Pitch encroachment at the SMiSA Stadium

The club is currently looking into the pitch encroachment at the SMiSA Stadium during last Tuesday night’s match against Motherwell.

The incident occurred late on in the match with a section of both supports entering the field of play.

Fans are reminded that encroachment on the pitch or trackside is not permitted at any time, before, during or after the game. This is for the safety of both sets of players and supporters of all ages inside the stadium. This has been heightened by the introduction of match day red zones which are in place to mitigate against the risk of Covid-19 spread.

Encroachment is in breach of the ground regulations and therefore an arrestable offence which could lead to a football banning order as well as an indefinite club ban.

Use of Pyrotechnics

Supporter safety is a key priority for all clubs and we at St Mirren Football Club are committed to doing everything we can to ensure that the match day experience is safe and enjoyable.

One of the most dangerous things we have to deal with is pyrotechnic articles such as smoke bombs and flares in the stadium and we'd ask that you assist us to look after you by not bringing such articles with you to matches. These articles can cause severe burns, damage to hearing or breathing difficulties and their use is especially distressing for groups such as small children and those who can't easily move away when pyrotechnics are activated.

Experience shows that when a pyrotechnic is activated in a crowd there is often a movement away from the immediate area which can cause panic and disorientation and which creates a risk of slips and trips or crushing for those nearby.

Please be in no doubt that these articles are unpleasant and potentially life-threatening to be around - they are also illegal at football matches - and being caught with them will result in exclusion from The SMISA Stadium and a possible criminal conviction as well as potential financial penalties for the club.

Waste and Recycling Initiative

#BUDDIEBINIT

2021 marked the year when St Mirren became a fan-owned football club, a development that strengthened our community roots. As a club that takes its social and community responsibilities seriously, 2021 was also the year when we began our efforts to drastically reduce our carbon footprint.

Recycling Bins

Currently, we have general waste and recycling bins situated in the concourses, and we are in the process of installing new recycling bins pitchside. We want to reduce our environmental impact as much as possible and the first step is to use these bins effectively. During post-clean up the SMiSA Volunteer Squad are responsible for ensuring general waste and recyclables are divided and disposed of, and with the help from the fans, we want to make their job as easy as possible.

Food kiosks

Our catering partners Pie Sports use materials for food and beverages which are over 90% recyclable, whilst also providing vegetarian/vegan/halal food alternatives. We are working closely with Pie Sports to ensure consistency across the club.

Energy usage

To reduce energy usage within the stadium we are working with Zero Waste Scotland to gain an energy measurement to show the positive impact our efforts are having on energy usage.

Internally we are changing behaviours so that we may be as energy efficient as possible, these habitual changes can be reflected in home life too.

  • Shut down computers instead of standby
  • Use LED light bulbs instead of incandescent
  • Unplug idle electronics
  • Use a power socket to reduce plug load
  • Turn down the thermostat when not using the room

Standard Practice

A letter of commitment has been sent to the United Nations, which states that we, St Mirren FC, are committed to aligning our practices with the 5 principles of the Sports for Climate Action Framework, listed below:

  1. Undertake systematic efforts to promote greater environmental responsibility
  2. Reduce overall climate change
  3. Educate for climate action
  4. Promote sustainable and responsible consumption
  5. Advocate for climate action through communication

There are currently 3 senior football clubs in the UK that have made a commitment to the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework: Manchester Utd, Forest Green Rovers and Hibernian.

St Mirren Charitable Foundation Panda Club (11th Dec)

With the St Mirren airdome down due to inclement weather last week, the St Mirren Charitable Foundation cannot provide the pre-match football of Panda Club this weekend. However, they will still be providing Panda Club from 2:30pm-5:15pm.

The St Mirren Charitable Foundation coaches will take care of them during the game in the Tony Fitzpatrick Family Stand, the drop off and pick up will be at Drums Avenue. This is located at the south end of the stadium.

This is a pedestrian gate and is safer, quicker and much easier for both coaches and parents. Please ensure the children are wrapped up this weekend as it will be cold! The coaches will register them, bib them up, and take them into the Tony Fitzpatrick Family Stand. You can access Drums Avenue via car, but the gate itself is pedestrian access only.
