Up next: St Mirren v Partick Thistle (25th July 2021)

St Mirren take on Partick Thistle on Sunday as Group H of the Premier Sports Cup draws to a close.

The Buddies defeated Stenhousemuir 3-1 on Tuesday night with Curtis Main, Kristian Dennis and Lee Erwin all scoring. That win means Saints have picked up nine points from a possible nine and sit atop the group. A win on Sunday would see Jim Goodwin's men take maximum points in the group stage for the first time and qualify for the knockout rounds.

Partick have taken six points from their opening three matches. Ian McCall's side lost 4-2 in their opening match against Dunfermline, but bounced back with wins over Stenhousemuir and Dumbarton. The Jags would have to win on Sunday to have any chance of progressing to the next round.

The Buddies faced Partick in the opening group stage match last season, with Jim Goodwin's side running out 4-1 winners at the SMiSA Stadium.

Partick were victorious in the only other meeting in the groups, winning 5-0 at Firhill in 2017.

Up next: Stenhousemuir v St Mirren (20th July 2021)

St Mirren head to Stenhousemuir on Tuesday night looking to take a step closer to progression into the knockout phase of the Premier Sports Cup.

Jim Goodwin's men sit on six points from two matches - having been awarded a 3-0 win over Dumbarton before defeating Dunfermline Athletic 1-0 at the SMiSA Stadium last week.

Saints were due to begin their campaign away to Dumbarton, but with Sons unable to fulfil the fixture, the Buddies were awarded the points.

Our season would get underway last Tuesday when Dunfermline were the visitors to Paisley. Curtis Main, netting on his debut, scored the game's only goal in front of 500 fans at the SMiSA Stadium.

Stenhousemuir have taken three points from their opening two matches - winning 2-1 away to Dumbarton last Tuesday in their opening fixture. The Warriors then faced cinch Championship side Partick Thistle at Ochilview on Saturday and led at half-time, but ultimately succumbed to a 2-1 defeat.

This will be the first time St Mirren and Stenhousemuir have faced in almost 15 years.

A John Sutton goal either side of a Billy Mehmet double gave Saints a 3-1 win over the Warriors in a League Cup second round tie at Love Street in August 2006 in the last meeting between the two.

The Buddies are unbeaten in their last six against Stenny - stretching back to a 3-1 loss in the old second division back in 1974.

In the 19 matches between the two sides, Saints have won 14, drawn two and lost three.

Dunfermline's season did get underway on Saturday as they faced Partick Thistle at Firhill in their Premier Sports Cup opener. Peter Grant's side came from behind to defeat the Jags 4-2.

Tuesday's match will come almost two years to the day since Jim Goodwin's first match in charge of Saints.

That afternoon saw the Buddies face Dunfermline at the SMiSA Stadium in what was our last meeting with the Pars. Despite goals in quick succession from Cody Cooke and Danny Mullen, Saints were edged out 3-2.

Saints had won the three previous matches against the Pars - winning 2-0, 2-1 and 1-0 in the 2017/18 season.

Up next: Dumbarton v St Mirren (10th July)

The 2021/22 season gets underway for St Mirren this weekend as we travel to Dumbarton in the Premier Sports Cup.

The Buddies go into Saturday's match following pre-season wins over Northern Irish champions Linfield and cinch Championship side Ayr United.

An Eamonn Brophy brace and a Lee Erwin strike gave Saints a 3-0 win over Northern Irish champions Linfield in Belfast on Saturday before goals from Jay Henderson, Erwin and Kristian Dennis saw the Buddies defeat Ayr United 3-1 at the SMiSA Stadium on Tuesday night.

Jim Goodwin has added five new faces to his squad with Charles Dunne, Curtis Main, Greg Kiltie, Scott Tanser and Alan Power all joining the club over the summer. All five could be in line for their competitive debuts on Saturday.

"We're all champing at the bit to get back to competitive football.

"I think it's as strong a squad as I can remember being at the club for a long time. I'm delighted with the recruitment that we've done so far."

Saturday's meeting will be the first time St Mirren and Dumbarton have faced each other for three years.

That meeting - also in the League Cup group stages - saw Saints run out comprehensive 6-0 winners at the SMiSA Stadium in July 2018.

Our last visit to Dumbarton also came in 2018 when we faced the Sons in Championship action. Cammy Smith and Stephen McGinn scored as the Buddies won 2-0.

The officials

William Collum takes charge of the match on Saturday with Gary Hilland and Kevin McElhinney as the linesmen.

Up Next: St Mirren v Dundee United (16th May)

The 2020/21 season draws to a close on Sunday as St Mirren host Dundee United at the SMiSA Stadium.

It's been a season of progress for Saints who narrowly missed out on a top finish and reached two national cup semi-finals for the first time since 1981/82.

Jim Goodwin's side are looking to end the season with their highest ever finish in the current league setup. For Saints to achieve that and finish seventh they would have to beat Dundee United and hope Motherwell fail to win at home to Ross County. The Buddies could also finish in seventh if they draw with United and Motherwell lose.

Dundee United could also finish seventh in their first season back in the Scottish Premiership. The Arabs currently sit a point behind Saints and would have to win on Sunday and hope Motherwell lose against Ross County.

Both sides come into the match on the back of draws on Wednesday night. Saints completed a comeback at Rugby Park to draw 3-3 with Kilmarnock, while Dundee United were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Motherwell.

The two sides have met three times this season with each side boasting a win.

Saints defeated United 5-1 at Tannadice in January, while the only meeting at the SMiSA Stadium this season ended in a 0-0 draw back in November.

United's win came in September as they edged out 10 man St Mirren 2-1 at Tannadice.

The officials

Euan Anderson is the referee on Sunday. The linesmen are Daniel McFarlane and John McCrossan, while John Beaton is the fourth official.

