Statement from Chairman, John Needham

On behalf of myself and my fellow directors, I want to thank you all for your incredible support throughout what has been a memorable season for our football club. I also wish to praise manager Stephen Robinson, all his staff and the players for making this a season to remember.

We made the decision to retain The Tony Fitzpatrick Family Stand at the start of the season for #OurFamily for all HOME matches and it was a decision that paid dividends as we finally achieved our long-stated ambition of finishing in the top six and remain in with a chance of a place in Europe.

You’ve backed us in tremendous numbers with record season ticket sales (3,800) as well as more than 110,000 spectators visiting the SMiSA Stadium in 2022/23 – a new record at Greenhill Road. We’ve also achieved our highest average attendances at the SMiSA Stadium with an average of 6,287 per match and sold out for just the third time ever at this stadium.

We watched on with pride as Keanu Baccus became the first ever St Mirren player to play at the World Cup where he faced off against eventual winner Lionel Messi in the knockout rounds. Alex Greive also wrote his name into the history books by becoming the most capped international player while at St Mirren.

We’ve shown our community spirit with the successes of our 'Help a Buddie' scheme and our school ticket initiatives and we’ll continue to look after our community with these and more schemes next season.

There have been challenges as well, but with your unwavering support, we have made significant progress and achieved so many great things together this season. Without you, #OurFamily, none of this is possible and we are immensely grateful for that loyalty. We hope this season acts as a platform for even greater success next season.

With inflation currently running at over 10% we have taken the decision to limit the increase in Season Ticket prices for 2023/24 to c.5%.

It’s important to note that we remain one of the lowest priced season tickets in the Scottish Premiership. For example, an early bird adult ticket in the Main or West Stand costs just £18.40 per match based on 19 home league matches, while an early bird adult ticket in the Tony Fitzpatrick Family Stand works out at just £16.80 per match. Concessions are only £12.40 per match in the Main and West Stand and just £7.60 per match in the Tony Fitzpatrick Family Stand. Added to that, our family ticket provides amazing value, working out at just £31 per family of five on early bird. We are keen to be as inclusive as possible and feel this is a really cost effective option for a family day out. Fans in the Tony Fitzpatrick Family Stand will now have all home games included in their Season Ticket price following the successful decision to retain three stands for home fans at all fixtures.

I hope you’ll agree that we have struck the right balance in terms of limiting the price increase whilst we try to cover our increased costs.

There will be a three-week loyalty period to retain your seats and we have compiled all the detailed information you’ll need ahead of season tickets going on sale, this will be provided to you when the tickets go on sale, on Monday 22nd May.

Given the team’s success on the park this season we hope to break even more records in terms of Season Ticket sales for 2023/24 so I urge you to sign up as soon as you can and help us smash the 4,000 sales target we’ve set.

Once again, to #OurFamily, I want to say thank you for your continued support. Let’s build on the success of this season. Together we are determined to give you a football club you can be proud of.

Stephen Robinson praise for players after point at Celtic Park

"I thought the boys were terrific. It's credit to every single player on the pitch."

The manager gives his reaction to today's 2-2 draw at Celtic Park.

Main at the double as Saints pick up a point at Celtic Park

St Mirren picked up what could prove to be a valuable point as a Curtis Main double saw us draw 2-2 at Celtic Park.

The striker's first-half double had us ahead at the break, but a late equaliser from Celtic captain Callum McGregor saw the Scottish Premiership Champions rescue a point.

There were two changes to the side that drew with Hearts at The SMiSA Stadium last weekend. Thierry Small and Keanu Baccus came in for Scott Tanser and the injured Alex Greive. The manager elected for the same shape despite the absence of Greive and that saw Greg Kiltie pushed up alongside Main as the front two.

Saints got off to the perfect start to silence the capacity crowd at Celtic Park. Anthony Ralston collided with Tomoki Iwata which allowed Main to run on to a long kick from Trevor Carson. The striker broke into the box and took a touch to cut inside of Ralston who was trying to recover before firing into the net to put us ahead on just four minutes.

Celtic equalised 10 minutes after the opener though when Reo Hatate threaded a ball through for Kyogo Furuhashi who rifled high into the net to make it 1-1.

Saints' reaction was good and the Buddies looked to restore the advantage almost immediately with Main firing over the bar from 20 yards.

The home side were seeing more of the ball as you would expect and Carson was was forced into a smart stop on 19 minutes when he pushed away Matt O'Riley's low shot before Hatate sent a swerving effort over the bar from distance two minutes later.

St Mirren - as they have done on many occasion this season - were making life difficult for the hosts and forced a couple of corners in quick succession just after the half-hour mark. Richard Taylor didn't get the connection he'd have hoped for after being first on to a Kiltie header which allowed Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart to gather.

The hosts almost took the lead in fortuitous fashion on 35 minutes when O'Riley's effort deflected off Baccus and nearly sneaked in at the near post. Carson was down quickly to block.

But it was Saints who would go back ahead when Main grabbed his second of the afternoon on 39 minutes. Celtic couldn't deal with the initial danger and Main was there to meet O'Hara's header back into the box. A lengthy VAR check for offside ensued, but the forward was played onside by McGregor. That goal came just a minute after Saints should have retaken the lead when Ryan Strain knocked wide from just a few yards after being first on to a parry from Hart.

The Buddies took a lead into half-time and started the second-half quickly with Main agonisingly close to his hat-trick just a few minutes after the restart. He rose the highest to meet a Strain cross, but nodded inches wide of target. The striker then had another good opportunity for his - and Saints' - third just before the hour mark when he once again was first to a Strain ball from the right only to head over this time.

Celtic almost levelled with 20 minutes of the game remaining when a deep cross from Ralston met Daizen Maeda at the back post. It looked like the Celtic forward was going to sweep into the net, but he miscued and stuck the effort wide.

Saints again came so close to killing the match on 79 minutes when Main pounced on Iwata's mistake and drove into the box. The forward had a go from the angle and his effort cannoned off the far post.

And how frustrating that would prove to be when Celtic equalised on 81 minutes. McGregor's strike from 20 yards found its way into the bottom left corner to restore parity and rescue a point for the hosts.

Up Next: Celtic v St Mirren (20th May)

St Mirren make the short journey through to Glasgow to face Celtic in cinch Premiership action on Saturday.

It's Saints' second to last away match of the 2022/23 season with a top five finish still within reach as the Buddies sit three points off fifth place Hibernian and four points from fourth placed Hearts. The Buddies were left gutted last weekend after an injury-time equaliser saw Saints draw 2-2 with Hearts at the SMiSA Stadium, but a top five finish remains a possibility.

Celtic suffered just their second domestic defeat of the season last weekend as they fell to a 3-0 defeat to rivals Rangers at Ibrox. Ange Postecoglou's side were crowned Champions the week before after a 2-0 win against Hearts at Tynecastle in the first match after the split.

Previous

St Mirren are one of only two sides to have defeated Celtic in the cinch Premiership this season having beaten Ange Postecoglou's men 2-0 in September. Mark O'Hara and Jonah Ayunga scored the goals as we secured our first home league win against the Hoops since 2010.

Celtic have won the other three meetings between the two this season, but despite emphatic sounding scorelines (0-4, 1-5, 1-5) Saints made life difficult for the Hoops.

Saints were also the last side to defeat Celtic at Celtic Park in domestic action going back to January 2021 when Kristian Dennis and Ilkay Durmus scored in a 2-1 victory.
