that I can, but it was so great to be out there playing football."

The 16-year-old made way after 74 minutes for midfielder Ryan Flynn and says he looks up to experienced players like that. 

Ryan is such a good player," Dylan said.

"I hate playing against him in training because he's so good and he showed his class when he came on. I’ve wanted to learn from other players when I’ve been watching from the sidelines.

"Guys like that just give me confidence and after games they tell me what I did well and what I could do better which I love and take on board."

Jim Goodwin was full of praise for Dylan, but wasn't surprised by what the 16-year-old brought to the team.

I thought Dylan was excellent," the manager said after the match.

"We knew what we were going to get off him. He’s been training with the group now for the last six to nine months and captained the Scotland under-17s last week. Everyone knows what Dylan is capable of.

"He needs to work on the physical side of his game, but Junior Mendes is working tirelessly with Dylan to make sure he’s eating the right things and doing the right things to bulk up.

"Technically he is one of the best in the group and I thought we saw a really good performance from him. These young guys need an opportunity at some time and I knew Dylan wouldn’t let me down."

St Mirren and Dundee United couldn't be separated as it ended goalless at the SMiSA Stadium. An open game saw both sides create chances, but neither could find a winner as Saints made it three draws from their first five cinch Premiership matches. 

Jim Goodwin made three changes to the starting eleven that faced St Johnstone before the international break. Matt Millar and Connor Ronan made their debuts after signing for Saints over the past week, while 16-year-old Dylan Reid made his first start.

A quiet first-half in which Saints really never got going saw United create the best opportunities. Joe Shaughnessy had to head off the line after Jak Alnwick's save from Ian Harkes spun up in the air and almost found the net. Eight minutes later, Peter Pawlett raced through on goal but blazed well over from 20 yards. 

16-year-old Reid did well to deny United as the first-half drew to a close. He raced back after United burst forward on the counter and put in a brilliant challenge to stop ex-Saint Liam Smith driving into the box.

After a disappointing first-half, Saints started the second 45 better and went on to have the bulk of the possession. Jim Goodwin's men had the ball in the net just before the hour mark when Eamonn Brophy slammed home after he met Curtis Main's header only for it to be ruled out. It was a dubious decision from referee Colin Steven as he penalised Main for what he perceived as a foul on Scott McMann. 

United then had the two best chances of the game to that point. Alnwick was called into action on 62 minutes when he spread himself to block substitute Louis Appere before Marc McNulty missed a gilt-edged one-on-one opportunity - slamming wide from inside the area.

From then until the end of the match it was Saints who created all the pressure and it almost paid off when Richard Tait forced United goalkeeper Trevor Carson into a brilliant stop. The defender met McGrath's clipped delivery but was denied by the excellent one-handed save from Carson.

Despite more pressure, the Buddies couldn't create the chance that would bring a winner and had to settle for a point.

Neither side could be separated on the two occasions that Dundee United visited the SMiSA Stadium last season. Both matches - in November 2020 and May of this year - ended in 0-0 draws. 

St Mirren were victorious in our other meeting with the Terrors this year - winning 5-1 at Tannadice in January. 

Dundee United edged out Saints in last season's first meeting of the two when they defeated Saints 2-1 at Tannadice in September 2020.