Up next: Kilmarnock v St Mirren (12th May)

St Mirren's final away match of the 2020/21 season takes place on Wednesday night as Jim Goodwin's side travel to Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership.

Saints are looking to put the disappointment of defeat in the Scottish Cup behind them and keep up the chase for a seventh place finish which would represent the highest the Buddies have finished in the current league setup.

Currently sitting in eighth place, a win for Saints on Wednesday could push them back up to seventh depending on Motherwell's result away to Dundee United.

Kilmarnock are still mired in the relegation battle with Tommy Wright's men currently sitting in the relegation play-off spot with two matches remaining. A win for the Ayrshire side on Tuesday would go some way towards avoiding automatic relegation, while defeat would set up a tense final day encounter away to Hamilton.

This is the fifth and final meeting between the two sides this season.

It was only two weeks ago that the Buddies faced Kilmarnock at Rugby Park in the Scottish Cup with Jim Goodwin's men coming out on top on penalties after a 3-3 draw in 120 minutes of action.

Saints are unbeaten against Killie in the three meetings in 2021. As well as the aforementioned Scottish Cup tie, Saints won 2-0 at the SMiSA Stadium in February and picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at Rugby Park in January.

Killie were the winners in the first match of the season between the two - winning 1-0 at the SMiSA Stadium in September.

The officials

The referee is David Munro and he's assisted by Graeme Stewart and Daniel McFarlane. Chris Graham is the fourth official.

Up next: St Mirren v St Johnstone (9th May)

It's Hampden for St Mirren again as Saints get set for the Scottish Cup semi-final.

A nail-biting penalty shoot-out win over Kilmarnock saw Saints reach the semi-final after wins over Inverness and Hamilton Academical in the previous rounds.

It's the first time the Buddies have reached the semi-final in both the League and Scottish Cups since 1981/82.

St Johnstone, who won the League Cup in February, road to Hampden began with a 1-0 win over Championship side Dundee at Dens Park. They followed that up with a 2-0 victory over Clyde at McDiarmid Park two weeks later before knocking Rangers out with a penalty shoot-out win at Ibrox.

St Mirren haven't reached the Scottish Cup final since 1987 when an injury time Ian Ferguson goal saw Saints defeat Dundee United to win the national cup for a third time.

Ironically, Dundee United were also the side that St Johnstone beat in their only Scottish Cup final back in 2014. Current St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson was assistant manager when the Perth side defeated United 2-0 at Celtic Park.

The officials

The referee on Sunday is William Collum. Sean Carr and Calum Spence are the linesmen. The fourth official is Craig Napier.

Up next: St Mirren v Hamilton Academical (1st May)

St Mirren's focus turns back to Scottish Premiership duty following Monday's dramatic Scottish Cup win over Kilmarnock.

The Buddies host Hamilton Academical at the SMiSA Stadium this weekend with Jim Goodwin's men hoping to maintain their advantage in seventh spot in the Premiership. Saints moved back up to seventh after a 3-1 win away to Ross County in our last Premiership outing.

Meanwhile, Hamilton come to Paisley sitting at the bottom of the table with just three matches remaining. Brian Rice's side are three points off 11th place Ross County and five off Kilmarnock who sit in 10th.

Accies are winless in their last eight Premiership matches stretching back to a 4-1 win against Motherwell in mid-February.

This will be the fifth and final meeting between the two sides this season.

In the four matches so far Saints remain unbeaten having won two and drawn two against the Lanarkshire side.

Both wins came at the FOYS Stadium with a 1-0 win in the league back in August, before a 3-0 Scottish Cup victory at the beginning of April.

Accies picked up a point on their last visit to Paisley with Bruce Anderson's deflected strike enough to earn Brian Rice's side a 1-1 draw in February after Ilkay Durmus had put St Mirren ahead.

Saints are undefeated in their last nine matches against Hamilton stretching back to a 3-1 loss at the SMiSA Stadium in December 2018.

The officials

John Beaton is the referee on Saturday. He'll be assisted by David Roome and Drew Kirkland. The fourth official is Gavin Duncan.

Up next: Kilmarnock v St Mirren (26th April)

St Mirren are back in Scottish Cup action on Monday as Jim Goodwin's men travel to Rugby Park to face Kilmarnock.

Kilmarnock reached the quarter-finals after wins over Stenhousemuir (4-0) and Montrose (3-1).

Both sides come into the match on the back of wins in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night. Saints won 3-1 away to Ross County while Kilmarnock defeated Dundee United 3-0 at home.

This is the third time in the last five seasons that Saints have reached the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup with our last semi-final appearance coming in 2009.

Saints were victorious in the last meeting of the two in the Scottish Premiership. Goals from Kyle McAllister and Jon Obika gave the Buddies a 2-0 win over the Ayrshire side at the SMiSA Stadium in February.

Neither side could be separated when St Mirren travelled to Kilmarnock for their first game of 2021. Danny Whitehall had given Killie an early lead before a 90th minute own-goal from Kilmarnock goalkeeper Danny Rogers earned Saints a share of the spoils.

Kilmarnock were 1-0 winners at the SMiSA Stadium in the first match between the two this season back in September.

Relegation-threatened Ross County sit in 10th place in the Scottish Premiership - a point above Kilmarnock who are in the relegation play-off spot. John Hughes' men have won just one of their last five matches - a 3-2 win over Kilmarnock in March.

Marcus Fraser and Kristian Dennis were on the scoresheet on Boxing Day as the Saints picked up a 2-0 win at the Global Energy Stadium.

The first meeting of the two sides in the 2020/21 season was at the SMiSA Stadium in August. Jon Obika gave St Mirren a first-half lead before a Nathan Sheron own-goal gained County a share of the spoils.
