Bung a Baw (19th Oct)

Paisley Panda will host the ever-popular match day competition ‘Bung a Baw’ during the half-time break of Saturday’s match against St Johnstone.

To take part you will receive a small foam ball which is numbered and you will then have a chance to throw your ball towards our club mascot Paisley Panda in front of the Family Stand. Each person will have 60 seconds to do this and the winner will be the person who has thrown the ball closest to the feet of the Panda. The winner will be confirmed over the PA system.

The competition is sponsored by Glen-Bun Bakery who are supplying a full tray of yummy cakes as the prize for the contest winner.

This season it is FREE to take part in 'Bung a Baw'. The balls will be available from inside the Family Stand in the 30 minutes leading up to kick-off and then again in the first 5 minutes of half-time before the competition starts (subject to availability). Each ball is numbered and participants will also get a ticket with the corresponding number which they will use to claim the prize if they win.

‘Bung a Baw’ continues to be very popular so Paisley Panda advises that you get in early on Saturday to get your ball to take part.

As well as taking care of ‘Bung a Baw’, Paisley Panda will be giving away sweets to the kids in and around the stadium courtesy of the Black and White Army website.

Visitor Information

  • Electronic Ticketing System

At the SMiSA Stadium we have an electronic ticketing system in place at the turnstiles.

The process of using the system is fairly straight-forward and easy to use:

    • On entering the turnstile you will see the ticket reader.
    • Place your match ticket (with the barcode or QR code facing upwards) or smartcard – into the aperture
    • Once the ticket/smartcard is accepted into the system the green light will illuminate and an audio alert will sound after which you should hear the turnstile being unlocked
    • Push the turnstile gate and enter the stadium as you normally would.

The whole process will only take a few seconds.

Please note that there will be stewards in attendance to help where required.

  • Street Parking on Matchday

The Club has been made aware of problems occasioned by inconsiderate parking in the area of Tannahill Road.

Seemingly supporters are parking despite the presence of double yellow lines and as a consequence local bus routes are also being blocked because streets in this area are narrow and fans are parking on both sides. People, many of whom are elderly, are having to walk from Greenhill Road to their homes because buses can’t get access.

Residents who have cars parked in driveways are experiencing similar difficulties getting their vehicles in and out. On being approached by local residents some supporters have been somewhat aggressive which could lead to confrontation.

St Mirren Football Club strives to be a good neighbour and we would ask that ALL supporters attending the stadium not only park in accordance with local parking restrictions but also give consideration to the needs of local residents by parking sensibly so as not to occasion an unnecessary obstruction.

  • Picking Up & Dropping Off by Car on Match Day

We are also aware of problems with patrons parking at the front of the Main Stand to pick up disabled supporters at the end of the game. This area is a 'no parking' zone on match days (with cones on the road) and has to be kept clear for emergency access. It is an inappropriate location for disabled spectator uplifts, as not only does it cause an obstruction on the road, it also causes a danger to pedestrians leaving the stadium.

Please note that the designated pick-up/drop off points are either in Drums Avenue or the two lay-byes on Ferguslie Park Avenue.

Jim Goodwin confident Saints will come good in front of goal

St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin is confident his side will build upon their solid defensive record and come good in front of goal.

Goodwin's side have the fourth best defensive record in the Ladbrokes Premiership having only conceded eight goals from their opening eight league matches. But the Buddies are the league's lowest scorers.

While it's been a source of frustration, the manager knows how hard his team are working to rectify it and believes the players will be rewarded for their efforts.

Speaking to stmirren.com ahead of Saturday's match at home to St Johnstone, Goodwin said: "It's important that any team that comes to play us on our own patch realises that they are going to be in for a game.

"The only goal we've conceded at home in the league this season was against Rangers and it wasn't from open play.

"We've looked solid, we've looked organised and we've taken a lot of plaudits for that side of it.

"But the bit we can't get away from is the fact that we need to score goals.

"As much as we want to make our home ground a difficult place for the opposition we also want to make it an entertaining place for our own fans to come and we want to try and put a product on the park that is worthy of the fans turning out week after week to get behind the team.

"We're doing all we can to try and sort that side of the game but it's trying to find that balance between being a good, organised outfit and also being an attacking-minded, entertaining one as well.

"I can never question the players commitment or effort," he continued.

"They are a great bunch and brilliant to work with during the week. The boys are doing all they can to try and get that bit together in the final third. It just hasn't happened at the moment but I am very confident that it will turn. We've got to remain positive and continue to believe it will turn.

"I would be a lot more concerned if we weren't putting balls in good areas and weren't creating good chances.

