Cov-19 Coronavirus

We would respectfully ask that anyone who has any cold or flu like symptoms does not attend the game this evening.

While there is every likelihood that you will just have the cold or flu it is imperative that we protect the health and wellbeing of all these who attend the game and we cannot take any risks.

Our stewards will be briefed accordingly and anyone with cold or flu like symptoms will not be admitted.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.

Information about the virus

A coronavirus is a type of virus. As a group, coronaviruses are common across the world. COVID-19 is a new strain of coronavirus first identified in Wuhan City, China in January 2020.

The incubation period of COVID-19 is between two to 14 days. This means that if a person remains well 14 days after contact with someone with confirmed coronavirus, they have not been infected.

Signs and symptoms of COVID-19

The following symptoms may develop in the 14 days after exposure to someone who has COVID-19 infection:

  • cough
  • difficulty in breathing
  • fever

Generally, these infections can cause more severe symptoms in people with weakened immune systems, older people, and those with long-term conditions like diabetes, cancer and chronic lung disease

How COVID-19 is spread

From what we know about other coronaviruses, spread of COVID-19 is most likely to happen when there is close contact (within 2 metres or less) with an infected person. It is likely that the risk increases the longer someone has close contact with an infected person.

Respiratory secretions produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes containing the virus are most likely to be the main means of transmission

There are 2 main routes by which people can spread COVID-19:

  • Infection can be spread to people who are nearby (within 2 metres) or possibly could be inhaled into the lungs.
  • It is also possible that someone may become infected by touching a surface, object or the hand of an infected person that has been contaminated with respiratory secretions and then touching their own mouth, nose, or eyes (such as touching door knob or shaking hands then touching own face)

There is currently little evidence that people who are without symptoms are infectious to others.

Preventing spread of infection

There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19. The best way to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed to the virus.

Public Health England (PHE) recommends that the following general cold and flu precautions are taken to help prevent people from catching and spreading COVID-19

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze. See Catch it, Bin it, Kill it
  • Put used tissues in the bin straight away
  • Wash your hands with soap and water often – use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available. See hand washing guidance
  • try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
  • clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
  • do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

If you are worried about symptoms, please call NHS 111. Do not go directly to your GP or other healthcare environment.

If you become unwell

  1. Contact a steward who will take you to a room to isolate yourself away from others. Try to stay at least 2 metres away from other people.
  2. Open a window for ventilation if you can, but otherwise touch objects and surfaces as little as possible.
  3. Use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service to find out what to do next.

Chairman's Update - March 2020

Tony Fitzpatrick Stand

Slowly but surely we are starting to make the stadium feel more like home.

As a board we felt that naming the stands would help with that ambition and we couldn’t think of a more appropriate way to start the process than celebrating Tony’s contribution to our club over the last 40 plus years by naming a stand after him. If anyone hasn’t seen the video where we ambushed him at the unveiling, I suggest you take a look.

We have rebranded the existing signs on the stand for now but will be installing more prominent signage during the close season.

St Mirren FC Charitable Foundation

The Foundation continues to grow and evolve and has been renamed to better reflect its status.

For the second year running Christmas dinner was provided by volunteers to ensure that people in need were not left eating Christmas dinner alone. This is just one example of the good work the foundation is doing as it continues to evolve.

One of the big fundraising events in the calendar is the Hunter Foundation Kilt Walk on April 26th. I would like to encourage all St.Mirren fans to take part in this great event and raise as much sponsorship money as possible. The Hunter foundation adds 50% to all monies raised so it is a great opportunity to assist the foundation raise funds that help stage events like the Christmas dinner.

If you are interested in taking part then please contact gayle.brannigan@stmirren.com or if you just want to make a donation you can do so here.

Rails in Vomitories

As a result of incidents at other stadiums we are having to increase the heights of the safety rails on top of the walls adjacent to the vomitories within the terracing. We are working on a design that will limit the impact on sight lines as much as possible while conforming to the new guidelines. Our plan is to have them installed before the end of the season so that people will be able to see if there is any impact on the view from their existing season ticket seat.

Shirt supplier and sponsor

Joma have been a great partner for the last three years, delivering quality products on time. We are delighted to announce that we have extended that contract for a further three years.

Skyview Capital have once again confirmed their continued support of the club as the main shirt sponsor for next season.

Energy Check have signed a three-year deal as short sponsor and will become our Official Energy Partners.

I would like to thank them all for their support.

Coronavirus

We receive regular updates from the SPFL on the latest guidelines and health recommendations and ensure that all senior staff are copied in and act on the guidelines contained within this information to minimise the risk of exposure to our staff and supporters.

