Up Next: Celtic v St Mirren (2nd Mar)

St Mirren travel to Celtic Park on Wednesday to face the league leaders in cinch Premiership action.

The Buddies lost their first match of 2022 after a 2-0 defeat against Hearts at the SMiSA Stadium. Despite that loss, Saints have been in good form this year having won six of nine in all competitions.

Celtic are three points clear at the top of the cinch Premiership following their 0-0 draw with Hibernian at Easter Road on Sunday. That was the first time they had dropped points in the league since their visit to the SMiSA Stadium in December.

A depleted St Mirren side were held to a draw with Celtic at the SMiSA Stadium the last time the sides met.

Just three days before Christmas, Saints - who were missing 12 players due to covid - battled to a 0-0 draw with the Celts.

Celtic were resounding winners when Saints visited Celtic Park in August. Ange Postecoglou's side won 6-0 with the Buddies reduced to 10 men after an early red card for Alan Power.

Saints won at Celtic Park last season with goals from Kristian Dennis and Ilkay Durmus seeing the Buddies win at Parkhead for the first time since 1990.

Stephen Robinson takes charge of Saints for the first time on Saturday as Saints take on Hearts at the SMiSA Stadium.

Saints are unbeaten in 2022 - winning six and drawing two in all competitions. The Buddies have picked up 14 points from a possible 18 in the cinch Premiership since the turn of the year with wins over St Johnstone (2-1), Hibernian (1-0), Aberdeen (1-0) and Dundee United (2-1).

Hearts sit in third place in the cinch Premiership - nine points clear of fourth placed Hibernian. Robbie Neilson's side have lost their last three cinch Premiership matches - losing to St Johnstone (1-2), Dundee (1-2) and Rangers (0-5).

Hearts have come out on top in the two meetings between the sides this season.

Despite Joe Shaughnessy's late goal, Saints were beaten 2-1 when Hearts visited Paisley in August.

The last meeting between the two came at Tynecastle with Hearts winning 2-0.

Saints last win over Hearts was in March 2020 when Jon Obika scored the only goal of the game in the last match of 2019/20.

Up Next: Dundee v St Mirren (23rd Feb)

Stephen Robinson takes charge of St Mirren for the first time as Saints take on Dundee at the Kilmac Stadium.

The Buddies maintained their unbeaten run in 2022 after Greg Kiltie's late goal earned Saints a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Livingston on Saturday.

Saints have won six and drawn two of their eight matches in all competitions since the turn of the year and sit in seventh place in the cinch Premiership.

A win on Wednesday would move the Buddies up to fourth in the cinch Premiership, while three points for Dundee would see them move off the foot of the table in the battle for survival.

Dundee go into Wednesday's match on the back of a spirited performance against league leaders Celtic on Sunday. The Dark Blues were minutes away from snatching a surprise point at Celtic Park which would have moved them to within a point of St Johnstone in the relegation play-off spot.

Before Sunday's defeat, Dundee had only lost one of their last six matches - a 2-1 loss at home to Ross County. They defeated Dumbarton and Peterhead in the Scottish Cup as well as picking up a 2-1 win against Hearts at Tynecastle in cinch Premiership action. There were also 0-0 draws with Dundee United and St Johnstone.

Saints were denied the three points the last time the sides met in November. Jamie McGrath had given St Mirren the lead before Livingston captain Nicky Devlin scored a late equaliser with the game finishing 1-1.

Alex Gogic's debut goal looked like it would make it four wins from four when Saints faced Motherwell at the SMiSA Stadium on Tuesday night. But a late equaliser from the Steelmen meant the Buddies had to settle for a point.

Hibernian have yet to win in the cinch Premiership since returning from the winter break.

Shaun Maloney's side go into Saturday's match having drawn 0-0 with their Edinburgh rivals Hearts on Tuesday night. That followed losses to Livingston (2-3) and Celtic (0-1) as well as another 0-0 draw with Motherwell.
