St Mirren head to Northern Ireland and Spain for pre-season

St Mirren will head to Northern Ireland and Spain as part of pre-season preparations for the 2019/20 season.

Saints will face Belfast club Rosario YFC at Ulidia Playing Fields on the Ormeau Road for a 7pm kick-off on Friday, June 28 as part of our new partnership with the group.

The Buddies will then face Oran Kearney's ex-side Coleraine at The Showgrounds on Saturday, June 29 as part of the deal that brought the manager to St Mirren last season. That match will kick-off at 2pm.

Saints then head to Murcia, Spain on Monday 1st July for a week-long training camp at the Pinatar Arena Football Centre with our partners inspiresport.

Upon return from Spain, Oran Kearney's side will face Stenhousemuir at Ochilview Park on Tuesday 9th July with a 7:30pm kick-off ahead of our Betfred Cup opening match at home to Dunfermline on Sunday 14th July.

Jed McCabe of inspiresport said: "I am delighted to have introduced Rosario YFC to St Mirren as I see so many similarities between the two.

"I'm also delighted to be working with St Mirren to take them away to the magnificent Pinatar Arena in Murcia as part of their pre-season preparations."

St Mirren agree partnership with Belfast Football Club Rosario

St Mirren Football Club have struck up an agreement with one of Northern Ireland’s largest football clubs, Rosario YFC, which will see the Belfast club hosting a senior match between the two clubs at Ulidia Playing Fields on the Ormeau Road as part of a gala event on 28 June.

Rosario has been a fixture in the Ballynafeigh area of south Belfast for over a century, with over 900 players now being fielded across 50 teams. The new arrangements with St Mirren FC and recent move back into Ulidia mark the next phase of their development.

St Mirren Chief Executive Tony Fitzpatrick said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for our club to have a new partnership with Rosario YFC as like ourselves they work in conjunction with the local community.

"We have welcomed some of their teams over to our Gold Award Academy for a train and play programme recently. We are absolutely delighted to be invited to play in this match. Who knows maybe one day a youth player from Rosario YFC will play for our first team."

Rosario YFC Chair Ciara Boyes said: "Rosario Football Club has been at the heart of the community on the Ormeau Road for generations, and welcomes members from many different backgrounds and nationalities, reflecting this wonderful multicultural area of Belfast.

"The partnership with St Mirren comes shortly after we moved back into the recently-renovated Ulidia Playing Fields, as we take this hugely successful club to the next level, and the friendly between the two clubs will celebrate this."

Earlier this season Rosario YFC entered into discussions with St Mirren which were facilitated by Jed McCabe from sports tour providers inspiresport.

Jed McCabe from inspiresport said: "I am delighted to have introduced Rosario YFC to St. Mirren FC as I see so many similarities between the two. They are both very family orientated and give young players their chance in the game. We offer development tours to some of the world’s top clubs and I can honestly say St. Mirren FC are up there with the very best."

The partnership between the two clubs will benefit both, with Rosario’s coaching programme being boosted by top level coaching sessions at the St Mirren FC Academy, involving organised trips for all age groups to visit the Gold Award Academy at St Mirren FC, tour the ground and play tournaments. Rosario YFC will also showcase any potential players to St Mirren FC ensure they get the best chance to start a career in football.

This match and community celebrations will take place on the 28 June at 7pm, with parking available at the nearby St Joseph’s College and Holy Rosary Church to limit traffic and parking disruption in the area around Ulidia.

St Mirren wish Scotland Women good luck at World Cup

St Mirren Football Club would like to wish the Scotland Women's National Team all the best at the FIFA Women's World Cup in France.

Shelley Kerr's side get their first ever World Cup campaign underway this evening when they take on England in Nice.

Kick-off is at 5pm and supporters can watch the match on BBC One and BBC Alba.

St Mirren have been big supporters of the Women's national team hosting their World Cup qualifying matches against Poland and Switzerland at the Simple Digital Arena last year.

We'd like to wish the side good luck and know they'll do the country proud.

Danny Mullen raring to go

Danny Mullen says he's already raring to go for the new season despite St Mirren's season ending just 12 days ago.

The Buddies forward scored Saints' equaliser in the Play-Off Final against Dundee United after Nicky Clark had given the Tangerines the lead.

Saints went on to win the tie on penalties to preserve their Ladbrokes Premiership status.

It completed a 'great escape' for the Buddies who looked sat five points adrift at the bottom of the league in February.

And following that dramatic end to the season, Danny admits can't wait for the new one to begin.

He said: "After a week or two off you just want to get back in.

I had a few days to relax but since then I have been keeping myself ticking over to make sure I am in the best possible shape when we come back.

"I think we are all looking forward to next season because of the way that we finished the year.

"It was a brilliant end to a difficult year but we managed to stay up and give ourselves a shot again next season.

"Hopefully we are able to continue the sort of form we showed towards the end into next year.

"I’m just counting down the days now and I am really looking forward to it."

The play-off final win came off the back of a big week for the forward following the birth of his first child - a daughter named Sophia.

He confessed it had been a crazy, but 'perfect' couple of days.

It was a whirlwind few days but everything turned out perfectly," he said.

"Both mum and baby are doing really well and it has been an amazing few weeks for all of us. The goal rounded off a fantastic period for myself on a personal level and it couldn’t have gone any better.

"To get the goal in the Dundee United game was brilliant and to do it in front of such a support was incredible.

"Now it is time for me to kick on yet again when the season comes around."

Participants are required to bring with them suitable indoor clothing and footwear (no metal studs or blades), shin guards and goalkeeper gloves (if appropriate). St Mirren Football Club can confirm that Anders Dreyer, Brad Lyons, Danny Rogers, Duckens Nazon, Jordan Holmes, Kyle McAllister, Laurentiu Corbu, Lee Hodson and Mihai Popescu have returned to their parent clubs as their loan deals come to an end.

We can also confirm that Anton Ferdinand and Simeon Jackson will leave the club following the expiry of their contracts, while Adam Eckersley has joined Airdrieonians.

St Mirren manager Oran Kearney said: "I'd personally like to thank all of the players for their efforts during their time at St Mirren and wish them all the best for the future. We are working hard behind the scenes as we look add to the squad."

Oran Kearney on Jimmy Nicholl departure

St Mirren manager Oran Kearney has paid tribute to the departing Jimmy Nicholl after the 62 year-old joined Dundee following the expiry of his Saints contract.

Jimmy joined Oran Kearney’s backroom staff in November when he became first team coach and played a vital role as the club managed to avoid relegation from the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Oran said: "I want to thank Jimmy for all his support during his time at the club.

"His experience of Scottish football was important for me when I came into the club and he played a significant part in helping keep the club in the Premiership.

"He’ll be a big miss, not just to myself, but to the players also with whom he had built a strong rapport and was a popular figure.

"The agreement was always that Jimmy would be here until the summer and we would re-assess then.

"It’s a new opportunity for Jimmy and it goes without saying that everyone at the club wishes him all the best in his new role."
