St Mirren FC Accessibility Review

St Mirren Football Club has conducted an initial review of its accessibility policies and practices and wishes to communicate with supporters regarding future actions.

Following internal operational meetings in recognition of the importance of ensuring our supporters are included in policy creation, the club has engaged with a local independent disability charity – the multi-award winning I Am Me Scotland – www.iammescotland.co.uk. I Am Me is an organisation that began in Paisley in 2012, achieving charity status in 2015. It aims to promote equality and diversity by raising awareness of disability and tackling disability hate crimes. I Am Me has since gone on to develop many innovative initiatives, including the recently launched Disability Friendly initiative, which is a network of organisations across Scotland who aim to support disabled people to feel valued and included within their communities.

The club has met with representatives from the charity to discuss the potential for the club to become the first registered Disability Friendly club in Scotland.  As part of this discussion, I Am Me agreed to oversee the delivery of an independent accessibility review, which will look at all aspects of the club accessibility, including access, ticketing, facilities and support, ensuring that supporters and staff have the opportunity to be involved in the review.

The I Am Me team will initially use the ‘Help a Buddie’ tickets to undertake a mystery shopper exercise at the upcoming home fixture against Dundee. A group of people selected from I Am Me will attend. The individuals selected have varying disabilities and accessibility requirements, allowing them to understand a matchday experience from an independent point of view. Feedback from this exercise will be collated and help inform proposals/recommendations put forward to the review panel.

The I Am Me team will also run two in-person workshops conducted at the stadium, for supporters, these will be followed by a feedback session, ensuring participating supporters are included in the whole process. The workshops will be open to all supporters to apply and attend through an Eventbrite invite process, restricted to 30 attendees per session. As part of the information gathering process, we will also be distributing an online survey to the wider fanbase to get as many views as possible on accessibility across the club. To access the survey please click HERE.

The workshops, surveys and mystery shopping exercise will take an overall look at accessibility within the club, which will include access to the grounds, ticketing procedures and complete match day experience.

The aim is to create a well-rounded approach to reviewing the clubs accessibility processes and further identify other areas of improvement to allow supporters who have a disability, or additional support requirement, a more comfortable and inclusive approach to attending matches at The SMiSA Stadium. It is hoped that a full accessibility review will also provide opportunities for St Mirren to lead on inclusion and become a club that others seek to benchmark against.

An internal review panel will consider the recommendations from the workshops and the stakeholder survey. The panel will consist of representatives from the club, as well as SMiSA, the SLOs, St Mirren Disabled Supporters Association and other relevant external stakeholders. It will be chaired by an independent trustee of I Am Me Scotland.

The review findings will be used to draft a policy which will then be presented to the club board at the November board meeting for final review and sign off, with the aim to share with fans ahead of the launch of half season tickets.

Once the review has been completed, I Am Me Scotland will provide disability training for all operational staff and the club will be recognised as a Disability Friendly partner.

St Mirren Chief Operating Officer Keith Lasley said: "We received important feedback from supporters over the summer surrounding our wheelchair, ambulant disabled supporters' and carer tickets.

"As a fan-owned club, we appreciate the importance of measured feedback and took seriously any concerns that supporters may have had.

"We have worked closely with I Am Me to understand issues surrounding accessibility at St Mirren and are pleased to confirm the creation of our accessibility review that will help shape best-in-class practices going forward.

"We want to enhance the matchday experience for all connected with St Mirren and ensure that everyone is welcome."

Form

Saints drew their third William Hill Premiership match in a row when Miguel Freckleton's first Saints goal helped the Buddies to a 1-1 draw away to Hibernian. That followed a 1-1 draw with Rangers and a 0-0 stalemate against Motherwell at The SMiSA Stadium.

The Buddies sit a point behind Falkirk in the William Hill Premiership after the Bairns won their first top-flight match in 15 years prior to the international break. Kyrell Wilson's goal saw John McGlynn's side defeat Aberdeen 1-0 at Pittodrie.

