Three points for Saints as unbeaten run extended to seven games

St Mirren made it two wins from two in the William Hill Premiership and extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to seven matches.

Killian Phillips' first-half goal was the difference as Stephen Robinson's men moved into third place in the William Hill Premiership.

The manager was forced into two changes from the side that defeated Kilmarnock on penalties in the Premier Sports Cup last week. Captain Mark O'Hara and Keanu Baccus missed out with injury so Liam Donnelly came in for his first Saints start, while Roland Idowu was in from the beginning.

The day started with a minute's applause to pay our respects to Saints legend Jimmy Bone who sadly passed away at the age of 75 earlier this month.

A scrappy start at the rain-soaked SMiSA Stadium saw the Buddies with the majority of possession in the opening stages but they only had a long-range strike from Idowu that flew over to show for it.

Drey Wright forced a good save from Shamal George on 18 minutes with a fierce strike from the edge of the area that was pushed wide by the Saints stopper.

Alex Gogic, who had taken the captain's armband, had the Buddies' best early opportunity on 22 minutes. Killian Phillips' throw-in bobbed about before falling to Idowu who forced it back to Gogic on the edge of the area. The Cypriot defender got a lot of power behind the effort, but Dundee goalkeeper Jon McCracken was able to hold the low shot.

Saints started to take more of a grip on the match and came close to finding the opener twice inside the space of a minute. Jonah Ayunga forced a good save from McCracken who was at full-stretch to turn away the forward's shot from 20 yards. A minute later, Ayunga again got in behind the Dee defence. This time he rolled it back to Idowu who curled agonisingly wide of the far post from the edge of the box.

The deadlock was broken six minutes before the break with Killian Phillips netting his fifth goal of the season. The Irishman was on hand to turn home from six yards as he got the final touch on Mandron's strike to score his first league goal of 2025/26.

There was little to report in the opening 15 minutes after the restart. Ethan Hamilton's vicious strike was  However, Saints could have added a second just after the hour mark when a good switch from Freckleton found Richardson down the right-hand side. The wing-back played a dangerous low ball across the face, but no one in black and white could get on the end of it.

The manager made his first change of the game on 68 minutes when Saints youth academy graduate Fraser Taylor was introduced in place of Donnelly. That was followed by the double substitution of Conor McMenamin and Dan Nlundulu who replaced Idowu and Ayunga on 75 minutes.

The game was fizzling out, but with 1-0 a precarious lead Saints were searching for a second to kill it off and nearly did so heading into stoppage time. Phillips stole the ball off a Dundee defender deep in the Dee half and drove forward before cracking a shot just wide of the mark from 20 yards. Dundee would try to force pressure with some late corners, but the Saints defence stood strong to ensure a clean sheet and three points.

Stephen Robinson has named his starting line-up for this afternoon's William Hill Premiership fixture against Dundee.

Alex Gogic takes the captain's armband this afternoon with both O'Hara and vice captain Marcus Fraser unavailable.

Supporter Information

A minute's applause will take place prior to kick-off as we pay our respects to St Mirren Hall of Fame inductee Jimmy Bone who sadly passed away earlier this month. Jimmy was part of the side that won the Anglo-Scottish Cup in 1980 and made 174 appearances for the Saints as well as spells as assistant manager and manager.

Supporters travelling to the match should be aware of ongoing major bridge refurbishment on the M8 at Junction 26 (Hillington Interchange) causing delays. As always, please plan your journey accordingly.

We're bringing some magic to The Tony Fitzpatrick Family Stand with a magician and face painters before kick-off. We'll also have our #Saints1stGoal, Bung a Baw and Spot the Ball challenges too!

Visitor Information

  • Electronic Ticketing System

At the SMiSA Stadium we have an electronic ticketing system in place at the turnstiles.

The process of using the system is fairly straight-forward and easy to use:

    • On entering the turnstile you will see the ticket reader.
    • Place your match ticket (with the barcode or QR code facing upwards) or smartcard – into the aperture
    • Once the ticket/smartcard is accepted into the system the green light will illuminate and an audio alert will sound after which you should hear the turnstile being unlocked
    • Push the turnstile gate and enter the stadium as you normally would.

The whole process will only take a few seconds.

Please note that there will be stewards in attendance to help where required.

  • Street Parking on Matchday

The Club has been made aware of problems occasioned by inconsiderate parking in the area of Tannahill Road.

Seemingly supporters are parking despite the presence of double yellow lines and as a consequence local bus routes are also being blocked because streets in this area are narrow and fans are parking on both sides. People, many of whom are elderly, are having to walk from Greenhill Road to their homes because buses can’t get access.

Residents who have cars parked in driveways are experiencing similar difficulties getting their vehicles in and out. On being approached by local residents some supporters have been somewhat aggressive which could lead to confrontation.

St Mirren Football Club strives to be a good neighbour and we would ask that ALL supporters attending the stadium not only park in accordance with local parking restrictions but also give consideration to the needs of local residents by parking sensibly so as not to occasion an unnecessary obstruction.

