Loan Watch: 03/04/2023

We have a number of our players out on loan at clubs across Scotland. Here's a look at how some of them got on at the weekend.

Jay Henderson only managed 11 minutes in Inverness Caledonian Thistle's 2-1 win over Morton in the cinch Premiership after picking up an ankle knock. Toyosi Olusanya was an unused substitute as Arbroath took a big step towards survival with a 2-0 win over Ayr United on Friday night.

In cinch League One, Dean McMaster played the full 90 minutes for Airdrieonians as they picked up a big three points in a 1-0 win away to Alloa Athletic. That strengthened the Diamonds' promotion hopes as they sit five points clear of fifth place FC Edinburgh in the play-off spots.

Gavin Gallagher played the full 90 minutes in a tough afternoon for Dalbeattie Star as they were beaten 6-0 at home to Cowdenbeath in the Lowland League.

Stephen Robinson delight at "terrific" Saints performance

The manager gave his reaction following our 3-0 win over Livingston in the cinch Premiership.

Three first-half goals see Saints pick up the points

Three first-half goals saw St Mirren pick up the points against Livingston and move into fifth place in the cinch Premiership.

Tony Watt's first Saints goal came either side of two Mark O'Hara penalties as the Buddies moved back into a top six place at the expense of the visitors. It was a result that saw Stephen Robinson's men win their ninth home league match of the season - the first time we've done so in 36 years.

Saints got off to the perfect start when we were awarded a penalty after a handball that occurred inside just 15 seconds from kick-off. It took a lengthy VAR check before referee John Beaton awarded the spot kick after checking the monitor. O'Hara stepped up and slammed home from 12 yards to put us ahead on five minutes.

The Buddies bright start was rewarded further when Watt scored his first goal for St Mirren on 18 minutes to double our lead. The forward got on the end of a low ball from Curtis Main and rounded Livingston goalkeeper Shamal George to roll into the empty net.

Saints passed up a huge chance to make it 3-0 just after the half-hour mark when Main sprang the offside trap and raced clear on goal. The forward had options in the middle but elected to try and chip George who managed to gather. But a third goal would come after we were awarded a second penalty for another handball on 41 minutes. O'Hara was on hand to score his 10th of the season to put us 3-0 in front. Saints thought they'd added a quick-fire fourth when Main knocked home Ryan Strain's free-kick two minutes later, but the offside flag denied the forward his seventh goal of the season.

The visitors had two big opportunities to pull a goal back in the opening minutes of the second 45. A header from substitute Cristian Montano forced a terrific save from Trevor Carson before Livingston captain Nicky Devlin drilled inches wide of the far post.

Strain almost added a sensational fourth for Saints on 50 minutes after nifty footwork from the Australian saw him fashion the space on the edge of the box to get the shot away, but the effort flashed just wide. Nouble should have reduced the deficit 10 minutes later though the forward blasted over the bar after outmuscling the Saints defence to go clear on goal.

Saints saw the remainder of the game out comfortably to move back into the top six with three matches to go before the split.

Help a Buddie | Cahonas Scotland

April is Testicular Cancer Awareness Month.

We've donated the latest batch of Help a Buddie tickets to Cahonas Scotland - a Scottish Charity committed to raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of Testicular Cancer.

Paul McCaffery, Cahonas Scotland Community Engagement Officer, visited the SMiSA Stadium to collect the tickets and told stmirren.com: "These tickets benefit the charity in a significant way.

Not only does it help raise our profile with St Mirren Football Club but also the wider community. The recipient will have the opportunity to feel a positive action taken by their local club and experience a game day they might not have had this season."

About Cahonas Scotland

Cahonas are Scotland’s biggest testicular cancer charity, educating, creating awareness, eradicating embarrassment and stigma, and installing a new healthy habit that could one day save a life.

The organisation is on a mission to stamp out late detection of testicular cancer. It gives men the lowdown and educates them on the signs and symptoms of testicular cancer and empowers them to have the confidence to see a doctor if they notice any changes. Early detection means more effective treatment and the potential to save lives.

Founded by Ritchie Marshall in 2009, the charity’s main goal has been to fill the void in the education of young men in Scotland about testicular cancer. Cahonas Scotland grew from the recognition that although male cancer awareness was slowly growing, there was no real Scottish focus and their mission is to get testicular health on the agenda from an early age.

Paul told stmirren.com: "Our main mission remains the same, however through the hard work of our CEO Ritchie Marshall, the charity has evolved from a single employee to being able to take on a Community Engagement officer to further our goal to take away the stigma and embarrassment around testicular cancer."

What Cahonas Scotland do

Cahonas use their awareness talks to educate people about testicular health, influencing more open discussion regarding the subject.

Their talks help to promote monthly self-checks amongst men, and their visits to events, workplaces and education establishments help get the message out about the symptoms of testicular cancer and how to check for them.

Early detection means more effective treatment and Paul told us about the importance of regular checks and how Cahonas’ self-check guide can be lifesaving.

In 2015 I was diagnosed with testicular cancer, so speaking from personal experience, it saves lives. That might sound grandiose, but I’m a cancer survivor because of Cahonas and Ritchie putting the self-check guide out all those years ago.

"We aim to continue to grow and have a real-world impact in Scotland. We want the conversation around testicular cancer to be encouraged and the information to be widely available.

"Our goal is to create a resource for all places of business, schools and wherever needs educational resources, to be made available, to help spread awareness and promote the importance of early detection through regular self checking."

Bargarran Primary School receive tickets for Saturday's match

New signing Caolan Boyd-Munce visited Bargarran Primary School alongside Kieran Offord as the Erskine school received tickets for Saturday's match against Livingston.

Caolan and Kieran handed over the tickets at the school before taking part in a Q&A with pupils who asked the pair questions about their favourite moments as footballers, what a footballer's diet consists of and how their inspirations are.

As well as the visit from the players, pupils also received a day of football coaching from our Street Stuff coaches.

This was the club's sixth visit to a Primary School in Renfrewshire this season. Primary school visits are a vital part of our ongoing community engagement efforts with the club having already arranged players visits to Our Lady of Peace, West, Todholm, Fordbank and Willamsburgh Primary schools so far this season.
