Previous

Saints hosted Livingston on the opening day of the 2020/21 season in our first competitive match since March 2020.

Debut boy Richard Tait's first-half header was enough to secure a 1-0 win for the Buddies.

St Mirren were narrowly beaten when they travelled to the Tony Macaroni Arena back in February. Jon Obika scored in the second-half after Steven Lawless and Lyndon Dykes had put Livi 2-0 ahead, but Saints couldn't find the equaliser.

Saints last win away to Livingston was in April 2019 when a 3-1 victory edged the Buddies closer to Premiership survival.

Who are the officials?

The referee on Saturday is William Collum. His assistants are Frank Connor and David Doig. Graham Grainger is the fourth official.

Up next: Queen's Park v St Mirren (14th Nov)

St Mirren could win Betfred Cup Group G and qualify for the second round when they visit Queen's Park tomorrow afternoon.

A win would guarantee top spot for Saints, while a draw could also be enough depending on the result between Partick Thistle and Morton.

The Buddies go into tomorrow's match in top spot with seven points. Jim Goodwin's men defeated Partick Thistle 4-1 in the first match of the group before picking up bonus points on penalties following draws with Queen of the South (2-2) and Morton (1-1).

Queen's Park cannot qualify for next round having lost all three of their Betfred Cup matches so far. Ray MacKinnon's side lost 2-0 to Partick Thistle, 1-0 to Morton and 3-1 to Queen of the South.

Manager's Thoughts

"Queen's Park have some players who could be playing at a higher level. I am trying to make that point to the players that we shouldn't underestimate them. I think they are a club who could easily be competing in the Championship.

"They have a manager with great experience and have had a really good start to their league. They probably haven't had the kind run in the Betfred Cup that they'd hope for but I think that's down to how tough our group is.

"We are really looking forward to it. It's a chance for some of the lads to play at the national stadium for the first.

"We know if we win the game we will top the group and qualify and that's been our target from the beginning."

Previous

The last time St Mirren faced Queen's Park was in the Betfred Cup in July 2018.

Saints couldn't find a way past the League Two side that night with the game finishing 0-0. The Buddies picked up the bonus point after winning 5-4 on penalties.

Who are the officials?

The referee for tomorrow's match is Greg Aitken. The linesmen are Sean Carr and Colin Drummond.

Up next: St Mirren v Morton (11th Nov)

St Mirren host Morton in the first Renfrewshire derby since 2018 as the Greenock side visit Paisley this evening.

Saints have five points in Group G of the Betfred Cup after a win over Partick Thistle and a draw away to Queen of the South in our opening two matches. A win tonight would put Jim Goodwin's men in a commanding position with one game remaining.

The Buddies come into tonight's match on the back of a 0-0 draw with Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership on Friday night.

Morton, meanwhile, are a point behind Saints having picked up four points from their opening two matches. Morton drew 2-2 with Queen of the South at Cappielow but missed out on the bonus point before defeating Queen's Park 1-0.

David Hopkin's side meet Saints tonight on the back of a 5-0 defeat away to Raith Rovers on Saturday.

Manager's Thoughts

"We want to go and win our Betfred Cup group anyway but the fact it’s against Morton adds to the occasion. I certainly don’t want to be the manager that loses against Morton and I know the players don’t want to be the group that loses to Morton.

"It’s a game we need to win regardless. The fans demand it and we certainly demand it of each other.

"I said to the players it would be great to give the fans something to cheer about. There's nothing better than beating your local rivals and getting the bragging rights."

Previous

Saints last faced Morton in April 2018 on the day the Buddies lifted the Scottish Championship trophy.

Danny Mullen and Lewis Morgan scored either side of half-time to give St Mirren a 2-1 home win in front of a packed SMiSA Stadium.

Saints last Scottish Premiership match came over a month ago when Saints were edged out by a last minute winner away to Aberdeen.

Dundee United, meanwhile, come into Friday's match on the back of a 2-1 win over Ross County at Tannadice on Saturday.

Mickey Mellon's side sit nine points ahead of Saints in sixth place, but have played three games more than the Buddies.

Live coverage starts from 7:30pm.

