Introducing Goals for Growth in conjunction with Park Mains High School

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to introduce our new 'Goals for Growth' programme in conjunction with Park Mains High School.

Goals for Growth is an exciting collaboration between St Mirren FC and Park Mains High School in Erskine that's aimed at helping first year pupils with the transition from Primary School.

Sessions are led by St Mirren Youth Academy coach Will Ferguson, Park Mains Physical Education and Health & Wellbeing Principal teacher Colin Chambers and PE teacher Niall Stevenson. The pilot programme, which has been underway at the school in Erskine since the 2025/26 term began in August, aims to help develop young people academically as well as in sport.

St Mirren Chief Operating Officer Keith Lasley said: "Goals for Growth is a programme that's been in the planning for a long time.

We're delighted it's kicked off this academic year and it's a partnership like we've set out in the club strategy. It's not just about the on the park, and the results and the performance side of the club, but about our community impact and tying in with local institutions, schools and universities. This is another part of that and it's an exciting part.

"The programme itself is about implementing some of our methodologies from our Academy and then tying that in with the academic programme that Park Mains have to provide a programme that can help as an opportunity for growth for these young people, both as people and in the sporting sense.

"We considered a number of high schools in the Renfrewshire area, but Park Mains fit for a few reasons in terms of its facilities and the enthusiasm of the staff to get it up and running and wanting to be part of it. That was why we felt this was the right place to start it off, but it is a programme that we want to expand.

We want St Mirren's footprint to be felt across the whole of Paisley and Renfrewshire and we feel as if this is a good first step in that strategy."

Colin Chambers, Principal Teacher of Physical Education at Park Mains, said: "Goals for Growth was an idea that we jointly generated a couple of years ago when we got together with St Mirren to devise a programme that would help support some of our young people as they transition into secondary school.

It's really a character development programme. Something that we're really high on in the school at the moment is developing a young person holistically. So it is a football programme, but predominantly it's about developing some of the characteristics that we would like to see in young people in general.

"It ties in with what they're doing at St Mirren Academy in terms of developing those five Cs, the programme that they have there in terms of commitment, control of emotions, confidence, the communication side of things, and all of those aspects that would really develop young people into someone that we would be proud of as they progress through the school."

Saints go into Saturday's match on the back of a last-gasp defeat at home to Aberdeen on Saturday. An injury-time goal from Marko Lazetic saw Aberdeen win 1-0 against 10-men Buddies at The SMiSA Stadium. That was a second loss on the bounce for Saints after a defeat to Kilmarnock before the international break. Prior to that, Stephen Robinson's side had won in league matches against Dundee (1-0) and Falkirk (2-1).

Dundee United sit in fourth place in the William Hill Premiership with 10 points, one more than Saints, from eight matches. Jim Goodwin's men picked up a point last weekend after a 2-2 draw with Rangers at Ibrox. After falling behind, second-half goals from Kristijan Trapanovski and Craig Sibbald put Jim Goodwin's side ahead before a late equaliser from the hosts saw it end level in Glasgow. That point came off the back of a 1-1 draw with Livingston and a 2-0 defeat to Kilmarnock, both at home. Their last win came last month when they defeated Aberdeen 2-0 at Tannadice.

Saints were victorious on our last trip to Tannadice with Mikael Mandron and Jonah Ayunga scoring in a 2-0 win back in May.

10-man Saints suffer late defeat

A dramatic day in Paisley saw Saints suffer late agony as they were beaten 1-0 by Aberdeen.

Saints threatened in the opening seconds, Keanu Baccus' shot being blocked by the legs of Dons keeper Dimitar Mitov, Killian Phillips heading over towards the end of the half.

As the hour mark approached, Alex Gogic thought he'd marked his 150th Saints appearance with a goal only for VAR to eventually rule his header out for a foul in the build-up. The visitors should have been in front soon after but Shamal George saved Stuart Armstrong's effort and Alexander Jensen couldn't find the net from the rebound.

VAR was involved gain late on, with Saints' Jayden Richardson being sent off against his old club for violent conduct after being initially booked in the aftermath of being fouled by Ante Palaversa. It looked as if Saints would hold on for a point but deep into the seven minutes of added time, Marko Lazetic produced a moment of magic to fire Aberdeen to their first league win in Paisley since 2018.

It was a much changed Saints side, with Mark O'Hara and Marcus Fraser returning from injury and Keanu Baccus also back in the team, Dan Nlundulu making his first start up front. Shamal George had recovered enough from illness to start in goal with Richard King, Liam Donnelly, Roland Idowu and Jonah Ayunga dropping to the bench. Aberdeen made just one change to the side which hammered Dundee before the international break, Gavin Molloy replacing the injured Emmanuel Gyamfi.

