Matchday Competitions (29th Feb)

First Scorer Competition

Paisley Panda is pleased to confirm that 'First Scorer' will be back for the game on Saturday against Aberdeen.

'First Scorer' lets fans predict in advance of the game who they think will score St Mirren's first goal in Saturday's match against The Dons.

From all of those who guess correctly, a winner will be picked at random and they will win a box of a dozen doughnuts which will be delivered to their seat right after the goal is scored!

To enter all you have to do ahead of the game is post your prediction of the first St Mirren scorer on Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #Saints1stgoal.

The lucky winner will then be contacted to confirm which stand they will be in with the row and seat number so that the prize can be delivered to them.

Man of the Match Vote

We are giving fans the opportunity to vote for the man of the match and also put two lucky fans in with the chance of winning a £10 voucher for the Club Shop.

Every home game we’ll throw open the voting on the 60 minute mark for 20 minutes where votes can be cast on Facebook and Twitter. All you have to do is use the hashtag #SMFCMOM followed by the name of the player you are voting for, eg '#SMFCMOM DURMUS'.

With 10 minutes of the game remaining all the votes will be counted then the Stadium Announcer will confirm the winning player over the tannoy system.

From all the fans who nominate the winning player one will be picked at random from the Facebook account and another from the Twitter account and they will each be awarded a £10 voucher for the Club Shop. The winners will be notified through the account they posted from and they must collect their voucher immediately after the match.

So get yourself ready on the hour mark of Saturday's match and get voting with #SMFCMOM.

Visitor Information

  • Electronic Ticketing System

At the SMiSA Stadium we have an electronic ticketing system in place at the turnstiles.

The process of using the system is fairly straight-forward and easy to use:

    • On entering the turnstile you will see the ticket reader.
    • Place your match ticket (with the barcode or QR code facing upwards) or smartcard – into the aperture
    • Once the ticket/smartcard is accepted into the system the green light will illuminate and an audio alert will sound after which you should hear the turnstile being unlocked
    • Push the turnstile gate and enter the stadium as you normally would.

The whole process will only take a few seconds.

Please note that there will be stewards in attendance to help where required.

  • Street Parking on Matchday

The Club has been made aware of problems occasioned by inconsiderate parking in the area of Tannahill Road.

Seemingly supporters are parking despite the presence of double yellow lines and as a consequence local bus routes are also being blocked because streets in this area are narrow and fans are parking on both sides. People, many of whom are elderly, are having to walk from Greenhill Road to their homes because buses can’t get access.

Residents who have cars parked in driveways are experiencing similar difficulties getting their vehicles in and out. On being approached by local residents some supporters have been somewhat aggressive which could lead to confrontation.

St Mirren Football Club strives to be a good neighbour and we would ask that ALL supporters attending the stadium not only park in accordance with local parking restrictions but also give consideration to the needs of local residents by parking sensibly so as not to occasion an unnecessary obstruction.

  • Picking Up & Dropping Off by Car on Match Day

We are also aware of problems with patrons parking at the front of the Main Stand to pick up disabled supporters at the end of the game. This area is a 'no parking' zone on match days (with cones on the road) and has to be kept clear for emergency access. It is an inappropriate location for disabled spectator uplifts, as not only does it cause an obstruction on the road, it also causes a danger to pedestrians leaving the stadium.

Please note that the designated pick-up/drop off points are either in Drums Avenue or the two lay-byes on Ferguslie Park Avenue.

  • Finding the SMiSA Stadium

  • Getting to the SMiSA Stadium

At the interchange take the first left onto a dual carriageway with some football parks on the left hand side. Follow this road and after a sharp right hand bend you should now be in Greenock Road. Then take your first right on to Clark Street and drive to the end of the street which is the junction with Greenhill Road, turn left and you will see the stadium on the opposite side of the road.

From there you can get train to Paisley St James or if you prefer to walk the following routes are advised by the police:

Match Report: Motherwell 1-2 St Mirren

St Mirren struck late through Ilkay Durmus to grab an important three points in the Ladbrokes Premiership as the Buddies came from behind to defeat Motherwell at Fir Park.

Liam Donnelly opened the scoring early on from the penalty spot, but second-half goals from Jon Obika and Durmus saw the Saints take all three points back to Paisley.

The home side started the brighter with on-loan winger Rolando Aarons caused the Buddies problems down the right side. Aarons had the first real opportunity of the match when he smashed wide after finding space inside the box on seven minutes.

And it was the winger's trickery that would see Motherwell win a penalty on 12 minutes after being was brought down by Akin Famewo inside the area after trying to break clear. Referee David Munro pointed to the spot and Liam Donnelly, who missed during last week's penalty shoot-out, made no mistake from 12 yards to give the home side the lead.

Saints almost found an instant response less than two minutes later. Good work from Jamie McGrath in the midfield saw the Irishman switch it wide to Durmus. The left-winger burst into the Motherwell area and fizzed a powerful, dipping drive just inches over the bar.

Vaclav Hladky was called into action on 18 minutes as he made a brilliant double save to keep the scoreline down. Motherwell were awarded a free-kick on the right hand touchline after Calum Waters was booked for a foul on Aarons. 'Well swung the ball into the back post where it met the head of Declan Gallagher with Hladky down low to push away. The danger wasn't cleared though allowing Tony Watt an opportunity with the Czech goalkeeper blocking from close range.