Manager's Thoughts

"We've got a fair idea of what to expect from Dundee United. I was at their game on Saturday against Ross County and they played really well. They are very well organised and Mickey Mellon has them working really hard.

"We're well aware of how dangerous Dundee United are on the attacking front, but we have to go into it with belief and confidence that we can cause them problems of our own and I believe we have the players within our ranks to do that. It should make for an entertaining game.

"It's a fresh start for us. We can't affect what's happened and everyone knows we've had a tough time as of late. But there's a real air of excitement this week to be back at it and everyone is really looking forward to Friday night."

Previous

St Mirren have already faced Dundee United this season with the Buddies losing 2-1 at Tannadice in September.

Goals from Lawrence Shankland and Adrian Sporle either side of half-time gave United a 2-0 lead. Despite being reduced to 10 men after Richard Tait was sent off, Saints pulled a goal back through Dylan Connolly but were unable to find an equaliser.

St Mirren came out on top, on penalties, when Dundee United last visited St Mirren Park in the Scottish Premiership play-offs in May 2019.

Saints have won their last three league meetings against Dundee United at St Mirren Park winning 2-0, 3-0 and 3-2.

Who are the officials?

David Munro is the referee on Friday. He is assisted by Graham Chambers and John McCrossan. Alan Newlands is the fourth official.

Up next: St Mirren v Motherwell (17th Oct)

St Mirren return to Scottish Premiership action this weekend as Jim Goodwin's men host Motherwell on Saturday.

The Buddies picked up five points from our opening two Betfred Cup matches - defeating Partick Thistle 4-1 at St Mirren Park, before coming from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Queen of the South at Palmerston and taking a bonus point on penalties.

Motherwell haven't been in action since a 5-1 defeat at home against Rangers at the end of September.

Stephen Robinson's side, who aren't involved in the Betfred Cup group stages due to their qualification for Europe, were due to play Kilmarnock at the start of the month, but that match was postponed by the SPFL after the Kilmarnock squad had to self-isolate.

Previous

Saints faced the Steelmen five times last season - winning twice, drawing once and losing twice.

The last meeting saw Ilkay Durmus score a late winner at Fir Park as St Mirren won 2-1 at Fir Park in February.

The two sides couldn't be separated when Motherwell last visited Paisley, also in February, in Scottish Cup action. Mark O'Hara scored the opener for the Steelmen before Alex Jakubiak levelled in the second-half.

Manager's thoughts

"We have to try and approach the game the same way we did the Aberdeen game, obviously with a different outcome.

"If we can take seven points or nine points from the next three games that could really catapult us up the table."

Who are the officials?

Bobby Madden is the referee on Saturday. He is assisted by Calum Spence and Gary Hilland. David Lowe is the fourth official.

Up next: Queen of the South v St Mirren (10th October)

St Mirren head to Dumfries on Saturday afternoon to face Queen of the South in Group G of the Betfred Cup.

Jim Goodwin's side got their cup campaign up and running on Wednesday night with a 4-1 win over Partick Thistle at St Mirren Park.

Richard Tait, Jon Obika and Dylan Connolly all scored as Saints ended a run of six defeats in a row and picked up three points on match one.

Queen of the South played their first competitive match since March on Tuesday night when they faced Greenock Morton in their Betfred Cup opener. The Doonhamers came from behind twice at Cappielow to earn a 2-2 draw before picking up the bonus point in the penalty shoot-out.

Previous

Saturday's match will be the first time St Mirren and Queen of the South have faced since St Mirren's promotion to the Scottish Premiership in 2018.

The Buddies faced Queen of the South four times in the 2017/18 on their way to winning the Championship and came out on top on all four occasions.

Indeed, Saints have won on their four previous trips to Palmerston spanning the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons - winning 3-2 & 2-0 in 2016/17 and 3-2 & 3-1 in 2017/18.

Manager's thoughts

"There have been some upsets already in the cup and it was no surprise that Partick made it as difficult for us the other night as they did. We expect no different from Queen of the South.

"I watched Queen of the South's game against Morton during the week. I thought a draw was probably a fair result given the way the game went. Queen of the South have some players in their ranks that can cause you problems with Stephen Dobbie being the main one.