Saints made a flying start and could have been ahead after a couple of minutes, Mikael Mandron heading Mark O'Hara's cross down for Keanu Baccus but Dimitar Mitov blocked the shot with his legs. Aberdeen responded quickly, Ail Aouchiche firing just over, as the game began at a frantic pace.

It was end to end stuff but chances were at a premium - Mitov saving easily from Mandron as Saints tried to hit the visitors on the break before Shamal George gathered Nicky Devlin's effort. As half-time neared, a well worked free-kick routine from Saints ended with the unchallenged Phillips heading over against his former club.

Jesper Karlsson should have done better than curl a shot over the bar at the end of some nice Aberdeen play early in the second half. A few minutes later Saints thought they'd taken the lead, some tremendous skill from Baccus winning him the space to float in a cross for Alex Gogic to nod home. However, no goal is ever certain these days and, after a delay, ref Lloyd Wilson was called to the monitor and ruled the goal out. It initially seemed to have been ruled out for offside although the suggestion later was Mitov had been fouled by Dan Nlundulu.

Alex Gogic had a goal disallowed

That decision seemed to fire Saints up but Aberdeen should have taken the lead soon after, George producing a great save to deny Stuart Armstrong before Alexander Jensen somehow failed to hit the target with the rebound. As the game entered the last 10 minutes, Jayden Richardson tried to burst down the right and was pulled back by Ante Palaversa. Like a cartoon fight, limbs seemed to go everywhere after that as both players went flying and were booked for their troubles, Armstrong also cautioned for his involvement in the scuffle that followed. For the second time in the afternoon, VAR intervened and Richardson got the worst kind of upgrade as his yellow become a red for violent conduct, George being booked for dissent into the bargain.

The man advantage and seven minutes of added time created the perfect scenario for Aberdeen to end their Paisley hoodoo. Saints were able to see out the first six minutes of stoppage time before Marko Lazetic got the better of his man at the byline and fired a shot across George into the far corner to give the visitors all three points.

Visitor Information

  • Electronic Ticketing System

At the SMiSA Stadium we have an electronic ticketing system in place at the turnstiles.

The process of using the system is fairly straight-forward and easy to use:

    • On entering the turnstile you will see the ticket reader.
    • Place your match ticket (with the barcode or QR code facing upwards) or smartcard – into the aperture
    • Once the ticket/smartcard is accepted into the system the green light will illuminate and an audio alert will sound after which you should hear the turnstile being unlocked
    • Push the turnstile gate and enter the stadium as you normally would.

The whole process will only take a few seconds.

Please note that there will be stewards in attendance to help where required.

  • Street Parking on Matchday

The Club has been made aware of problems occasioned by inconsiderate parking in the area of Tannahill Road.

Seemingly supporters are parking despite the presence of double yellow lines and as a consequence local bus routes are also being blocked because streets in this area are narrow and fans are parking on both sides. People, many of whom are elderly, are having to walk from Greenhill Road to their homes because buses can’t get access.

Residents who have cars parked in driveways are experiencing similar difficulties getting their vehicles in and out. On being approached by local residents some supporters have been somewhat aggressive which could lead to confrontation.

St Mirren Football Club strives to be a good neighbour and we would ask that ALL supporters attending the stadium not only park in accordance with local parking restrictions but also give consideration to the needs of local residents by parking sensibly so as not to occasion an unnecessary obstruction.

  • Picking Up & Dropping Off by Car on Match Day

We are also aware of problems with patrons parking at the front of the Main Stand to pick up disabled supporters at the end of the game. This area is a 'no parking' zone on match days (with cones on the road) and has to be kept clear for emergency access. It is an inappropriate location for disabled spectator uplifts, as not only does it cause an obstruction on the road, it also causes a danger to pedestrians leaving the stadium.

Please note that the designated pick-up/drop off points are either in Drums Avenue or the two lay-byes on Ferguslie Park Avenue.

  • Finding the SMiSA Stadium

  • Getting to the SMiSA Stadium

    BY ROAD

Follow signs for Paisley & Glasgow Airport. Exit the M8 at Junction 29 (St James’ Interchange) which is just after Glasgow Airport turn off if travelling east to west. Be careful not to exit on to the A737 which is signposted for Irvine. It is best to stay in the middle lane when passing the Airport as this leads naturally to the St James’ Interchange exit.

At the interchange take the first left onto a dual carriageway with some football parks on the left hand side. Follow this road and after a sharp right hand bend you should now be in Greenock Road. Then take your first right on to Clark Street and drive to the end of the street which is the junction with Greenhill Road, turn left and you will see the stadium on the opposite side of the road.

