Men's Shed

Members of the Star Project, Paisley Men’s Shed, a local charity that aims to tackle mental health issues and offers learning and skill sharing, received an early Christmas present of a brand new base to call home.

This was all thanks to generous contractor, Cruden Building who, in partnership with Link Housing Association, responded to a cry for help from St Mirren Community Trust.

The Men’s Shed group, which meets at the Star Project, needed a new site and St Mirren Community Trust worked with them to help facilitate the move.

Cruden Building are currently building 26 new affordable homes nearby at Abbey Quarter, on behalf of Link Housing Association.

When they were contacted by St Mirren Community Trust to see if they could lend a hand, Cruden Building surprised the charity by providing and installing a welfare container free of charge.  The team also laid the foundations and paving and supplied the self-contained unit with its own generator power supply.

Allan Callaghan, Managing Director of Cruden Building said: "As with all of the projects that we carry out, it’s important that we give back to the local community – not just through providing local jobs for local people but also in leaving a lasting legacy on the local area.

"In this case it was our privilege to help this important project and see first-hand the real difference it’s made to the lives of this inspiring group of men."

Gayle Brannigan from St Mirren Community Trust helped facilitate the move. She said: "When I found out from the Star Project that the men needed a new home, we provided an area near the stadium for the project to use and I offered to try and source the welfare container for them.

"It was beyond all of our wildest dreams that the team from Cruden, together with Link Housing would immediately respond to our cry for help and donate a substantial amount of time, resources and labour.  They really have given the men the best Christmas present they could have.

"The new sheds are the perfect place for the men to meet and already they are making new friends and planning days out together.”

Peter Rae, Link Housing Association’s Community Investment Manager added: "Link is delighted to have partnered with Cruden to deliver this innovative and community-focused initiative.

"The Men’s Shed facility will provide a number of benefits for both the men who use the space and the wider community.  Link’s work on this project compliments our wider community investment strategy and the community-focused activities we undertake across our areas of operation."

New Signing: Greg Tansey

St Mirren Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Greg Tansey.

Tansey put pen to paper on an 18 month deal shortly after being freed by fellow Premiership side Aberdeen today.

The thirty-year old started his career with Stockport County before heading north to the Highlands in the summer of 2011 to sign with Inverness Caley Thistle. A year later he headed south again for two seasons with Stevenage.

He returned to Inverness in 2014 where he would total 190 outings for Caley Thistle before signing for Aberdeen in the summer of 2017.

The delighted midfielder spoke to stmirren.com shortly after signing. He said: “I’m delighted to be here – it has been a bit of a hectic week. As soon as I heard the interest from St Mirren, I was keen to come down.

“I have played here many times for Inverness and I like the ground, the atmosphere and I know the club has got a great support. The training ground is top notch as well so it was a no-brainer for me.

“Now I am back fit and feeling good so it brilliant for me to have a fresh start and get my teeth into a new challenge. I think I needed a fresh start. Now I am fit and I appreciate being fit a lot more."

Greg is also keen to get on with the task ahead when the season resumes in a couple of week's time. He said: “I think we have got the squad to hit the ground running after the break – I wouldn’t have came here if I thought otherwise. We have a massive chance to kick on in the second half of the season and be looking at the teams above us in the league instead of behind us."

After a number of players leaving the club over the last week, manager Oran Kearney was pleased to bring in a fresh face to the squad. He said: “It has been quite a long transfer but to get to this point now and to have it done, we are delighted."

The manager said of Greg Tansey: “He brings a pedigree and experience. The fact that he has a huge amount of games behind him at this level and done fantastically well is brilliant.

“He has an enthusiasm and wants to be here, from day one in my chat with him, Greg has shown a great desire to come here. That is very important to me, I want someone that is up for the fight and that really wants to come here and kick on."

Alloa tickets on sale

Tickets are on sale for our William Hill Scottish Cup match against Alloa Athletic at the Simple Digital Arena on Saturday 19th January 2019.

Tickets, which are on sale at the St Mirren Ticket Office and online, are priced at £17 for adults, £9 for over-65s and £4 for under 16s for Saints’ first match of the new year.

We are disappointed that we could not come to an agreement with Alloa for cheaper ticket prices.

We had wished to charge minimum prices, however, as per Scottish FA rules, both clubs have to agree on a price and if an agreement cannot be reached then charges which are normally made for regular fixtures of the home club apply so we had to agree to compromise.

The Buddies will be back following a three-week break as St Mirren Hall of Fame inductee Jim Goodwin brings his Alloa side to Paisley.

And with the January transfer window in full effect by the time the game comes around we expect a few new players in the squad so get your tickets now as we look to progress to the Fifth Round.

Season ticket holders will have until January 11th to purchase their own seats after which time all seats will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis.