"It's going to be a difficult game and we will have to approach it in the right manner and be professional. It would be nice to go and win again tomorrow and take some confidence into some big league games coming up."

Team news

Jim Goodwin says he has no injury concerns from the team that played on Wednesday night and confirmed that he hopes to have Kristian Dennis and Ryan Flynn back involved with the squad in the next week to 10 days.

Who are the officials?

William Collum is the man in the middle on Saturday. He is assisted by Graeme Stewart and Graham McNeillie.

Up next: Aberdeen v St Mirren (2nd Oct)

St Mirren make the journey to Aberdeen on Friday night to face the Dons at Pittodrie in the Scottish Premiership.

International subscribers to St Mirren TV will be able to watch the match live as part of their subscription.

Last season

Saints faced Aberdeen four times last season - winning one, drawing one and losing twice.

Ilkay Durmus' first St Mirren goal gave the Buddies a first league win over Aberdeen since 2011 when the sides met for the first time last season.

Aberdeen won 2-1 when Saints travelled to Pittodrie in November, with Tony Andreu missing a late penalty which would have grabbed a share of the spoils for Jim Goodwin's side.

Neither side could be separated when the Dons visited Paisley in January as the game finished 0-0.

The last meeting of the two came at the end of February in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup with Lewis Ferguson and Sam Cosgrove scoring in a 2-0 win for Aberdeen.

Manager's thoughts

"It will be a difficult game. I think they have only had one slip-up all season against Motherwell where they were comfortably beaten.

"I believe that any team is capable of beating any other team on a given day and if we play as well as what we are capable of then we've got as good a chance as Motherwell had.

"We have to do more in the attacking third and we have to be more of an attacking threat and that's what we are going to try and impose.

"The boys are in good spirits and looking forward to it."

Who are the officials?

Gavin Duncan is referee for Friday night's match with Graeme Leslie and Graham Chambers as the linesmen. Alan Muir is the fourth official.

Last season

Saints and Kilmarnock only squared off twice last season in the Scottish Premiership.

Despite a good performance at Rugby Park in October, the Buddies were edged out after a late Gary Dicker goal gave Killie a 1-0 win.

The Ayrshire side were the final visitors to St Mirren Park in 2019 with Saints winning 1-0 thanks to Ilkay Durmus' early strike.

Manager's thoughts

"Kilmarnock are very well-organised, hard-working team and they've got some very good experience in the group.

"We've got a chance on Saturday to try and get a positive scoreline and try to get some more points on the board.

"It should be a good game with not a great deal between the two teams and we'll hope for positive reaction from last week."

Who are the officials?

David Munro is the man in the middle on Saturday's. Calum Spence and Drew Kirkland are the linesmen and David Lowe is the fourth official.

Up next: St Johnstone v St Mirren (29th Aug 2020)

It's the 'battle of the Saints' on Saturday as St Mirren head to Perth to face St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership.

St Mirren have taken seven points from their opening four matches - the best start to a top flight campaign since 2006.

Jim Goodwin's side have beaten both Livingston and Hamilton (1-0), while drew 1-1 with Ross County last weekend.

Meanwhile, St Johnstone have picked up four points from their opening five matches. Callum Davidson's men opened the season with a 1-1 draw away to Dundee United and grabbed three points away to Kilmarnock match day three when Michael O'Halloran's late goal gave the Perth side a 2-1 win.

The two sides couldn't be separated in the next two fixtures drawing 0-0 at McDiarmid and St Mirren Park.

Manager's thoughts

"I've watched St Johnstone live twice and I've been really impressed with them.

"Myself and the analyst watched the rest of their matches on Wyscout but in terms of the two games I saw live on Sky - the Aberdeen and Hibs games - I thought they were really unfortunate to lose both games.

"Callum Davidson has them well organised, they have plenty of energy and they are a decent team.

"We've no new injuries, but Ilkay Durmus will come back into the squad after missing last week."

Who are the officials?

Kevin Clancy is referee for Saturday's match with Alan Mulvanny and Craig Ferguson as the linesmen. Kevin Graham is the fourth official.