Saturday's visit to the Falkirk Stadium will be Saints' first since April 2018. With the Championship already won, the Buddies closed out season 2017/18 with a 1-0 defeat to the Bairns following a late goal from Ryan Blair. Our last win against the Bairns came at the beginning of our Championship winning season with Stelios Demetriou, Cammy Smith and Gavin Reilly scoring for Saints in a 3-1 win at The SMiSA Stadium.

Dan Nlundulu raring to go after deadline day move

New signing Dan Nlundulu is raring to go after putting pen to paper on a one-year deal at the Buddies.

The 26-year-old was our final signing of the summer as he completed his move after leaving English League One Bolton just before the window slammed shut on deadline day.

Now he’s keen to show what he’s about and experience a new challenge in Scotland.

Speaking to stmirren.com, Dan said: "I'm really excited, excited to play in the SPFL.

"There are a lot of good teams here, so it's a new challenge for me and I'm looking forward to it.

"I think it's a great platform for me to come in and show what I can do. I'm just excited to get that opportunity and show the fans what I can do. I'm a powerful player with the ball, strong hold-up play and can score goals. That's what the gaffer brought me to do and I hope to do that.

"The gaffer is a great guy," he continued as he reflected on his first impressions of Stephen Robinson.

He’s got a lot of enthusiasm which I need as a player. He's very encouraging, but he also sets standards, so I'm looking forward to it. For me, I think it's going to be a great challenge."

Dan Nlundulu

Dan comes into a close-knit dressing room and he was keen to stress the importance of that togetherness that he’s felt immediately since joining.

They've made me feel so welcome," he said.

"I've got a few friends that play in the SPFL as well and they've told me about the togetherness that they have as a group. That’s really important because I'm big on my teammates. To have a good performance, you need your teammates.

"They've make me feel welcome and I just can't wait to get on the pitch with them and kick on."

The forward got to know ex-Saints Ethan Erhahon and Richard Taylor - both of whom signed for Bolton during the summer. He chatted with the pair ahead of his move and said they were equally positive about St Mirren.

"I spoke to Ethan [Erhahon] and I spoke to Richard [Taylor]. I got on FaceTime to them.

They told me how good a club this is and it's a great platform for me to come and show what I can do. Clearly, they've shown what they can do here and I'm looking to do the same thing.

"We had really good chats and now I'm just ready to get on the grass. I genuinely can't wait. Different country, different league, a strong league, so I'm looking forward to this.

"Fitness-wise, I'm feeling good. I've only got maybe two or three 90 minutes, so I think I need to get going a little bit fitness-wise and the gaffer has let me know that. I'm in good nick and I'm fit. That's the most important thing."

St Mirren B share the points as late penalty grabs deserved draw at Annan

St Mirren B picked up a point in the League Phase of the KDM Evolution Trophy after a 2-2 draw against Annan Athletic.

Jalmaro Calvin gave the Young Saints a deserved first-half lead before Aidan Smith levelled for the Galabankies from the penalty spot a little after the hour mark. A late Charlie Maxwell header looked to have given the hosts all three points, but the Buddies battled back with Struan Thompson scoring a penalty in injury-time to ensure a share of the spoils.

Saints came into the match on the back of a 3-2 win over Alloa Athletic on matchday two. It was Calvin, the match winner that evening, who gave Peter Hartley's side the lead this afternoon on 20 minutes when he turned home from inside the six-yard area to make it two in two in the KDM Evolution Trophy.

Jalmaro Calvin opens scoring

The Buddies were almost pegged back immediately with goalkeeper Grant Tamosevicius making a wonderful save to deny Maxwell an equaliser just two minutes later.

Calvin had the chance to double his and the Buddies' tally on 37 minutes. The Jamaican forward's trickery saw him twist and turn beyond ex-Saint Josh Todd inside the box, but fired a right-footed effort just over from the angle.

Josh Farquhar missed an opportunity to extend our lead early in the second-half when he headed Thomas Falconer's cross over. It was a brilliant ball in and found Farquhar unmarked, but the youngster just put too much on it as it sailed over the bar.

The home side would draw level on 64 minutes when Smith converted from the penalty spot. The winger was fouled by Saints substitute Flynn O'Brien and he tucked away from 12 yards to restore parity.

