Liam Donnelly signs until summer 2027

St Mirren Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Liam Donnelly on a deal until summer 2027 subject to clearance.

Manager Stephen Robinson has bolstered his squad with the signing of the versatile Northern Ireland international who joins on a two-year deal following the expiry of his contract at fellow William Hill Premiership side Kilmarnock.

Beginning his career at Dungannon Swifts, Liam moved to Fulham as a youngster and would have spells at Crawley Town and Hartlepool United before making the move North to join Motherwell in 2018. The 29-year-old would spend four years at the Steelmen where he scored 13 goals in 71 appearances.

Following his exit from Motherwell in 2022, Liam signed for Kilmarnock where he made 91 appearances in three seasons and was part of the Killie side that finished fourth in the William Hill Premiership in 2023/24. He now joins up with Saints to become our fifth signing of the summer following the acquisitions of Killian Phillips, Roland Idowu, Richard King and Jayden Richardson.

Speaking on signing, Liam told stmirren.com: "I know the manager well and have seen the success of the club the past few years. I want to be a part of that and hopefully we can do similar this season.

I just need to focus on getting my foot in the door and making sure I'm doing well enough to be in the manager's thoughts for the starting eleven.

"It's a very good setup at the stadium and the training ground. Everyone has been very welcoming."

Manager Stephen Robinson said: "I've worked with Liam before and he's a really competitive player.

"Technically, he is very good as well and he gives us options in numerous positions. Liam can play anywhere in the back three, he can play at full-back in a four or he can play as a six or an eight in midfield as well, so it gives us a real lot of options in terms of where we can play him.

He's someone we feel will bring real competition to the squad. We run with a small squad so Liam's versatility could be invaluable through the season.

"He's had injuries in the past that he's over now as he knows how to manage his body. He's a tough competitor and gives us a real physicality as well as quality on the ball."
