Match Preview: Motherwell v St Mirren (18th February)

Saints take on Motherwell with a place in the quarter-finals of the William Hill Scottish Cup up for grabs.

FORM

St Mirren - LDDDDL

Motherwell - LDLLDW

The Buddies were due to face Motherwell at Fir Park on Saturday in Ladbrokes Premiership action, but the weather conditions created by Storm Dennis saw the match postponed.

Both sides come into the match having lost narrowly last Wednesday in the Ladbrokes Premiership. Despite Jon Obika's eighth goal of the season, St Mirren were beaten 2-1 at Livingston, while a 93rd minute winner for St Johnstone saw Motherwell lose at McDiarmid Park by the same scoreline.

St Mirren's last win came in January in the William Hill Scottish Cup Fourth Round as the Buddies saw off Broxburn Athletic 3-0 at the Simple Digital Arena.

Motherwell's last win was also in January when Stephen Robinson's side defeated Aberdeen 1-0 at Pittodrie in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

PREVIOUS

This will be the fourth meeting of the two sides this season with Motherwell having won two

The two sides last faced off just 10 days ago in the match that set up tomorrow's replay.

Mark O'Hara opened the scoring for Motherwell in the first-half at the Simple Digital Arena, but Alex Jakubiak scored his first St Mirren goal with less than 20 minutes remaining to ensure Saints got another crack at qualification for the quarter-final.

St Mirren have travelled to Fir Park already this season when Jim Goodwin's men visited in October in Ladbrokes Premiership duty. The Steelmen ran out 2-0 victors with James Scott and Chris Long scoring either side of half-time.

TEAM NEWS

Gary MacKenzie, Kyle Magennis, Stephen McGinn and Ryan Flynn all remain out for Saints.

Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson told the press yesterday that forwards Chris Long and Mikael Ndjoli will miss out for the Steelmen.

MANAGER'S THOUGHTS

"We plan and prepare the same way we always do.

"It's important to reiterate to the players that the game is on right up until the last minute. If the players are thinking the game is going to be off then it's hard to switch that mindset again. They have to be of the mindset that the game will be 100% on but I would expect the game to go ahead.

"Our preparation is the exact same. The meeting we had on Friday hasn't changed from the meeting we've had this week.

"It is really is a huge expense for fans and I honestly don’t know how some of them do it. There are three games in a week sometimes, £25 plus a ticket, it’s mega money. I take my hat off to them. Their level of commitment and passion for their teams is brilliant."