    BY RAIL

Get train from Paisley Gilmour Street to Paisley St James – exit from the station is straight onto Greenhill Road where the stadium is facing you. To plan your journey by rail with Scotrail please click HERE.

    BY BUS

Most buses will stop at Paisley Cross or Mill Street, from both you will see the Paisley Town Hall. From the Town Hall cross the High Street towards the Piazza Shopping Centre, when acoss walk towards the town centre until you come to Gilmour Street. Turn right on to Gilmour Street and walk towards the railway station which is about 150 yards away. From there you can get train to Paisley St James or if you prefer to walk the following routes are advised by the police:

Home fans: cross road to the left on to St James Street – follow through up Underwood Road then turn right at Greenhill Road where stadium is 200 yards further along the road. Access to the Main Stand is from Greenhill Road and the South and West Stands will be accessed from Drums Avenue.

Away fans: cross road to Love Street continue up the street till you come to Albion Street where you will turn left. Follow Albion Street until you come to the junction with Greenock Road where you will turn right. Cross the road then walk about 200 yards before taking your first left on to Clark Street. Walk straight up Clark Street to the end of the street which is the junction with Greenhill Road, turn left and you will see the the stadium on the opposite side of the road. Access to the North Stand will be from Ferguslie Park Avenue.

Together We Win // Show Racism The Red Card

St Mirren FC Shows its Support for Show Racism The Red Card

St Mirren Football Club is proudly continuing its support for Show Racism the Red Card during our match against Aberdeen on Saturday 18th October 2025. Show Racism the Red Card is the UK’s leading anti-racism education charity, working within schools, workplaces, sports, and community organisations to educate and challenge behaviours and attitudes that have no place in a modern Scotland. Using the power of football is a powerful tool to initiate conversations about anti-racism and our club has supported their messages of tolerance and inclusion for many, many years and will continue to do so. Now more than ever, the importance of active anti-racism cannot be overstated.

Billy Singh, Campaign Manager from Show Racism the Red Card in Scotland had this to say: "Football has always been more than a game. It brings people together across communities, cities, and nations. In Scotland, our clubs and our supporters have a proud tradition of passion, loyalty, and pride. But football also has a responsibility: to stand firmly against racism and discrimination, both on and off the pitch."

Recent events show that prejudice and division remain present in society. When voices seek to divide us, football must provide the opposite example – one of unity, respect, and solidarity. The message from our game should be clear: there is no place for racism in our stadiums, in our communities, or in our country.

Show Racism the Red Card exists because education and action are vital. Campaigns like ours provide young people and adults with the tools to recognise racism, challenge it, and replace it with understanding. Football clubs are uniquely placed to spread this message, reaching thousands every week through matches, community programmes, and role models on the pitch.

We are asking supporters not only to reject racist language and behaviour, but to be active anti-racists. That means speaking out when something is wrong, supporting those targeted by abuse, and showing that the true spirit of football is inclusive. Silence allows prejudice to grow; action and solidarity stop it in its tracks.

Scottish football is enriched by players and coaches from across the world and fans cheer those players. This diversity is not a threat – it is one of the game’s greatest strengths. The range of nationalities on the pitch reflects the reality of modern Scotland: a nation shaped by contributions from people of many backgrounds.

When we stand together in our stadiums, we show what community really means. 'Together We Are Stronger' is more than a slogan – it is a truth that runs through football. Racism weakens us all, but unity makes us powerful.

So this matchday, and every day, let’s make sure that our game is welcoming for everyone. Raise your voice, challenge racism, and show that football fans in Scotland are united.

A 2-0 loss at Kilmarnock prior to the international break was just Saints' second loss of the season. First-half goals from David Watson and Marcus Dackers saw Killie take the three points and leapfrog Saints in the William Hill Premiership.

The Buddies sit in fifth place in the league after picking up nine points from our opening seven matches. The Buddies are unbeaten at home having beaten Dundee 1-0 in our last match at The SMiSA Stadium, as well as drawing with Motherwell (0-0) and Rangers (1-1) in August. Stephen Robinson's side are unbeaten at home in the William Hill Premiership since the beginning of March.

Aberdeen picked up their first league win of the season before the break after a resounding 4-0 victory over Dundee at Pittodrie. The Dons remain at the foot of the table, but victory moved them to within two points of Dundee who sit in 11th place.

Saints have won the previous three meetings between the two sides. A Mikael Mandron strike was enough to secure a 1-0 victory for the Buddies when the sides last met at The SMiSA Stadium in May. The forward also scored a double in our 3-0 win at Pittodrie in January. Toyosi Olusanya and Richard Taylor were on the scoresheet last November when Saints inflicted a first league defeat of the season on Jimmy Thelin's men on a wintry day in Paisley.