We would like to reassure all our supporters that the club is in a strong financial position to deal with any eventuality that arises.

Further updates from the club on this will be available in due course.

Environment

We are constantly looking at ways we can be more environmentally friendly and with the change of all stadium and academy lighting to LED now complete we are now looking at other ways we can continue this evolution.

As part of their sponsorship deal Energy Check are carrying out assessments at the stadium and the academy to see how we can become more efficient with all our utilities.

The SMiSA clean up team do a great job cleaning up the terraces after matches. As a result of the knowledge gained by that SMiSA have researched and implemented a scheme to provide recycling bins in the vomitories in all stands to try to encourage fans to bin their rubbish and assist us with recycling.

Your help in ensuring this is a success will be much appreciated.

The Chairman

It has been an honour to be the first and last individual to own a majority shareholding in our football club. We have achieved a lot of positive things in the past 3 and a half years and I couldn’t have scripted a better end to that era than the 4-4 draw with Motherwell in the Scottish cup. That game epitomised the passion and drama that I would love to see every week.

Since we took over in 2016 we have been looking for a fan ownership model that would work best for St Mirren. I feel that, in association with SMiSA and Kibble, we have created a partnership that can stand the test of time and promote all the positives that this model can bring.

I would personally like to thank everybody who has worked tirelessly over the last 18 months to pull this together.

I thank you all for your support and, as Chairman, look forward to exploring and helping deliver all the exciting possibilities that our partnership with SMiSA and Kibble can bring to our football club.

And finally……….

The last couple of months of the season are upon us and the team need your support more than ever. It’s a cliché but the fans truly can be the 12th man and make a huge difference both home and away by bringing your positive support.

We’ve been through some testing times over the last 3 seasons and sticking together has helped us deliver a positive outcome each time.

This season will be no different.

Stay right behind Jim and the team. COYS!

SMISA members give overwhelming backing to Kibble proposal

St Mirren will become fan owned by the end of next year after SMISA members overwhelmingly backed plans to do so via a unique partnership with Kibble.

We thank everyone who cast their vote over the past fortnight on our proposals. Voting closed at noon today and the results are as follows:

YES – 782 votes (91.6%) / NO – 72 votes (8.4%)

Turnout: 854 votes (71.9% of all members, includes nine postal votes)

The results have been verified by Alan Russell, Chief Executive of Supporters Direct Scotland, whom we thank for his assistance.

The proposals on which you voted were developed over many months of discussion between ourselves, Kibble and St Mirren.

We put them forward because of our belief they offer the best possible future for our club – by securing fan ownership in a way which could move St Mirren to the next level, on and off the park, while growing it as a force for good within the Paisley community.

We are proud of and excited by what this deal makes possible for our club, and are pleased it attracted such overwhelming support.

All involved will now look to complete the legal formalities and of the deal, which will allow Kibble to buy their stake in the club from Gordon and start working with the club board to bring their expertise to the club very soon.

SMISA chair and Paisley’s MSP George Adam said: "This is a historic and proud day not just for our club but for everyone in Paisley.

"We started the journey towards fan ownership four years ago because we knew there could be no better people to safeguard St Mirren forever than the ones who will care for it most…the fans.

"This deal agreed today not only delivers that ahead of schedule but it strengthens it – our partners Kibble will help the club grow, as a business and as a force for good in the Paisley community.

"The overwhelming nature of the vote shows the extent to which SMISA’S members have bought into what this partnership will create – and we are excited by the possibilities for St Mirren."

Kibble chief executive Jim Gillespie said: "With Kibble’s roots in Paisley stretching back almost 200 years, this deal brings together two of Paisley’s oldest organisations.

"We are thrilled SMISA’s members have given us such a show of support and we plan to repay that by working together with SMISA, Gordon and the rest of the St Mirren’s board and staff to see where our expertise can help the club move forward.

"Crucially, this partnership will help change the lives of some of the most vulnerable young people in Scotland – by allowing us to step up our young workforce development programme to provide training and job opportunities based around the club’s facilities and operations."

St Mirren chairman Gordon Scott said: "When I took over as chairman four years it was always with the aim of passing the shares to the fans when the time was right.

"That day will arrive much sooner than we initially planned – but I believe this the right model, with the right partner, to build on the good work the current board has already done, and take St Mirren to the next level on and off the park.

"The new expertise Kibble will bring will allow us to find new ways to bring income into the club, and I and others on the board can’t wait to get started on working with them to do that."