The Buddies would have to weather a bit of a storm from the hosts after the leveller, but could have found themselves back ahead when Jack Lavery found Calvin in space inside the Annan box. The forward looked primed to net his second of the afternoon only for an Annan defender to somehow block on the line after the goalkeeper had been beaten.

Annan would go ahead with just four minutes of normal time remaining. Ryan Muir's cross found Maxwell sneaking in at the far post and he headed into the net with what looked like a winner.

The Young Saints, who demonstrated great resilient in the last matchday, would do so again when they equalised in injury-time. Substitute Jack Barr was fouled and that gave Thompson the chance to level. He duly despatched from 12 yards to make it 2-2 and add another point in the league phase of the challenge cup.

St Mirren saddened by passing of Jimmy Bone

St Mirren Football Club is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Jimmy Bone at the age of 75.

After a career that saw him turn out at the likes of Partick Thistle, Norwich City, Sheffield United, Celtic and Arbroath, Jimmy joined Saints in 1978. Appointed club captain by Jim Clunie, Jimmy was part of the side that won the Anglo-Scottish Cup in 1980 and made 174 appearances before departing for Hong Kong in 1982.

Jimmy returned to the club in a coaching capacity in December 1986, joining up as Alex Smith’s assistant manager as the pair helped lead Saints to Scottish Cup glory in 1987.

He would return to the club again in 1992, this time as manager, where he would take charge of 182 games before leaving in 1996.

In 2017, Jimmy was inducted into the St Mirren Hall of Fame for his contributions to the club as player, coach and manager.

The thoughts of everyone at St Mirren are with Jimmy’s loved ones at this sad time.

Forward Dan Nlundulu joins on deadline day

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce the deadline day signing of Dan Nlundulu.

The forward joins Saints on a one-year deal subject to international clearance from English League One side Bolton Wanderers.

The 26-year-old began his career at Southampton where he would make 16 appearances, 13 of which came in the English Premier League. Dan would have loan spells at Lincoln City, Cheltenham Town and Bolton Wanderers before signing for the Trotters on a permanent basis in June 2023.

The striker spent last season on loan at Cambridge Town where made 30 appearances in English League One, scoring five goals.

Speaking to stmirren.com, manager Stephen Robinson said: "Dan is someone we’ve looked at before when he was at Southampton.

He’s quick, strong, has a real ability and has become available at the last minute. We believe he gives us another strong option in the attacking area. He gives us that pace and strength that we perhaps lost when Toyosi Olusanya left.

"We’ve high hopes for him," the manager continued. "We need to keep him fit. He’s got a lot of talent but he’s had a couple of injuries, which he’s now over. He’s someone we are really looking forward to working with and getting the best out of him.

"It’s typical of our signings; players that have real talent but have maybe lost their way a little. We know he’s a really good player and he’ll be a really effective player for us going forward."

Oisin Smyth joins Partick Thistle on loan

St Mirren Football Club can confirm that Oisin Smyth has joined Partick Thistle on loan until the end of the season.

The Northern Irish midfielder joined St Mirren from English outfit Oxford United last summer and has gone on to make 30 appearances for the Buddies, scoring four goals.

Oisin now links up with the William Hill Championship side for the remainder of 2025/26 with Saints retaining the option to recall in January.

Manager Stephen Robinson said: "We feel that Oisin going to play games at Partick at a really good level, with really good people that we know well, will help Oisin come on leaps and bounds.

"He's not really played 30 games a season and when he does that we feel we'll have a very good player ready to come back and play in our first-team.

"He's worked with Ian Baraclough at U21 level [Northern Ireland] so we believe it's a really good loan move for club and player."

Everyone at St Mirren wishes Oisin well during his time with the Jags.

Another point for Stephen Robinson's men after draw at Easter Road

St Mirren picked up another point in the William Hill Premiership following a 1-1 draw away to Hibernian.

Miguel Freckleton's first Saints goal gave us the lead just after the hour mark. But Hibs drew level nine minutes later to take a share of the spoils heading into the international break. It means Saints are unbeaten in their last four matches and have only lost one of their last 15 in all competitions.

