Up Next: Hearts v St Mirren (8th Apr)

St Mirren travel through to Scotland's capital to face Hearts for the third time in 2023.

The Buddies go into Saturday's match buoyed by a 3-0 win over Livingston at the SMiSA Stadium that saw Stephen Robinson's side move into fifth place in the cinch Premiership with three matches to go until the split.

Hearts suffered a third league defeat in a row at the weekend when Robbie Neilson's men were beaten 2-1 by Kilmarnock at Rugby Park. That came off the back of away defeats to Aberdeen (0-3) and Celtic (1-3). Despite that, Hearts still remain in third place in the cinch Premiership - a point above Aberdeen in fourth and four points ahead of Saints.

Saints faced Hearts twice in the space of six days in January - drawing 1-1 at the SMiSA Stadium before a narrow 1-0 defeat to the Jambos at Tynecastle.

Ryan Strain scored an early free-kick when Hearts visited the SMiSA Stadium, but despite numerous opportunities in the first-half, Saints couldn't find a second goal. Robert Snodgrass levelled for Hearts in the second-half to give Robbie Neilson's side a share of the spoils.

It was another case of what could have been when St Mirren travelled to Tynecastle the following week. Again, Saints created a host of chances, but Barrie McKay scored the game's only goal to give the Jambos all the points.

Up Next: St Mirren v Livingston (1st Apr)

St Mirren's first-team return from the international break with a home match against Livingston in the cinch Premiership.

Saints host the Lions at the SMiSA Stadium in a big match in the race for top six. Stephen Robinson's side currently sit in seventh - a point behind Livingston who are in sixth with just four matches remaining until the split.

A win for the Buddies would move us back into the top six at the expense of Livingston. However, the Lions know that three points would strengthen their own top six hopes.

Saints drew 1-1 away at Dundee United prior to the international break with Mark O'Hara's second-half penalty seeing Stephen Robinson's men take a point at Tannadice. Livingston defeated Ross County 2-1 at the Tony Macaroni Arena in their last match before the break.

A late Alex Greive goal saw 10-men St Mirren defeat Livingston 2-1 at the SMiSA Stadium in October. In a dramatic final 20 minutes of the match, Keanu Baccus gave Saints the lead before Jonah Ayunga was sent off for a handball. Sean Kelly missed the resulting penalty for Livingston but, with just four minutes of normal time remaining, David Martindale's side equalised through Bruce Anderson. The drama wasn't done there with Greive scoring in the 90th minute to give Saints all the points.

Both sides were reduced to 10-men the last time we faced Livingston back in December at the Tony Macaroni Arena. Scott Pittman was shown red in the first-half for the hosts before Mark O'Hara was given his marching orders 10 minutes into the second-half. Cristian Montano gave Livingston the lead, but Curtis Main levelled soon after to give us a share of the spoils.

Up Next: Dundee United v St Mirren (18th Mar)

St Mirren are back in cinch Premiership action on Saturday with Stephen Robinson's men travelling to Tannadice to face Dundee United.

The Buddies sit in sixth place in the cinch Premiership - a point above Livingston - with five matches remaining until the split. Saints weren't in action last weekend with the Scottish Cup quarter-finals taking place.

Having also been knocked out of the Scottish Cup, Dundee United too had a free weekend. However, Jim Goodwin's Arabs were in action last midweek as they drew 1-1 against Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena. With United rooted to bottom spot in the league, the point moved them to within three points of both Kilmarnock and Ross County in the battle for survival.

St Mirren have been victorious in the two meetings between the teams this season.

A Curtis Main double followed by a late Alex Greive goal saw Saints win 3-0 at Tannadice in August. That was our third win in a row against Dundee United at Tannadice having previously won 2-1 in January 2022 and 5-1 in January 2021.

Greive was on the scoresheet again when we hosted United at the SMiSA Stadium in October. The New Zealand striker scored a late winner as we defeated the Arabs 2-1 in Paisley.

Sunday's opponents Celtic have won their last six league matches and sit atop the cinch Premiership. Ange Postecoglou's side were in Viaplay Cup action on Sunday as they defeated their rivals Rangers 2-1 at Hampden to win the trophy for a second year in a row.

Saints inflicted Celtic's only domestic defeat so far this season back in September with goals from Mark O'Hara and Jonah Ayunga giving us a 2-0 win over the league leaders.

There have been two meetings between the two in 2023 so far - both at Celtic Park. Celtic won 4-0 in the cinch Premiership in January and 5-1 in the Scottish Cup in February but the scorelines were harsh on a Saints side that competed well on both occasions.

Up Next: St Johnstone v St Mirren (25th Feb)

A 1-0 win over Ross County on Saturday saw St Mirren return to winning ways and move up to Fifth place in the cinch Premiership.

St Johnstone also picked up a big three points with a derby win over Dundee United at Tannadice on Saturday. That win moved Callum Davidson's side 10 points clear of bottom side United and to within five points of a top six place.

An injury time equaliser from Nicky Clark saw St Johnstone rescue a point when the two sides last met back in November. Despite falling behind, Saints looked set to take all the points thanks to goals from Greg Kiltie and Mark O'Hara. But Clark levelled for the Perthshire side with the last kick of the ball to grab a share of the spoils.

