St Mirren Reserves showed great character to earn a 2-2 draw with Motherwell after being reduced to 10 men at Broadwood this afternoon in the SPFL Reserve League.
After a goalless first-half that saw Cammy Breadner and Finlay Gray go close for the Buddies, it was Saints who took the lead at the start of the second-half. Ethan Erhahon's throw-in met Josh Jack on the touchline. The forward returned it to Erhahon who swung a terrific ball into the middle to meet substitute Jay Henderson who rose highest to give Saints the lead.
But no sooner had the Buddies taken the lead than Motherwell were back on level terms. Almost immediately after the restart the ball in the Saints net with Chris Long finishing from close range after meeting a Christy Manzinga ball across the face of goal.
Saints were reduced to 10 men on 67 minutes as Finlay Gray was given his marching orders for a second yellow card following a professional foul.
Long grabbed his and Motherwell's second with 10 minutes remaining. The forward collected the ball 20 yards from goal and unleashed a rasper into the left-hand corner of the Saints net.
David Wilson made a good double save with just a few minutes to go to deny Jermaine Hylton and Long extending Motherwell's lead.
And how important those would prove to be as Saints found a leveller at the death. Motherwell goalkeeper PJ Morrison spilled a Henderson free-kick at the feet of substitute Carter Frew who rolled into the empty net to earn the Buddies a well-deserved point.
