Form
Saints sit in ninth place in the William Hill Premiership with 10 points from our opening 11 league matches. Prior to the international break, the Buddies were beaten 3-0 by Hibernian at The SMiSA Stadium. Our last league victory came at The SMiSA Stadium at the end of September when Killian Phillips' goal gave us a 1-0 win over Dundee.
Celtic, under the interim charge of Martin O'Neill and Shaun Maloney, have won their last two league matches, defeating both Falkirk and Kilmarnock at Celtic Park by 4-0 scorelines to close the gap on league leaders Hearts to seven points with a game in hand.
The Hoops have lost their last three away matches in all competitions with defeats at Midtjylland (1-3), Hearts (1-3) and Dundee (0-2).
The Buddies were agonisingly close to taking a point at Celtic Park on the opening day of the season. A late deflected strike from Luke McCowan saw Celtic win 1-0 at Parkhead in August. The Buddies were also denied a famous victory at Celtic Park at the end of last season. Jonah Ayunga had given Stephen Robinson's men the lead early in the second-half, but an injury-time strike from James Forrest saw the hosts snatch a share of the spoils.
Celtic were victorious on their last visit to The SMiSA Stadium, but it came after a controversial end to the match. The Buddies twice fought back to draw level in the match with Declan John and Killian Phillips scoring. Celtic led 3-2 heading into the final minutes of the game and Saints were denied what appeared to be a stonewall penalty after a foul on Roland Idowu in the box. The visitors would then net two late goals to win 5-2.
Our last win over Celtic came in September 2022 when goals from Mark O'Hara and Jonah Ayunga saw us win 2-0 and end Celtic's 38 game unbeaten league run.
