Remembering Those That Have Passed | 2023/24

As we do every year, we will be remembering all the St Mirren supporters that have sadly passed away throughout season 2023/24.

The club will be honouring those that have passed at our home match against Kilmarnock on Saturday 11th May.

If you would like the name of someone who has passed away this season to be included on the big screen during the applause then please email scoreboard@stmirren.com by 5pm on Wednesday 8th May.

Our thoughts to all the families who have lost loved ones throughout the season.

FamZone CANCELLED due to weather warnings

Due to weather warnings issued across Scotland for this weekend, we've made the difficult decision to cancel the FamZone event at The SMiSA Stadium on Saturday.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind, rain and snow until 10pm on Saturday evening.

The club apologises for any disappointment caused by this cancellation, but it has been made in the best interests of spectator safety. Our hope is to reorganise the event at one of our home matches following the league split.

St Mirren Chief Operating Officer Keith Lasley said: “We are clearly very disappointed that we have had to take the decision to cancel this weekend’s planned FamZone event.

"While a lot of hard work has gone in to making this event a reality, after discussions with our suppliers, the decision to cancel has been taken on safety grounds following the weather alert issued by the Met Office.

"We were all really excited about the activities planned for Saturday, which would have made it the biggest pre-match entertainment event at The SMiSA Stadium. We are now working towards bringing the FamZone to one of our remaining home matches before the end of the season."

Your Home-Start Support Helped 180 Children

Your overwhelming Home-Start support, donating gifts at our match at the beginning of December against Ross County, has helped local families massively as thanks to you, 180 children and 50 parents received Christmas gifts.

We called for fans to contribute and join the efforts of Home-Start in ensuring families with young children have an extra helping hand. You exceeded all expectations with generous donations of toys, selection boxes and toiletries. Often focus is solely on children but with your additional support, parents and carers were gifted too.

It is challenging raising a young family all year-round and Christmas brings added demands to parents. The strategic partnership between the club and Home-Start has the potential to further increase the impact of any essential fundraising activities. St Mirren understand Home-Start’s purpose as it matches our community-driven vision.

Through working alongside Home-Start, the club have committed to providing family tickets for all generations to enjoy a day out together, making memories. The initiative is in addition Help a Buddie ticket donations. The profile of Home-Start is also raised as regular updates are shared. St Mirren’s Chief Operating Officer, Keith Lasley is an ambassador for the local charity to ensure we fully collaborate with the dedicated team members who help families across Renfrewshire and Inverclyde.

Thank you for exemplifying the power of Scottish football fans.

Keith Lasley, St Mirren Chief Operating Officer, shared the dedication the club has to put the community first in decision-making: “The generosity of our fans is special and is exactly what our club stands for. St Mirren’s mission is to be the best community centred football club and through the strategic partnership with Home-Start we can widen our reach and offer extra support to even more families.

“Each week our family stand is filled with parents or carers, grandparents, children and siblings, all making memories. We understand all families can need support and alongside Home-Start, our own initiatives like Help a Buddie and St Mirren charitable foundation activities, we’ll help make sure those across Renfrewshire who ask for a helping hand have options to receive support.”

Lisa Carberry, Home-Start Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Interim Director, expressed her gratitude to the club: “It is fantastic to have St Mirren fans join our efforts in supporting local families with young children. It is not easy to raise a family and we want parents, carers and grandparents to know we are here to be a listening ear and helping hand. We are overwhelmed by the support shown to us from the Paisley club’s sports fans.”

Supporter Update

We were extremely disappointed with the pyro issues that we experienced at our game against Motherwell at the weekend, and recognise the concerns that have been raised by our supporters on these.

Our club has worked tirelessly to educate our supporters regarding the dangers of pyro and the hazardous substances they contain. St Mirren supporters have been mostly compliant at both home and away fixtures in accepting the fact that we want to improve the fan experience in a safe way. Unfortunately, there continue to be individuals that attend football matches intent on breaching safety regulations; regulations set for the benefit of every person attending.

We would like to reassure you of the fact that appropriate action was, and continues to be, carried out against these individuals and this will continue until as many culprits as possible are appropriately dealt with through collaboration and close work with authorities. Specifically in relation to the Motherwell game, a further meeting took place with Police Scotland yesterday to discuss the pyro issues we experienced, amongst other concerns that were identified around the match.

In the wider context, be assured, we are working with the SFA, SPFL, the Government and Police Scotland to try to stop scenes like Saturday. This has already involved changes in legislation through numerous discussions between relevant authorities. Search protocols are involved when planning for each fixture at The SMiSA Stadium and this minimises risk with searches being undertaken on Saturday which identified a number of issues that would have otherwise caused further concerns during the game. Elimination would have been impossible given the intent of individuals and potentially some groups, secreting these devices around their person, however we are looking further at the feasibility of other means of detection.

As a club we hope to have your continued support in trying to deal with these hazards and criminal acts appropriately which involve mechanisms that require several agencies working together to create a safer environment for supporters. We will continue to engage with all segments of our support as we aim to enhance the matchday experience for everyone visiting The SMiSA Stadium.

Thank you again for your feedback and we hope that this information has provided some reassurance that the concerns that have been raised are being tackled.
