COVID-19 Week 11 Update (26th May 2020)

COVID-19 Week 11 Update (26th May 2020)

For generations, St Mirren has been a football club at the heart of the community.

You, the fans, have always been and continue to be firmly at the heart of the club. We asked you to look beyond the uncertainties of what lies ahead and 'Be In That Number' when the Saints go marching in for season 2020/21. The uptake of season tickets continues to amaze everyone and sales have now passed 1200.

#BeInThatNumber gives 2020/21 season ticket holders a personalised unique number, just like those on the Saints players’ shirts. We will be issuing these out to all season ticket holders over the coming weeks and have already issued the first 250. We look forward to you sharing them on social media with fellow fans.

Our first winning number is Ryan Watson (465), who will be the first person to own one of our new home shirts. The second winner is Gary Montgomery (889) who will have Tony Fitzpatrick as his host for a match at The Simple Digital Arena once it is safe for this to happen. As the weeks go by we will be announcing more winners.

The expected launch of the new home kit for the coming season is next month and we will give you more details in the coming weeks once we have more accurate delivery dates.

The continued investment from fans allows us to maintain the support of our Youth Academy, one of only three to receive five Star Elite status from the SFA. We want to acknowledge all the hard work being done by our academy coaches in developing the St Mirren stars of the future.

Working with players, from the under eights to the U20s, during a lockdown is especially difficult. However, the coaches are keeping in touch and finding ways to inspire them without the possibility of normal training sessions. We are incredibly proud of the work they do.

Over the course of the past week our coaches have made an additional 350 plus calls to households within our database. These calls identified another 20 families and individuals who required immediate support from mental health & wellbeing, to help with home schooling and practical assistance with food and essential item supplies. Those identified will have our full support and the support of our partners going forward and the team have thoroughly enjoyed checking in with everyone and sharing lockdown thoughts and experiences.

Last Wednesday, Tony Fitzpatrick and Gayle Brannigan were guests on the Paisley Trust Community Chat Show, we can’t thank Andy Campbell & Gary Kerr enough for the invite, we absolutely loved it, the banter was top notch. During the show Gayle was wearing my 'Straight Outta Paisley' St Mirren T-Shirt which the guys loved and as a result of that they came up with the great idea of selling them to raise funds for the Foundation.

We have now sourced a great supplier in Tracy Patrick of No8 Johnstone who prints all of St Mirren Women’s Team merchandise and should anyone wish to buy them they will be for sale from next Wednesday night when Andy & Gary will model them for us on the show.

Should you wish to purchase one you would make a £15 donation to our JustGiving page and add the message of 'Straight Outta Paisley' with your size and full name, them email gayle.brannigan@stmirren.com to provide your postal details.

We would like to thank Manorview Leisure in advance for the very large delivery of frozen meats they are donating to us this week which will provide us with nearly one full month’s worth of stock for the community fridges. Manorview were one of the first partners to come on board in week one of lock down and we thank them for their continued kindness & generosity.

And finally

We have managed our club through this pandemic in a manner we felt was in its best interests both morally and financially.

We continue to monitor our financial model 12 months in advance but, unless we get a clearer picture of what next season will bring, there will come a time when we will be forced to make some difficult decisions to ensure our club survives.

One of these decisions was to put season tickets on sale. We have made it clear that we are unsure what next season will look like but you have responded magnificently by getting behind the club and buying your tickets regardless. Make no mistake, without this support we would be in a much tougher position.

We also have players out of contract next month, many of whom have been pivotal in bringing us to where we are now in the Premiership and helping generate the income over the last four years that will go a long way to seeing us through this. We are still looking at ways of making sure all first team and academy players who would have been out of contract are supported in whatever way we can.

We are all still very hopeful that the season will start as planned and we will slowly but surely get back to whatever the new normal will be but it would be remiss of us to take that for granted.

We are prepared for whatever we need to do to make sure our club survives another 142 years and beyond!
