St Mirren have been drawn at home to Motherwell in the second round of the Viaplay Cup.

Stephen Robinson's men progressed to the last 16 after winning Group H - wrapping up top spot with an emphatic 4-0 win against Forfar Athletic on Saturday.

Full ticketing arrangements will be announced in due course.

Manager praise after Saints top Group H

I thought we were very good."

Stephen Robinson gives his reaction after today's 4-0 win against Forfar Athletic saw us top Group H.

First-half goal show sees Saints top Group H

St Mirren finished top of Group H and qualified for the next round of the Viaplay Cup with a first-half blitz of Forfar Athletic at The SMiSA Stadium.

Mikael Mandron scored two goals in five early first-half minutes before Mark O'Hara and Alex Gogic added to the score in the final minutes of the half to put Stephen Robinson's men in the hat for tomorrow's last 16 draw.

Conor McMenamin made his first start at The SMiSA Stadium as he returned from injury in place of injured Charles Dunne, while Mark O'Hara returned from suspension in place of Caolan Boyd-Munce as the manager made two changes from Tuesday night's win at Cowdenbeath.

Saints hit the front on 14 minutes when Mandron was in ahead of a ruck of bodies to bullet home Ryan Strain's corner on 14 minutes.

The Frenchman scored his second of the afternoon five minutes later after a lovely bit of football from the Buddies. Strain's wonderful flick saw him burst away from a Forfar player before a neat interchange with McMenamin allowed the Australian to lay the ball on a plate for Mandron to knock into the net from six yards out.

Strain almost turned goalscorer a few minutes later after a mazy run gave him the chance to poke just wide of the target.

Forfar tested Zach Hemming for the first time on 22 minutes after winning a free-kick on the edge of the Saints area. Josh Skelly took it but the Saints goalkeeper got two hands behind it to push away.

But it was Saints who were in control and Keanu Baccus came close to adding a third when he volleyed inches wide on 33 minutes. The Australian midfielder won a penalty kick after being fouled in the box in the final few minutes of the first-half. Captain Mark O'Hara stepped up and the skipper sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 3-0.

There was time for one more before the interval when Gogic forced home from close range in the final act of the first 45. A corner deep into the box was met by Scott Tanser who headed back across goal with Gogic getting in ahead of the Forfar defence to net.

Manager Stephen Robinson made three changes at half-time with James Bolton on for his debut in place of Gogic, while Lewis Jamieson and Toyosi Olusanya replaced Stav Nahmani and Mandron.

The Buddies could have added a fifth just four minutes into the second-half when Lewis Jamieson broke forward at speed and found McMenamin in acres of space. The Northern Irishman took a touch, but had his low shot saved by Marc McCallum who was out quickly to block.

Jamieson should have scored his first Saints goal with a little over 20 minutes of the match remaining. Tanser's cross from the left found the forward in plenty of space, but he headed wide from close range.

Four first-half goals were enough for the hosts as we go into tomorrow's last 16 draw.

Charles Dunne and Greg Kiltie injury update

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson confirmed that Charles Dunne will miss the start of the cinch Premiership season, but the defender's injury isn't as bad as first feared.

The 30-year-old defender limped off with a calf injury on Tuesday's night's 1-0 win over Cowdenbeath. A scan this week revealed that Charles will be out of action for around about three weeks - a similar time frame to Keanu Baccus who returned to the squad on Tuesday after his own calf injury.

The manager told the press this morning: "He is not as bad as we first feared, we are looking probably about three weeks with Charles."

"It is obviously a blow for us – but not as bad as we thought it was going to be.

He has had a scan, he will be a similar time frame as Keanu (Baccus) so hopefully three weeks and he will be back available again."

It's better news for Greg Kilite who is set to start back training next week after coming off in last weekend's 4-0 win against Arbroath.

The Saints midfield man took a knock on his ankle, but is expected to join back in with the group on Monday.

Visitor Information

  • Electronic Ticketing System

At the SMiSA Stadium we have an electronic ticketing system in place at the turnstiles.

The process of using the system is fairly straight-forward and easy to use:

    • On entering the turnstile you will see the ticket reader.
    • Place your match ticket (with the barcode or QR code facing upwards) or smartcard – into the aperture
    • Once the ticket/smartcard is accepted into the system the green light will illuminate and an audio alert will sound after which you should hear the turnstile being unlocked
    • Push the turnstile gate and enter the stadium as you normally would.

The whole process will only take a few seconds.

Please note that there will be stewards in attendance to help where required.

  • Street Parking on Matchday

The Club has been made aware of problems occasioned by inconsiderate parking in the area of Tannahill Road.

Seemingly supporters are parking despite the presence of double yellow lines and as a consequence local bus routes are also being blocked because streets in this area are narrow and fans are parking on both sides. People, many of whom are elderly, are having to walk from Greenhill Road to their homes because buses can’t get access.

Residents who have cars parked in driveways are experiencing similar difficulties getting their vehicles in and out. On being approached by local residents some supporters have been somewhat aggressive which could lead to confrontation.

St Mirren Football Club strives to be a good neighbour and we would ask that ALL supporters attending the stadium not only park in accordance with local parking restrictions but also give consideration to the needs of local residents by parking sensibly so as not to occasion an unnecessary obstruction.

  • Picking Up & Dropping Off by Car on Match Day

We are also aware of problems with patrons parking at the front of the Main Stand to pick up disabled supporters at the end of the game. This area is a 'no parking' zone on match days (with cones on the road) and has to be kept clear for emergency access. It is an inappropriate location for disabled spectator uplifts, as not only does it cause an obstruction on the road, it also causes a danger to pedestrians leaving the stadium.

Please note that the designated pick-up/drop off points are either in Drums Avenue or the two lay-byes on Ferguslie Park Avenue.

James Bolton joins St Mirren on one-year deal

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of defender James Bolton on a one-year deal subject to clearance.

The 28-year-old Englishman joins Saints following the expiry of his contact at English League One champions Plymouth Argyle following Declan Gallagher's move to Dundee United for a conditional fee.

The centre-half, who can play at right-back, began his professional career at Macclesfield Town and had spells at Halifax, Gateshead, Shrewsbury and Portsmouth before joining Argyle in 2021.

Speaking to stmirren.com after signing, James said: "It feels brilliant.

It's all happened quite quick but I'm really excited to be here and excited for the challenge.

"I had a good discussion with the manager on the phone and he really welcomed me here. I'm just trying to relish the challenge.

"I'll give 100%. I think that something that is has nothing to do with ability and just a willingness to win. On the pitch, I feel like I am quite calm on the ball and will put my head in there. I'm looking forward to it.

"I know St Mirren did well last season finishing top six and it's just about progressing from there and keep pushing on.

"I spoke to Greg Docherty and he loves Scottish football and said the Scottish Premiership is very good and everyone I've spoken to can't speak highly enough of it."

Manager Stephen Robinson added: "James is a versatile player that I've known from down in England in his time at Shrewsbury, Portsmouth and Plymouth.

He'll bring a vast amount of experience and he's a very good defender.

"He gives us another option in there and adds to our numbers with Declan leaving. This was the reason we allowed this to happen because we knew we had someone else coming in.

"We need to get him up to speed, but he's a fit boy. It's another quality player in the building who will bring more experience into the dressing room and most of all he's a very good defender."
