Up Next: St Mirren v Celtic (11th Feb)

St Mirren are back at The SMiSA Stadium on Sunday for the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup.

Saints host Celtic at the Fifth Round stage for the second season in a row. The Buddies reached the Fifth Round after defeating cinch League One side Queen of the South at The SMiSA Stadium last month. Alex Gogic's header secured a 1-0 win and passage into the last 16 for Stephen Robinson's men.

The Buddies go into the match in good spirits on the back of two important cinch Premiership wins at home to Dundee (2-0) and away to Hibernian (3-0).

Holders Celtic defeated Highland League side Buckie Thistle 5-0 in the previous round to ensure their place in the Fifth Round. The Hoops hold the record for the most Scottish Cup wins having won the trophy on 41 occasions including five in the last seven.

Brendan Rodgers' side come into the match having scored an injury-time penalty to beat Hibernian 2-1 at Easter Road on Wednesday night. That came off the back of a 1-1 draw with Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Saturday.

Previous

St Mirren and Celtic meet at this stage for the second season in a row.

Celtic were victorious in that meeting last season, but the 5-1 scoreline was harsh on Saints who - for 75 minutes - competed well with Celtic until a red card for Richard Taylor saw St Mirren reduced to 10 men and the Hoops go on to score four goals in the final 15 minutes of normal time.

The Buddies have faced Celtic once in the Scottish Cup Final, almost 100 years ago when goals from our greatest ever goalscorer Davie McCrae and James Howieson saw us win our first of three Scottish Cups in 1926. Saints also beat Celtic on our way to winning the 1959 Scottish Cup - defeating the Hoops 4-0 at the semi-final stage.

Our last Scottish Cup victory against Celtic came at the SMiSA Stadium in 2009 when Billy Mehmet scored the only goal in a 1-0 win.