St Mirren named an unchanged team for the third straight game with Jonah Ayunga fit to start despite missing a large portion of training this week. The hosts made five changes after their UEFA Conference League exit to Legia Warsaw on Thursday night. Warren O’Hora, Jordan Obita, Josh Mulligan, Jamie McGrath and the in-form Kieron Bowie made way for Grant Hanley, Miguel Chaiwa, Jack Iredale, Thibault Klidje and Junior Hoilett.

After an impressive season from Hibernian last year, St Mirren were the only Premiership side that they could not break down, with the Buddies winning the only match played between the two at Easter Road last season 2-1 thanks to a Conor McMenamin brace.

Saints form against the Hibees has been strong over the past two seasons with the Buddies having only lost one of their last eight encounters with Hibernian, winning three of their previous four visits at Easter Road.

It was St Mirren who started the brighter of the two with Ayunga combining with Jayden Richardson. This created a great chance for Ayunga whose low shot was pushed wide by Jordan Smith in the Hibernian net.

The hosts responded quickly, as Hoilett has his effort smash off the crossbar from less than 10 yards out. This should have given Hibs the lead, with Martin Boyle firing the rebound over the bar.

Hibs started to take control of the game. Nicky Cadden fizzed in a corner from the left hand side that was met by Boyle. His low driven shot was straight into the grasp of George.

The pressure from the hosts kept pilling up and it was yet again Nicky Cadden creating another glorious chance. His cross was beautifully whipped in from the right hand side. Bushiri’s header was well defended by Freckleton to go out for a goal kick.

St Mirren came back down the other end to relieve some pressure. After the ball bouncing around Ayunga and Mandron, Ayunga struck the ball over the bar from 25 yards out.

Veteran Hoilett nearly rolled back the years with a bit of magic. An in-swinging corner nearly found its way straight into the net, but George was alert and pushed it over.

Having already gone down in the 15th minute, Phillips was substituted off half way through the first-half for Richard King.

Dylan Levitt put a ball over the top that Boyle chased down. He got goal side of Freckleton and just when it looked like he had a clear shot at goal, Freckleton made a brilliant recovery block from behind.

Both teams started off the second-half with some slack and sloppy passes. This then lead to the first booking off the day, which came for Hibs after a late challenge on Keanu Baccus from Chaiwa on 57 minutes.

It wasn’t long after that before St Mirren took the lead. Declan John with an excellent delivery from the left-hand side was met in the middle of the box by Freckleton. It will not be the prettiest goal that he ever scores, but neither he nor his team will care too much. There was then a lengthy VAR check for a possible offside, but the goal stood and Freckleton got his first goal for the Saints.

Miguel Freckleton

Hibernian responded with a triple substitution with Bowie, Mulligan and McGrath replacing Boyle, Chris Cadden and Hoilett.

Nicky Cadden was proving to be a handful, as yet another cross was met by Bushiri but again, the Hibs defender was unable to find the back of the net.

St Mirren had a great chance to go two up on 66 minutes. Mark O’Hara put in a low cross from the left-hand side, it was met by Mandron, who couldn’t get the ball past Smith.

The hosts were pushing and got their equalizer just 10 minutes after falling behind. McGrath this time with the cross, was flicked on by Klidje and Bushiri finally put one in the back of the net to get his fourth goal of the season.

The crosses kept coming and Nicky Cadden was yet again the architect. Cadden whipped in another beauty of a cross. This time it hit of Mulligan and went straight at George.

The Buddies were close to taking the lead just 10 minutes before the end. A ball over the top found Richardson and he chipped Smith, who was in no mans land. Scotland international Grant Hanley was able to read the danger and clear the ball off the line.

Both teams then made substitutes with Mooney coming on for Ayunga for St Mirren and Obita replacing Iredale for the hosts.

Mulligan saw his shot lash wide left of George’s goal just before added time. Gogic was the booked after taking out Bowie in the lead up of a Hibs counter attack.

The referee then blew for full time but that was not the end of the match. There was a lengthy VAR check for a potential handball in the St Mirren box. The decision was no penalty and that was followed by a chorus of boos from the home fans.

St Mirren go into the international break just the two points behind Hibs, who remain in third.
