Match Preview: St Mirren v Hibernian (26th Nov)

It's home again for Saints as we host Hibernian in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

FORM

St Mirren - WLLLWL

Hibernian - WWLDDD

St Mirren are looking to make it two wins on the bounce for the first time this season following Saturday's 2-1 win over Ross County.

The Buddies fell behind to Brian Graham's 24th minute strike, but Sean McLoughlin scored his first St Mirren goal on the edge of half-time to draw Saints level. With just a few minutes of the match remaining, Sam Foley sealed three valuable points for Jim Goodwin's side with a terrific finish from 18 yards.

Brian Graham's goal was just the second Saints have conceded at home in the league this season and was the first goal conceded at home in the league from open play since a 1-1 draw with St Johnstone in April.

Saturday's win made it three wins from six at home in the league for the Buddies this season and two from the last two.

Hibernian come into tonight's match having won their last two matches. Jack Ross, appointed Hibernian manager last week, led his side to a 3-1 win over Motherwell on Saturday in his first match in charge. That win came off the back of an impressive 4-1 win away to St Johnstone before the international break.

PREVIOUS

Saints were narrowly beaten by a late Scott Allan goal when the sides met on the opening day of the 2019/20 season at Easter Road.

The Buddies looked good value for a point but, with less than five minutes remaining, Allan netted a winner for the home side.

Hibernian were victorious on both of their visits to Paisley last season - winning 1-0 in September 2018 and 3-1 in January 2019.

St Mirren's last win over Hibernian came at the Simple Digital Arena in March 2017. Stelios Demetriou scored either side of half-time to give Saints an important 2-0 win as we went on to complete the 'great escape' and avoid relegation to League One.

FAMILIAR FACES

The Edinburgh side will bring a number of familiar faces to Paisley this evening.

Hibernian manager Jack Ross spent two years at St Mirren as a player and managed the Buddies to the Ladbrokes Championship title and promotion to the Premiership in 2018. He is assisted at the Hibees by another ex-Buddie, John Potter.

The Hibernian playing squad also boasts a number of ex-Saints with St Mirren Youth Academy graduates Jason Naismith and Stevie Mallan among their ranks as well as Darren McGregor.

ONES TO WATCH

After a slow start to life at Hibernian, Christian Doidge has hit form in recent weeks scoring four goals in his last two games which includes a hat-trick in the 4-1 win at St Johnstone.

Scott Allan has impressed at Easter Road since rejoining the Edinburgh side from Celtic in the summer. It was Allan who hit the winner when the sides last met on the opening day of the season.

TEAM NEWS

Only Kirk Broadfoot is out for Saints.

MANAGER'S THOUGHTS

"Hibs are a very good team and have obviously had a really good lift with Jack going into the club as well. They have got a really big squad and have got a lot of quality to choose from so we'll have to make sure we are at it.

"Jack is a good guy. He has a good manner about him, we are very similar in terms of how we want to play the game. Hopefully that will make for a very good and very entertaining game.

"I hope the fans give him a warm welcome because I think he deserves that. But as soon as the referee blows that whistle and the game kicks off it is important to remember that he is the enemy after that and we want to try and make his night as difficult as possible."