St Johnstone ran out 3-0 winners at McDiarmid Park in the first meeting of the two sides earlier this season.

However, the Buddies won 1-0 at McDiarmid Park last April thanks to a second-half Greg Kiltie goal. That was our first win in Perth since 2014.

Up Next: St Mirren v Ross County (18th Feb)

Saints are straight back to it on Saturday with Ross County the visitors to the SMiSA Stadium.

The Buddies go into Saturday's match following a narrow loss to Motherwell at Fir Park on Wednesday night. Two early Motherwell goals gave St Mirren too much to do despite Ryan Strain pulling a goal back. Stephen Robinson's side still sit in sixth place in the cinch Premiership following Wednesday night's match.

Ross County are in 11th place - one point ahead of bottom side Dundee United. Malky Mackay's side weren't in action at the weekend having been knocked out the Scottish Cup at the Fourth Round stage.

The Staggies have won one (3-0 v Kilmarnock), drawn one (1-1 v Hibernian) and lost one (1-2 v Rangers) of their last three league matches.

A stunning Richard Tait goal was enough to give St Mirren a 1-0 win over Ross County when the Staggies visited the SMiSA Stadium in August.

County came on top by the odd goal in five when we last faced them at the Global Energy Stadium in November. Goals from Ryan Strain and Mark O'Hara had us 2-1 ahead at the break, but two second-half goals saw the Staggies win 3-2.

Saints are unbeaten in five against Ross County at the SMiSA Stadium - a run that goes back to 2015.

Up Next: Motherwell v St Mirren (15th Feb)

St Mirren return to cinch Premiership action with a midweek trip to Fir Park to face Motherwell.

It's a rearranged fixture with the original - due to take place in December - having been postponed due to extensive damage and flooding at Fir Park.

Saints exited the Scottish Cup on Saturday with a loss at Celtic, but the margin of defeat was harsh on Stephen Robinson's men with Celtic scoring four goals after Richard Taylor was sent off for the Buddies.

Motherwell also dropped out of the cup with a 3-1 defeat to Raith Rovers at Stark's Park on Saturday. That result saw the Steelmen part ways with manager Steven Hammell and assistant Brian Kerr. Motherwell Lead Development coach Stuart Kettlewell will take interim charge of the side.

St Mirren are in sixth place in the cinch Premiership having won two of our last three league matches and would move up to fourth with a win on Wednesday night.

Motherwell have lost their last three league matches but three points on Wednesday would see the Steelmen into ninth place.

The two meetings between the sides this season both came at the SMiSA Stadium with each side boasting a win apiece.

Motherwell visited the SMiSA Stadium just over two weeks ago with Curtis Main scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win for Saints.

1-0 was also the scoreline when Motherwell defeated St Mirren in July when Kevin Van Veen netted from the penalty spot.

Our last win at Fir Park was in December 2020 when Jamie McGrath scored in a 1-0 victory for the Buddies.

Up Next: Celtic v St Mirren (11th Feb)

It's the Fifth Round of the Scottish Cup for Saints this weekend with Stephen Robinson's men heading to Celtic Park on Saturday.

The Buddies secured their place in the last 16 with a penalty shoot-out win over Dundee at the SMiSA Stadium. A goalless 90 minutes and extra-time meant the match had to be decided by spot-kicks with Trevor Carson saving all three of Dundee's efforts, while Mark O'Hara, Alex Greive and Greg Kiltie all netted for Saints.

Celtic reached the Fifth Round with a convincing 5-0 win over cinch Championship side Greenock Morton.

There have been two meetings between Saints and Celtic this year with each side boasting a win apiece.

Mark O'Hara and Jonah Ayunga were on the scoresheet when the Buddies beat Celtic 2-0 at the SMiSA Stadium in September.

St Mirren also defeated Celtic in Scottish Cup action at the SMiSA Stadium in 2009 with Billy Mehmet scoring the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win. There have been two Scottish Cup meetings since then with Celtic winning 2-1 in 2013 and 4-1 in 2017.

Hibernian sit in sixth in the cinch Premiership - two points behind the Buddies. Lee Johnson's side drew 1-1 with Ross County at Dingwall after a 6-0 win over Aberdeen at Easter Road on Saturday.

Saints kick off a busy February with a trip to Pittodrie on Wednesday night to face Aberdeen.

Stephen Robinson's side moved back into the top six with a 1-0 win over Motherwell at the SMiSA Stadium on Saturday. Curtis Main scored the only goal as we moved above Aberdeen.

The Dons will be led by interim manager Barry Robson following Jim Goodwin's departure on Saturday. Aberdeen parted company with the ex-Saints boss following their 6-0 loss to Hibernian at Easter Road. That came on the back of a shock 1-0 defeat to West of Scotland League side Darvel in the Scottish Cup.

The Dons have won just one of their eight league matches since returning from the World Cup break. That was a 2-0 victory against St Johnstone at Pittodrie at the start of January. They currently sit in seventh place in the cinch Premiership - a single point behind Saints.
