St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Malik Dijksteel from Cork City for an undisclosed fee subject to international clearance.
The 24-year-old had recently signed a pre-contract agreement that would have seen him join Saints in January following the expiry of his contract at Cork. However, the club has moved to bring Malik to The SMiSA Stadium early on a contract until summer 2028.
The Dutch winger, who came through the academy at Feyenoord where he played alongside the likes of Jurrien Timber and Joshua Zirkzee, has made 11 appearances for Cork this season, scoring one goal.
After completing his move, Malik told stmirren.com: "I’m delighted.
"It’s good that I can join now and have a full season here. It allows me to get to know the manager and get to know how he works.
"The manager said he wants me to be me and be the player that I am. He wants me to beat players, excite the fans and work hard. That’s what you want to hear as a winger.
I got to do my first session today. It’s a good squad and everyone is very welcoming. The quality in the group is very good as well.
"I’ve watched some of the games on TV. You don’t know until you’re in it yourself, but it looks like a good level and I’m looking forward to it."
Manager Stephen Robinson said: "We’re really pleased.
Malik will add another bit of creativity and pace into the team. We think he’ll be a really exciting signing.
"He’s been playing football so we’re hoping he’s not too far off. He’ll certainly add real competition in those forward areas."
