St Mirren FC announce Cooperation Agreements with Dumbarton and Clydebank

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce new strategic partnerships with William Hill League Two side Dumbarton and Lowland League club Clydebank as part of the new Cooperation System recently launched by the Scottish Football Association.

The Cooperation System was passed by clubs earlier this year following the findings of the Scottish FA’s Transition Report published in 2024 which showed that there hadn’t been enough opportunities for younger players between the age of 16 and 21.

The system allows the club to place a maximum of three players, who are eligible to play for the Scotland National Team and are under the age of 21, on a cooperation list. These players can then move freely between St Mirren and Dumbarton & Clydebank.

Transition Pathway

In line with our club strategy to improve academy player integration, the club aims to provide individual development plans involving coaching and mentoring for players between 16-18, resulting in clear pathways being set out and monitored for our best high potential young players.

Our academy transition model emphasises developing academy players and recruiting strategically to enhance squad depth and value. The integration of academy graduates into the first team will remain a priority, as we focus on nurturing homegrown talent and optimising the financial sustainability of the club.

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson said: "I firmly believe in the loan system to develop our young players and something that hindered that previously was not being able to bring them back at certain stages or leaving yourselves short in numbers.

"With the cooperation agreement, we are able to get them into men's football and develop under other coaches. Hopefully, we can also help the coaches and the clubs they are going to. It will be a great benefit for both parties.

All in all, I believe it's a brilliant way to develop young players in Scotland and doesn't compromise any young players coming back into the first-team."

Academy Director, Allan McManus added: "We’re looking to build a strategy that’s going to help our young players get more experiences towards first-team football.

The earlier we get young players exposed to first-team football, the better opportunities they’ll have to go further in the game.

"We feel that any of our players that will go will be looked after and treated the right way. Hopefully it’s the start of a positive relationship that will last several years and we’re excited that our young ones are going out there.

We’re all excited about the new cooperation agreements and the flexibility within them. I think it really helps the young players, they have the opportunity to be playing and learning. If they are thriving, then the manager can bring them back at any time and utilise them in the squad.

"Part of our strategy as a football club is that we want to engage with our local community and the surrounding areas as well. Longer-term we want to build more of these agreements and we believe it’s going to make a significant difference in the development of our young players."

St Mirren Chief Operating Officer Keith Lasley added: "As per the Scottish FA’s Transition Report, it has been shown, as a country, that we need to try and produce more young footballers for the national team.

From a club point of view, it’s something that we want to do as well. Making sure we transition as many young players from our academy into the first team, and make that pathway as clear and concise as possible, is a key point of our Performance pillar in our club strategy.

"We see these cooperation agreements as a key step forward in allowing us to be more strategic in our planning and think long-term rather than what has been traditionally a short-term, reactive process.

"We look forward to working with both Dumbarton and Clydebank. A big part of our strategy is working locally and we see this as a big development."

View from Dumbarton

Dumbarton boss Stevie Farrell said: "As a management team we have shown that we're not frightened to give young players an opportunity. And that will continue this season.

"I met with Keith Lasley and Allan McManus on several occasions and I think this is the perfect fit for both clubs.

"We have had a close working relationship with St Mirren over recent seasons which has allowed us to bring some talented players to the club, and we are now going one step further by formalising this.

We have brought three talented players to the club this summer under the partnership and I am looking forward to working with St Mirren, giving younger talent, along with our own youth players, the opportunity to take their first steps in the senior game."

Clydebank manager Gordon Moffat explained: "It’s really positive news. We’ve had that relationship with St Mirren going back to last season when we brought Owen (Carey) into the club on loan. We’ve built the relationship at our level with Allan McManus and Craig McLeish, and now the clubs are building a relationship at boardroom level through the partnership.

It’s something I think is a real positive for Scottish football more widely. When we realised it could be an option to have that with St Mirren, we were keen and happy they have seen enough in us.

"They trusted us last season with Owen, and we’ve had a few other lads in training with us so it’s really positive.

It does a lot more than just bringing players in, there’s potential for us as coaches to go in and watch some sessions and learn from them so it’s a really good move for both clubs."

Partnership working underway

As part of the cooperation agreement, Carrick McEvoy, Thomas Falconer and Theo McCormick have all joined League Two side Dumbarton, while defender Billy Hutchison will also link up with Clydebank in the Lowland League.

Club Statement

St Mirren Football Club would like to address concerns surrounding our wheelchair, ambulant disabled supporters’ and carer tickets.

This season we had administered our policy more tightly than in previous years. We must stress that this was not done for financial gain. This was strictly to ensure fairness for all supporters.

Clearly, we cannot respond to individual cases via social media or discuss them with any other interested parties. However, we fully acknowledge that this tightening of policy wasn’t effectively communicated, and some supporters have been adversely affected. The implementation could and should have been handled better and we apologise. We have been listening to supporters and understand the sensitivities around this matter. As a fan-owned club, we value measured feedback from supporters and wish to assure them that we do care, we do listen, and we do want to improve.

