St Mirren head to Bayview Stadium in Methil tomorrow to take on East Fife in the Scottish Cup. 

Saints qualified for the fifth round of the cup after defeating Premiership side Dundee 2-0 at Dens Park last month. 

The Buddies last game, away to Dumbarton, showed a more clinical St Mirren side. The Saints had five shots with three on target, in a 2-2 draw with the Sons with goals from David Clarkson and debutant Harry Davis. 

While St Mirren still sit at the bottom of the league, the Saints' cup form throughout the season is cause for encouragement following eight wins from nine ties. In the third round, Jack Ross' side seen off Lowland League team Spartans, 5-1 at the Paisley 2021 to set up the fourth round tie with Dundee. 

East Fife’s League form has been encouraging for the Fifers. Saturday’s hosts have gone eight games without a defeat in the league, with their last coming at home, losing 1-0 to Queens Park, back on 19 November.

Their last five results have seen three draws and two wins, with one win over, runaway league one leaders, Livingston, on Hogmanay. This leaves the Fifer’s in fifth place in the league and still in contention for a promotion play-off place.

East Fife’s last match showed how aggressive they could be, with 12 shots, eight on target, six corners and 12 fouls committed as they drew 2-2 with Queens Park. 

The last round of the Scottish cup seen East Fife, once again, beat Livingston, 1-0. However, in the previous round The Fifers had to rely on a cup replay win over struggling League two side Edinburgh City after a draw at Bayview.

The Methil side have been on great form with thanks to top scorers Jamie Insall, who has scored six league goals, and Kevin Smith and Scott Robinson, who have both scored five.

With eight games undefeated, conceding just five in that time and seven clean sheets this season, East Fife are not to be taken lightly.

After last week's frustration of drawing against Dumbarton last weekend, captain, Stephen McGinn believes his team have the quality to proceed to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup.

Looking back on last week's draw, McGinn admits it was a sore one to take: “It took the best part of the week to get over it. It was a game we felt we had won.

Teams find it difficult there [at Dumbarton]. Dundee United have lost twice there, so on reflection it was a good point. We were the better team for long spells in the game.”

With East Fife on an eight match unbeaten run, McGinn knows they will be a tough opponent. 

I do not think we are in a position to disrespect anyone," he said. "We are not used to winning games and we need to get into that habit.

"We will go up there, they are on a great run, we are not on a good one ourselves but we need to go and try to win the cup tie.”

Some may argue that the cup games may be an unwanted distraction but the Buddies captain thinks it will benefit the players. He said: "We are really happy we have two cup games coming up.

Some boys have not played in a few months so it is a good chance for the boys to go get some minutes in. At the end of the day we are in the business end of two different cups.”

Although the main aim this season is to remain in the Championship, McGinn refuses to believe that each game is not as important as the next.

The 28 year-year old said: “Just because we are not playing in the league does not make the game less important. We need to get together, play together and get our fitness as a team and win the game.”

Between now and the middle of March, St Mirren have four home matches starting with the IRN-BRU Cup semi-final against Welsh side The New Saints on Sunday 19th February.

Saints will also have home matches in the Ladbrokes Championship against Hibernian (1st March), Dunfermline Athletic (11th March) and Dundee United (15th March).

The St Mirren Under-20 side are back in action next midweek when they play host to their counterparts from Kilmarnock.

The SPFL Development League encounter between the young Buddies and Killie on Tuesday 14th February will take place at The Paisley 2021 Stadium and will kick-off at 6:00pm.

A new date has been confirmed for St Mirren’s Ladbrokes Championship match against Dundee United which was postponed due to Saints’ involvement in next weekend’s IRN-BRU Cup semi-final.

The match against The Tangerines will now take place at The Paisley 2021 Stadium on Wednesday 15th March. The fixture will kick-off at 7:45pm.

St Mirren's wheelchair facilities have been praised by a national disability-access review website.

Euan's Guide is a UK-wide site that reviews buildings, venues and businesses over access for people with disabilities

And in a recent article on Scottish football grounds, the Paisley 2021 Stadium was (along with Celtic Park) one of only two grounds given an overall five-star rating.

St Mirren recently opened a new disabled platform at the back of the main stand, in partnership with the St Mirren Disabled Supporters Association.

The platform was part-funded by members of SMISA as the first contribution from their quarterly members spend under the #BuyTheBuds scheme.

Club chairman Gordon Scott said: "We are very proud of the disabled facilities here at the Paisley 2021 Stadium, which were recently upgraded to include the new platform. It is nice to see the club being recognised by this website."

John Clark, chair of the St Mirren Disabled Supporters Association, said: "The disabled set-up at St Mirren is now among the best in Scotland and that speaks well not only of SMISA members, but of the wider fan base.

As co-secretary of the Scottish Disabled Supporters Association I will seek to share the good practices and example set at St Mirren.