  • Picking Up & Dropping Off by Car on Match Day

We are also aware of problems with patrons parking at the front of the Main Stand to pick up disabled supporters at the end of the game. This area is a 'no parking' zone on match days (with cones on the road) and has to be kept clear for emergency access. It is an inappropriate location for disabled spectator uplifts, as not only does it cause an obstruction on the road, it also causes a danger to pedestrians leaving the stadium.

Please note that the designated pick-up/drop off points are either in Drums Avenue or the two lay-byes on Ferguslie Park Avenue.

  • Finding the SMiSA Stadium

  • Getting to the SMiSA Stadium

Form

Saints have lost just one in 17 matches since the last time the two sides met back in April. That single defeat was a 1-0 loss to Celtic at Celtic Park on the opening day of the season.

Stephen Robinson's men secured their place in the semi-finals of the Premier Sports Cup after a penalty shoot-out victory over Kilmarnock last Friday. Mikael Mandron scored his sixth goal of the season to put us ahead before Robbie Deas levelled for Killie. A stunning strike from Jayden Richardson put us 2-1 ahead, but a Bruce Anderson penalty took us to extra-time and penalties. Five perfect penalties from Saints, coupled with a Shamal George save from Kyle Magennis saw the Buddies progress to the last four.

Saints picked up their first league victory of the season on matchday five with goals from Declan John and Mandron in a 2-1 win away to Falkirk.

Dundee secured their first win in the William Hill Premiership this season with a victory over Livingston at Dens Park last weekend. Steven Pressley's men went into a 2-0 lead against the Lions, but were pegged back late in the second-half. With the score poised at 2-2, Dundee were awarded a penalty deep in stoppage time which Callum Jones converted to move the Dee level on points with Saints heading into Saturday's fixture. Dundee have won one, drawn three and lost two of their six William Hill Premiership matches this season.

Dundee were unbeaten in three matches against the Saints last season, winning 2-0 at Dens Park when the sides last met in April with Simon Murray scoring a brace. Murray also scored a double when Dundee won 2-1 at The SMiSA Stadium in December.

The Officials

Matthew MacDermid is the man in the middle for Saturday's fixture. Calum Scott is the VAR.

St Mirren B beaten by Hamilton despite spirited second-half showing

St Mirren B were beaten by Hamilton Academical in the KDM Evolution Trophy with a spirited second-half performance not enough to rescue anything after falling 3-0 behind in the first-half.

Kevin O'Hara's 17th minute goal was followed up by a quickfire Oli Shaw double to put the hosts into a commanding lead in the opening half. Jack Lavery pulled one back as the Young Saints gave a good account of themselves second-half.

O'Hara had the first opportunity for Hamilton Accies when he intercepted goalkeeper Charlie Innes' pass on 11 minutes and tried to force home at the near post, but shot into the side net. The forward would give the hosts the lead after a neat interchange with Shaw saw him fire home from 15 yards.

Evan Mooney forced a good save from Accies goalkeeper Michael Marks 10 minutes after the opener with a powerful strike from the edge of the area as Saints searched for an equaliser.

Accies would take complete control of the game with just under 10 minutes of the first-half remaining when Shaw netted twice in the space of a minute. The forward first tucked home Alexander Hutton's cross from close-range on 34 minutes. He added his second and Accies' third less than 60 seconds later when he got in behind the Saints defence to race on to a ball over the top. Saints goalkeeper Innes raced off his line with Shaw lifting the ball over him around 25 yards from goal before running on to the ball and knocking into the empty net.

The Buddies were much stronger in the second 45 and managed to pull a goal back on 63 minutes. Jack Lavery's powerful strike managed to find its way over the line despite a strong hand from Marks as he attempted to keep the ball out of the net.

Shaw had the ball in the net for the hosts on 69 minutes when he turned home a low cross from O'Hara, but the linesman's flag denied the striker his hat-trick

Luke Douglas twice forced saves from Marks in the final stages as Saints looked to reduce the deficit further, but the Accies stopper saved well to ensure his side saw the match out to pick up three points.

I Am Me Scotland Accessibility Workshops

As part of our initial review into our accessibility policies and practices, St Mirren FC, in partnership with the multi-award winning I Am Me Scotland, is running two accessibility workshops at The SMiSA Stadium.

The I Am Me team will run two in-person workshops conducted at the stadium for supporters. These will be followed by a feedback session, ensuring participating supporters are included in the whole process. The workshops will be open to all supporters to apply and attend through an Eventbrite invite process, restricted to 30 attendees per session. The interactive workshops are focused on making our club more accessible for all attendees.

As part of the information gathering process, we are also distributing an online survey to the wider fanbase to get as many views as possible on accessibility across the club. To access the survey please click HERE. The workshops and surveys will take an overall look at accessibility within the club, which will include access to the grounds, ticketing procedures and complete match day experience.

The aim is to create a well-rounded approach to reviewing the clubs accessibility processes and further identify other areas of improvement to allow supporters who have a disability, or additional support requirement, a more comfortable and inclusive approach to attending matches at The SMiSA Stadium.

It is hoped that a full accessibility review will also provide opportunities for St Mirren to lead on inclusion and become a club that others seek to benchmark against.