"Even against Motherwell a few weeks ago at 1-0 in the second half we got in some really good positions and created some good opportunities and just unfortunately we've not been able to do the hard part and put the ball in the net."

Saints are back in action at the Simple Digital Arena on Saturday following the international break with St Johnstone the visitors to Paisley.

The Perth side sit at the foot of the table having failed to win in the league so far this season, but Goodwin is expecting a tough battle against Tommy Wright's side.

"It's going to be a really difficult game against St Johnstone who are a good side and it's a really important game for us," he said.

"Tommy Wright's teams are renowned for their organisation and their hard work and I expect nothing different at the weekend.

"I watched a few of their games back last week. Although they lost 1-0 at home to Motherwell recently I thought they deserved to win the game. They created more opportunities, had more shots on target and created the more clear cut chances on the day.

"I certainly believe there are things we can exploit in the St Johnstone defence but I think we need to be very wary of them in an attacking perspective as well. They have some really good attacking players, some very dangerous players and they've got good pace in the team as well.

"We will have to be as organised and as switched on as we have been defensively at home, but hopefully we can exploit the weaknesses that we think are there and use that to our advantage at the weekend."

Colts cup journey ends in Wrexham

Allan McManus’ young Saints team travelled to Wales to take on a Wrexham side who made 11 changes from their last outing.

Saints made three changes from the team that drew 2-2 with Motherwell in the SPFL Reserve League on Monday afternoon. Dean Lyness, Cammy MacPherson and Jay Henderson replaced Oan Djorkeaff and David Wilson who dropped out completely, while Kyle Girvan moved to the bench.

Saints took kick off and were on the front foot from the start and had a very good shout for a penalty when a nice interchange between Matty Grant and Henderson on the right saw Henderson’s cross hit the outstretched arm of Wrexham defender Chambers. But the ref waved away saints appeals.

Wrexham's first chance came in the seventh minute when a Bickerstaff back heel went harmlessly wide of the left hand post.

Two great blocks from Scott Glover then Nick McAllister respectively were sandwiched in-between a Saints counter attack in a frantic 14th minute.

Nice work between Finlay Gray and Josh Jack saw Saints win a corner in the 19th minute. The well worked corner found MacPherson whose shot deflected onto the post with the goalkeeper beaten.

Things started to heat up in the game in the 27th minute when an off the ball incident between McAllister and McIntosh resulted in a Buddies free-kick and a stern warning for both players. A minute later the ref reached into his pocket for the first time when a late tackle on Ethan Erhahon by Redmond saw the Wrexham man pick up a yellow card.

Saints forced two corners in quick succession. Jack brought out a smart save by Lainton as he held on low to his left, while the goalkeeper was called into action again soon after when Conor McBrearty forced a save at near post from 20 yards.

Cammy Breadner had a great chance that stung the palms of Lainton after midfielder Chalmers gave away possession on halfway. The winger had another opportunity soon after when picked the ball up and drove forward, but his shot from just outside the area never really troubled the Wrexham 'keeper.

The second half started in disastrous fashion for Saints. The home side pushed forward on the left and a cross found Redmond unmarked from 12 yards his shot was deflected under Lyness.

The next Wrexham attack came on 56 minutes and saw Ben Tollitt receive the ball on the left hand side of the penalty box. Tollitt was brought down by a challenge from MacPherson and the referee pointed to the spot. MacPherson went into the book for the foul and McIntosh dispatched the spot-kick neatly sending the keeper the wrong way.

Saints made their first substitution after 59 minutes with Lewis Jamieson coming on to replace Grant.

That paid off for the Buddies when, in the 68th minute, Jamieson done well to chase a McBrearty ball down the right hand side. He slipped the ball inside the defender to the onrushing Jay Henderson who finished the ball high beyond Lainton first time to half the home side's lead.

Saints pushed for the equaliser but were caught on the counter as Wrexham made it 3-1 with around 15 minutes remaining. The Red Dragons cleared a St Mirren corner and broke at speed with McIntosh grabbing his second, sliding the ball past Lyness from five yards to stretch their advantage.

To their credit, Allan McManus' side kept fighting with a Jamieson header flashing wide from a Henderson cross.

McIntosh was denied a hat-trick with less than 10 minutes to go when his acrobatic effort was ruled offside.

Tollitt put the game beyond any doubt as he scored in the 89th minute. He beat two defenders before slotting ball into the net from close range for the icing on the cake for Wrexham.

As much as they are disappointed Allan McManus, his team and backroom staff can all be proud of their achievements in this cup run.
