On Saturday (7th December), St Mirren make the short trip to Lanarkshire to face Hamilton Academical in a Ladbrokes Premiership match-up at the Fountain of Youth Stadium.

The referee on Saturday is Don Robertson and he will be assisted by David Doig and Paul O'Neill. The Fourth Official will be Kevin Graham.

Kyle Magennis has become the latest St Mirren Youth Academy graduate to reach 100 appearances for St Mirren after his start in last night’s Ladbrokes Premiership match against Motherwell.

The midfielder joins the likes of Jack Baird, Sean Kelly, Stevie Mallan, Marc McAusland, Stephen McGinn, Kenny McLean, Lewis Morgan and Jason Naismith as youth academy graduates to have made 100 or more appearances in the last decade.

Kyle, who has been with St Mirren since the age of five, made his Saints debut as an 18-year-old when he came on at half-time in a 2-0 defeat against Hibernian at Easter Road in October 2016. He then made his first St Mirren start at the Simple Digital Arena against Dumbarton the following month.  

All-in all Kyle made 32 appearances in the 2016/17 season as he helped Saints reach the IRN-BRU Cup final and complete their famous ‘great escape’ to avoid relegation to the third tier of Scottish football as well as being named as the club's Young Player of The Year.

After becoming a first-team regular for Saints, Kyle was dealt a blow during the 2017/18 pre-season when he suffered an injury in a friendly with Dundee in July that would rule him out for the first few months of the season. 

Kyle eventually made his return as a substitute in a 2-0 win away to Dumbarton before making his first start of the season a week later in a 0-0 draw away to Falkirk. The midfielder would make 29 appearances in what was a successful year for club and player as Saints won the Ladbrokes Championship and promotion back to the Premiership after a three-year absence, while Kyle was named as the club's Young Player of the Year for a second year in a row. 

Injury restricted Kyle to only 19 appearances last season, but he played his part in the club securing Premiership survival after returning for the run-in scoring against Motherwell and Hamilton after the split. 

With Stephen McGinn missing the start of the 2019/20 league season with injury, Kyle was given the captain’s armband and has made 20 appearances so far this season scoring once while also earning international recognition with call-ups to the Scotland U21 squad. 

A disappointed Jim Goodwin reflects on a tough 90 minutes as Saints lose 3-0 at home to Motherwell.

Saints got December off to the worst possible start as they were comfortably beaten by Motherwell at the Simple Digital Arena.

Five first half minutes decided the game in Motherwell's favour as James Scott bagged himself a brace. For his first, the young forward danced in from the edge of the box before firing across Vaclav Hladky into the far corner, following that up moments later by coolly lifting the ball over the Saints goalie after Liam Polworth had nicked it from Tony Andreu.

The second half was pretty much a non-event before any hope Saints had of clawing their way back into things disappeared when Allan Campbell tapped the ball home following a good run from Jermaine Hylton.

The first hint that a bad night may have been in store for the Buddies came inside the first 10 minutes when Gary MacKenzie had to go off injured. Paul McGinn replaced him in the heart of the defence with sub Cammy MacPherson coming on at right back. McGinn tried to make an impact at the other end but his overhead kick sailed well over. It was one of few early chances for either side, Ryan Flynn and Andreu seeing efforts blocked before Scott failed to trouble Hladky from distance.

That certainly wasn't the case just before the half hour mark. There appeared to be little danger when Scott picked up the ball at the side of the box but he dribbled his way into a shooting position and slotting a low shot past Hladky into the far corner. It was good work from the youngster but their hadn't appeared to be much resistance to his fancy footwork.

The lead was nearly wiped out a few minutes later, Kyle Magennis seeing his shot from the edge of the box deflected narrowly wide. Instead, the Steelmen doubled the advantage soon after. Polworth won the ball off Andreu in the middle of the park, appeals for a foul falling on deaf ears, and he fed Scott, who finished superbly past Hladky to put daylight between the sides.

The teenager wasn't finished there and almost bagged a quick-fire hat-trick when he got on the end of Liam Grimshaw's cross, his header going inches wide with Hladky beaten. Another shot from the same player was deflected wide with Saints struggling to cope, Liam Donnelly dragging an effort wide when he should at least have hit the target as the half came to a close.

Hladky easily saved Scott's early second half shot before Declan Gallagher headed Polworth's free-kick just wide, although the flag was up for offside. As with the first half, it was a scrappy affair with little of note until Motherwell put the game to bed, Hylton tormenting the home defence before squaring for Campbell to poke home his side's third with a quarter of the game still to go.

Devante Cole saw his effort cleared off the line by Ryan Flynn and Gallagher headed over from a corner as the visitors pushed for a fourth. A rare Buddies chance came when Junior Morias – who had replaced Jon Obika – worked himself some space before having a shot that went out for a throw in. Andreu was at least a bit closer when he had a go from the edge of the D but still failed to find the target.

Despite those chances, Motherwell still looked the more likely to score and sub Sherwin Seedorf was allowed to drive forward before lashing a shot over. Scott had a later chance to grab his hat-trick, once again cutting in from the touchline before firing wide. It took until the final minute for the Buddies to register a shot on target, Mark Gillespie easily saving from Kyle McAllister. He was in action again in stoppage time, doing well to turn away Andreu's shot after Morias had been unlucky to see his header come back off the post. It would be wrong to say that summed up Saints' night as, for once, they could have no complaints about being on the wrong end of the scoreline.

Saints sit in 11th place in the Ladbrokes Premiership following Saturday's 2-1 loss to Aberdeen at Pittodrie. 

Jim Goodwin's side put in a strong performance against the Dons and could have picked up a point if Tony Andreu had scored a late penalty

The Buddies, who have picked up 11 points this season - all of which have come at the Simple Digital Arena, have won two of their last three home matches, but just one out of the last six matches overall.

A win for Saints tonight could move them up to 7th in the league depending on how results go elsewhere.

Motherwell are fourth in the Ladbrokes Premiership with 25 points from their 15 league matches this season. 

They come into tonight's match off the back of their biggest league win since 2015 after defeating St Johnstone 4-0 at Fir Park on Saturday.

The Steelmen have won three and lost three of their last six matches beating St Johnstone (4-0), Livingston (2-1) & Kilmarnock (2-1), while losing to Hibernian (1-3), Celtic (0-2) & Rangers (1-2)

St Mirren have faced Motherwell once this season - losing 2-0 at Fir Park at the beginning of October.  

Motherwell also won on both their trips to Paisley last season winning 2-0 on Halloween 2018, before a 2-1 victory at the start of February 2019.

The Buddies last defeated Motherwell in December 2018 when Simeon Jackson's second-half goal was enough to give Saints a 1-0 win at Fir Park, while Saints' last home win against the Steelmen was May 2015 as goals from Jason Naismith and Stevie Mallan saw the Buddies run out 2-1 victors.

We are giving fans the opportunity to vote for the man of the match and also put two lucky fans in with the chance of winning a £10 voucher for the Club Shop.

Every home game we’ll throw open the voting on the 60 minute mark for 20 minutes where votes can be cast on Facebook and Twitter. All you have to do is use the hashtag #SMFCMOM followed by the name of the player you are voting for, eg '#SMFCMOM MAGENNIS'.

With 10 minutes of the game remaining all the votes will be counted then the Stadium Announcer will confirm the winning player over the tannoy system.

Jim Goodwin and his players will be at the stadium from 5:30pm-7pm on the 10th to sign calendars and meet supporters. 

Calendars, which are now available at the St Mirren club shop, can be purchased on the night or from the club shop prior to the signing.