While we have already renewed the vast majority of those affected, with all wheelchair season ticket holders from last season renewed, we will be ensuring that all 2024/25 ambulant disabled season ticket holders get their 2025/26 season ticket at the ambulant disabled rate pending a club review. On an individual basis, refunds will be offered on request to those that have already changed category and bought at full price. Please visit the Ticket Office to claim your refund. We encourage anyone with any further questions or need for support to please visit or contact the Ticket Office where our staff will be happy to help.

Going forward, the club will review its policies and processes regarding the level of PIP/DLA/ADP required, as well as the communication within the policies and processes, to draw up an improved policy. We are currently engaging with relevant parties and individuals as we look to put in place a working group to improve our policies and processes and will update supporters further when the working group has been established. This working group will be formed in the coming weeks. The findings of the review will help shape an improved policy and this will be clearly communicated with all supporters upon its completion.

We can also confirm that a cross section of operational staff will be undertaking training in the coming months regarding the ongoing support of disabled fans and the wider community.

We thank you for your continued support of the club.

Chairman’s Statement Ahead of Season Ticket Launch 2025/26

The season isn’t over yet and we continue to push to finish as high as possible in the league. However, I wanted to write to you ahead of our 2025/26 Season Ticket launch to thank you, on behalf of the Directors, for your fantastic support throughout what has been a challenging but very successful campaign.

Following this season’s record season ticket sales you’ve backed us in record numbers again and the team have responded magnificently by delivering another Top Six finish.

It’s been a roller coaster of a year in many ways but the resilience, quality and performances from the players delivered once again. I’m sure, like me, you’ve enjoyed seeing the team become more competitive against the top teams in the country. They may enjoy bigger budgets but with great organisation and attitude it’s remarkable what can be achieved. I believe it’s been the same in the stands at The SMiSA Stadium where your vociferous backing has inspired the players to score many late goals and deliver excellent team performances. Thank you.

Behind the scenes Keith and his team have continued to improve the effectiveness of the business. They all work so hard for the club, along with our volunteers, and they are rightly receiving increasing recognition for the successes across the key areas of our strategy - Paisley, People and Performance. They do a brilliant job with the budget available.

As you’ll be aware we face increased costs across the board. Following the imposition of increased Employers’ National Insurance, a rise in the living wage and the effect of inflation, both our direct costs (wage costs) and indirect costs (stewarding, policing and other supplies) have risen significantly. However, by limiting the increase in season ticket prices as much as we can, our tickets for the season ahead remain very competitive when compared to our Premiership rivals. This is particularly the case for concessions and young people - our fans of the future.

It’s always difficult when prices rise, but we want to remain competitive in the Premiership and give Stephen and his staff as much support as we can. I’m sure you’ll agree with me that he has spent wisely on the squad and we have also continued to invest where we can at the training ground and the stadium to provide the best possible environment for them to train and perform. We also want to enhance facilities for our loyal fan base and hope to deliver further improvements to the match day experience in the coming season.

As a majority fan owned club, it’s critical that we continue to increase the sales of season tickets and I hope as many of you as possible will choose to renew your tickets or join the increasing number of season ticket holders. It’s also a perfect time to join SMiSA and contribute to the ongoing progress of the club. SMiSA has contributed vital monies in the past and if we can grow their membership further it will increase their ability to support the club financially in the future to help us compete with the clubs that have significant external financial investors.

Thanks again for your loyal and unstinting support.

Club Statement

St Mirren Football Club is appalled by the contents of a video circulating on social media that shows a St Mirren fan with additional support needs being verbally abused by opposition supporters during Saturday’s match. We condemn this in the strongest possible terms.

This behaviour is completely unacceptable and has no place at our stadium, in football or wider society.

Our 'Everyone is Welcome, We’re All Buddies' campaign promotes inclusivity at St Mirren Football Club and we want to make the matchday experience at The SMiSA Stadium an enjoyable one for everyone.

The club will work with Aberdeen FC and relevant authorities to identify the persons responsible.

Club Statement - Refereeing decisions

St Mirren FC is disappointed with the decision not to award a penalty in the first-half of yesterday’s match against St Johnstone following a foul on Elvis Bwomono.

A VAR review cleared this decision without requiring the referee to look at the incident on the pitchside monitor. The club has spoken to Scottish Football Association’s Referee Department today seeking clarity on this and other decisions in yesterday’s match.

Clearly, we are all humans and mistakes will happen. However, there has now been an accumulation of errors made against St Mirren. This is hugely disappointing for the club and our supporters, and we will continue to engage with the Scottish FA to improve standards of officiating.

Stadium closed on Friday 24th January due to red weather warning

The SMiSA Stadium, St Mirren Ticket Office and Club Shop will all be closed tomorrow (Friday 24th January) due to the red weather warning issued by the Met Office.

The St Mirren Ticket Office will now open on Saturday morning between 9am-11am for anyone wishing to collect tickets for Saturday's William Hill Premiership match away to Aberdeen.

Club Statement - St Mirren v Dundee United

St Mirren Football Club is aware of an incident on Saturday where a coin was thrown onto the pitch during our match against Dundee United at The SMiSA Stadium.

The club condemns this completely unacceptable behaviour in the strongest possible terms and is working with Police Scotland to find whoever was responsible.

Anyone found to be responsible will be subject to a football banning order and club ban.
