St Mirren Football Club is proudly continuing their support of Show Racism the Red Card’s Match Actions Campaign during our match against Hearts at Tynecastle Park on Saturday 19th October.

Show Racism the Red Card is the UK’s leading anti-racism Education Charity, working within schools, workplaces, sports, and community organisations to educate children, young people, and adults on challenging prejudice and stereotypes. Using the power of football is a powerful tool to initiate conversations about anti-racism and our club has supported their messages of tolerance and inclusion for many years. Now more than ever, the importance of active anti-racism cannot be overstated.

Across Scottish football, clubs will show their commitment to anti-racism over one weekend – Friday 18th, Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October. This weekend also coincides with Show Racism the Red Card’s UK-wide annual fundraising drive, Wear Red Day, taking place on Friday 18th. On this day, individuals and groups up and down the country are encouraged to wear red and donate to show their support for the campaign and its message.

Billy Singh, Campaign Manager from Show Racism the Red Card in Scotland had this to say: "We are delighted once again that Scottish football is supporting our much-needed anti-racist message.

"With the recent race riots in England and the continued demonisation of migrant communities across the UK we all have a collective responsibility to challenge all acts of racism not only within football but in our communities, workplaces and social spaces. In our schools we have, on average, 50 recorded racist incidents a week and on our streets there are on average 9 recorded racist incidents a day. Thankfully in Scotland we did not have the race riots that they had in England but there are people in our communities that want to divide us. 

Football fans can be a force for good and by being active anti-racists we can change hearts, minds and lives. Please continue to support our campaign."

St Mirren captain Mark O'Hara added: "Let's take a stand against prejudice and intolerance. Be active and stand with us. Don't let the racists win."

Football is a sport that is loved across the world and football matches should be an enjoyable experience for everyone, of all backgrounds. Education is the key and since our formation in 1996 Show Racism the Red Card has engaged with over one million learners.

St Mirren U18s will once again play at The SMiSA Stadium when they face Caledonian Braves in the Scottish Youth Cup on Monday 21st October.

The Young Saints progressed to the third round following a 5-1 win over Alloa Athletic at our home last month. 

The match kicks-off at 7:30pm on Monday and entry is once again FREE! 

Entry will be via gate M1 with only the Main Stand open on the night. Turnstiles will open at 7pm.

St Mirren return from the international break with a trip to Tynecastle where we face Hearts in the William Hill Premiership.

The Buddies were edged out 1-0 by Dundee United at The SMiSA Stadium in our last match before the break. Despite that defeat, Saints remain in sixth place in the William Hill Premiership having picked up eight points from our first eight league matches.

The Opposition

Hearts have this week appointed Neil Critchley as their new Head Coach following the dismissal of Steven Naismith last month. The Englishman will take charge of the Jam Tarts for the first time this weekend when Saints head to Tynecastle. 

St Mirren and Hearts have already met in the William Hill Premiership this season, with the Buddies winning 2-1 at The SMiSA Stadium last month. Toyosi Olusanya scored the winner for Saints after Craig Halkett had cancelled out an early own goal from Gerald Taylor. 

The Edinburgh side sit at the bottom of the league having picked up just two points from their first eight William Hill Premiership matches. An opening day 0-0 draw with Rangers at Tynecastle gave cause for optimism, but a run of eight straight defeats in all competitions, culminating in their 2-1 loss to Saints, saw Steven Naismith removed from his position as Head Coach.

Hearts picked up their first win of the season away to Dinamo Minsk in the UEFA Conference League just before the international break, an injury-time Yan Dhanda goal giving them a 2-1 victory. That was followed up by a narrow 3-2 defeat against Aberdeen at Pittodrie in the William Hill Premiership.

St Mirren Women host Kilwinning FA Ladies at The SMiSA Stadium this Sunday (20th October) in Barclays Scottish Women's League One.

Kate Cooper's side go into Sunday's match on the back of an impressive 4-1 win away to Inverurie Loco Works Ladies which made it six wins out of seven in SWF League One this season.

In October 2023, St Mirren Football Club selected Home-Start Renfrewshire and Inverclyde as its strategic charity partner with our vision to place people and the local community at the centre of decision-making aligning with the ethos Home-Start Renfrewshire and Inverclyde also lives by.

Your overwhelming Home-Start support saw 180 children and 50 parents receive Christmas gifts after donations before our home match against Ross County in the William Hill Premiership last December. 

In November, Home-Start Renfrewshire and Inverclyde will be hosting their first large scale event, held this year in Inverclyde and they want to reach as many people as possible. The event takes place at Greenock Town Hall on Friday 15th November. Home-Start Renfrewshire and Inverclyde are an award winning, recognised trusted partner in the local communities we serve and have been providing support to families in Renfrewshire for over 22 years.

Former St Mirren player David Winnie, who was part of our 1987 Scottish Cup winning side and made 196 appearances across two spells at the Saints, is a Partner and Head of Sports and Immigration at Gilson Gray. He visited The SMiSA Stadium to meet St Mirren Chief Operating Officer Keith Lasley upon completion of the partnership. 

Speaking on the deal, Keith said: "We are pleased to have finalised our agreement with Gilson Gray. 

Their expertise will help supplement the hard work already undertaken by our talented staff team and we thank them for their support of the club."

Manager Stephen Robinson gave an insight into the club's development structures following the appointment of Peter Hartley.

In this interview, the manager talked about Peter's role as Head of First Team Transition and Loan Pathways, having succession plans in place, the two tiers of producing players, players out on loan and the U18s. 

Tickets for our William Hill Premiership match away to Hearts on Saturday 19th October have now sold out. 

Season ticket holders had until until 2pm on Wednesday 25th September to buy tickets with remaining general sale tickets becoming available at 10am on Friday 27th September. 

Tickets that were purchased online for collection MUST be collected from the St Mirren Ticket Office by 12 noon on Friday 18th October 2024.

There will be no sales or collection on the day at Tynecastle.