A couple of dangerous looking balls across the box from Durmus caused panic inside the Motherwell box and yielded a couple of corners but the Saints failed to capitalise from any of them.

It was still the home side who were creating more clear cut chances in the first-half with Hladky having to do well to save from Watt, before a long-range Liam Polworth drive looked like it may have nestled in the back of the net after a wicked deflection.

A disappointing first-half came to a close with Motherwell only having one goal to show for their efforts.

Saints showed more intent after the break and found themselves level on 50 minutes. Lee Hodson did brilliantly well on the right-hand side to turn the Motherwell defence inside out before sending a tremendous low ball across the face of goal where Obika finished from close range.

The Buddies almost doubled their lead a few minutes later with Motherwell goalkeeper Mark Gillespie making a terrific diving save to claw away Durmus' low drive from 20 yards.

For all the opportunities Motherwell created in the first 45 minutes, they failed to create anything to really trouble Hladky in the second-half with only a Watt header with less than 10 minutes to go forcing the goalkeeper to make a save and even then it was straight at him.

With 87 minutes on the clock Saints would finish a winner with Durmus showing great composure to put St Mirren into the lead. Substitute Tony Andreu swung the ball into the box where it drifted to the left side to meet an unmarked Durmus. The Turkish winger took a touch to steady himself before slamming high into the top corner to send the 600 strong travelling support wild.

Junior Morias could have added the icing on the cake in the dying embers as he shot wide from 15 yards, but in the end it didn't matter as Durmus' strike sealed a first league win of 2020 for Jim Goodwin's men who closed the gap on ninth placed Ross County to four points.

Reaction: Jim Goodwin Post-Motherwell

A delighted Jim Goodwin gives his reaction as St Mirren strike late to defeat Motherwell 2-1 and pick up three important Ladbrokes Premiership points.

Match Preview: Motherwell v St Mirren (25th February)

St Mirren travel to Fir Park for our rearranged Ladbrokes Premiership match that was originally scheduled to take place on Saturday 15th February.

FORM

St Mirren - WLDDDD

Motherwell - DLLDLL

St Mirren head to Fir Park a week on from their Scottish Cup Fifth Round replay win against Motherwell.

The Buddies travelled through to Fir Park last Tuesday with a place in the last eight of the competition up for grabs. Jim Goodwin's men raced into an incredible 4-1 lead at half-time thanks to a double from Jon Obika, an own goal from Peter Hartley and a strike from Sam Foley. But Motherwell fought back in the second-half with goals from Tony Watt, Rolando Aarons and Allan Campbell taking the match to extra-time and penalties.

Saints came out on top in the shoot-out with Jamie McGrath, Kyle McAllister and Obika scoring to give the Buddies a 3-2 win after Liam Donnelly, Watt and Jermaine Hylton had missed for the home side.

Due to the postponement of tonight's original fixture, along with the postponement of Friday night's scheduled match against Hearts, Saints haven't been in Ladbrokes Premiership action since a 2-1 loss away to Livingston almost two weeks ago.

Motherwell come into tonight's match having drawn 0-0 with Hamilton Academical in the Lanarkshire derby on Saturday.

Despite a run of seven games without a win, Stephen Robinson's side currently sit in third place in the Ladbrokes Premiership and could open up a four point gap on fourth placed Aberdeen with a win tonight.

Motherwell will also be looking to win at Fir Park for the first time since December 7th 2019 when they defeated Hearts 1-0 in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

PREVIOUS

Saints meet Motherwell for the fifth, and likely final, time this season.

Motherwell have beaten the Buddies in the two league matches between the sides this season.

Goals from James Scott and Chris Long gave the Steelmen a 2-0 victory at Fir Park in October, while Scott, who left Motherwell to join Hull City in January, netted again in December - scoring twice in a 3-0 win for Stephen Robinson's side at the Simple Digital Arena.

The two have met twice in 2020 - both in the Scottish Cup. The first was at the start of the month when Motherwell were the visitors to the Simple Digital Arena. Chris Long fired the Steelmen into a first-half lead, but Saints hit back in the second-half through Alex Jakubiak to force a replay.

The Buddies then came out on top and booked their place in the quarter-finals following a dramatic 120 minutes plus penalties.

St Mirren's last league win over Motherwell was at Fir Park in December 2018 when Simeon Jackson scored the only goal in a 1-0 win for Saints.

TEAM NEWS

Gary MacKenzie, Kyle Magennis, Stephen McGinn and Ryan Flynn all remain out for Saints.

Chris Long will miss out for Motherwell having been shown a red card in their draw with Hamilton on Saturday.

MANAGER'S THOUGHTS

"We've analysed last week's game and there are plenty of positives we can take from the first-half.

"Of course there are things we can do better based on things that happened in the second-half.

"We'll setup the way we did in the first-half, try and get a foothold in the game early on and hopefully get our noses in front again.

"Hopefully it's as entertaining a game as last week was and we can give a good account of ourselves.

"If we put in a performance similar to that of the first-half then we give ourselves a great chance of picking up maximum points."
