St Mirren Energy Partner Utilita Freeze Prices

St Mirren's official energy partner, Utilita Energy, has confirmed it will hold its prices throughout the winter.

Utilita Energy partnered with the club earlier this year, and for every St Mirren fan who signs up using exclusive promo code 'BUDDIES', Utilita Energy will donate £25 to the club's youth academy.

Each fan will also receive a free and exclusive limited edition St Mirren smart meter In-Home Display cover - and a tariff guaranteed to be cheaper than the Big 6*

The rising challenger brand recently celebrated reaching 450,000 customers - up from just 200,000 in July 2015 - by reassuring them it will freeze ALL of its gas and electricity tariffs until at least April 2017.

"We do all we can to give our customers the fairest deal possible so I am delighted we can reassure them they will not be paying more this winter - we will continue to do everything in our power to help Britain's hard-pressed families," said CEO Bill Bullen.

"We have seen many other suppliers - large and small - increase their prices in recent weeks, creating uncertainty and fear for many of their customers. Utilita's customers will not have the same worries this winter."

Smart Pay As You Go provider Utilita has held a Price Commitment aiming to always be cheaper than the Big Six since 2008* - cutting its gas prices five times since 1 January 2015. Its last price rise came as far back as August 2014.

Buddies can sign up NOW - head to http://www.utilita.co.uk/st-mirren and type in the promo code 'BUDDIES' when switching - or call 0345 206 8777 and quote 'BUDDIES'.

Tony Fitzpatrick on his new book

St Mirren Chief Executive Tony Fitzpatrick's latest book 'The Dream' featuring the Adventures of Babakoochi Bear and friends is out now and is available to purchase on the St Mirren E-Store for just £9.99 plus P&P with all profits from the book going to the Five Little Stones social enterprise.

The books have been inspired by Tony's young son, also named Tony, who passed away at the age of six after suffering from Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. stmirren.com sat down with the Saints Hall of Fame inductee about the new book, how he feels now it is finished, his inspirations for it and having Sir Alex Ferguson's endorsement.

Q: Tony, the new Babakoochi book is out now, the second one that you have written, tell us about how you feel now it is done?

A: It's an incredible feeling to be honest because if you knew my background - I'm dyslexic. That's why I say to any young kid or anybody that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. It's just wonderful to see it now. All the hours and months and months of sitting writing, when you see it finished it's just a proud moment - for me personally but also my family. Especially, hopefully, for the legacy of Tony because that inspired me to write the stories.

Q: What kind of sense of pride do you get when you are actually physically holding the finished copy knowing that you've done this and that it's the second one that you've done?

A: It's a surreal feeling when I hold it and I smell it, I love the smell of a new book as well. It's hard to put into words how you feel. I think it's like anybody in life, if they've worked hard and then they see the finished article, maybe a young footballer who has worked so hard to become a professional player and then signs his professional contract. Something you've dreamed about is now in your hands and it's an incredible feeling.

Q: With your background as a footballer and your background in youth development how long has a football book with Babakoochi been in the planning?

A: Jed McCabe of Inspire Sport, I have to give him a great credit. I've written about 30 stories over the years to be honest and I had a meeting with Jed. He was chatting away and then said "Tony, have you never thought about doing a football story?" and it was a lightbulb moment. I had never ever thought of it and I felt silly.

That very night I went home and something came on the telly about how a young boy had been told he was too small to be a footballer. I remembered back to myself being told as a kid that I was too small, I wasn't quick enough, I wasn't strong enough, I wouldn't be a footballer. I thought, like the first book with its message of bereavement and trying to cope with it, lets go on a journey with Babakoochi with him being told all these things by the doubters and how he comes through it with great resilience, great character, leadership etc. to fulfill his dream.

Q: How much do you draw on your own personal experiences throughout the book?

A: I think you do, it's natural because it's in you. When I was writing the story, Babakoochi's school teacher has a go at him and back in my time I wasn't interested in school, I'd be sitting daydreaming and stuff and as a kid I remember the school teacher laughing at me and telling me that I'd never be a football player and that I was hopeless. Babakoochi goes through this. You have to draw on that inner experience and I do go back into my own experiences as a kid and I've used that a lot in the book.

Q: What feelings do you get when you are writing your books in terms of going into your past and reflecting on that?

A: The first book I had written was a great healing for me. It was about bereavement and anti-bullying and that brought up a lot of grief for me because I lost my son. When I was writing that story with Tony in mind I was laughing at times, I was crying at times so I was going through the whole bereavement process when I was writing the book and I felt a great inner peace after it was finished.

This book has taken me into my childhood and they talk about healing the inner child, but that's what it does. I would recommend it to anybody because everybody has a story in them and even if you just sit and write it really does heal you and that's what this has done for me. For every bit of hard work I've put into this I've got double out of it.

Q: Babakoochi is based on your son Tony, was it something you saw or hoped for him that he'd become a footballer?

A: Yeah he loved football. Before he had taken illness at four and a half years old, just before he started school, when he was just two or three years old, when you played the ball to him he could control it, pass it, he loved football. The great thing for me in my life was running out at Love Street - we played Hearts - and Tony was the mascot that day with the St Mirren strip and he kicked the ball about Love Street. He loved St Mirren and he wanted to play for St Mirren so it was a great moment.

Q: Sir Alex Ferguson wrote the foreword for the book, how much did that mean to you because I know how much respect for have for him?

A: Sir Alex changed my life completely and he was like a second father to me. He was at Tony's funeral and we've always kept in touch through the years. He loved the last book and we got talking and when I told him that Babakoochi was going to play under Sir Alex Bearguson he started laughing. I said I was going to get someone in football to do the foreword and he told me that he would do it. I spent the full day with him and he endorsed the book as well.

David Clarkson: Looking at the positives

David Clarkson says the players are looking to take the positives into Saturday's trip to Tannadice as the Buddies face Dundee United in their last away trip of 2016.

Saints came from behind to draw 1-1 with Ayr United at the Paisley 2021 Stadium at the weekend after Clarkson's cross was turned in by John Sutton to earn the home side a point.

The draw meant St Mirren have taken seven points from a possible nine over the last three matches and the forward admits that the players are optimistic heading into the weekend's match.

Speaking to stmirren.com after the 1-1 draw about going up to Tannadice on Christmas Eve to face second place Dundee United, Clarkson said: "We've got to look at the positives all the time. Whether it be first half performances or second half performances you take that and try to put that into the next game.

We take all of these things on board, we analyse them and make sure going into the next game away to Dundee United that we are at it and we're looking positively at it and hopefully get three points.

"That's what you're looking for - momentum. When you start winning games you want to keep going and even drawing games keeps it going. An important point keeps our momentum going and it keeps the boys going as well because when you get in that wee run you want to keep it going and keep winning games.

"We take the positives going into next week - another hard game for us - but we are going there in confidence knowing we can go and win."

Clarkson says he's happy that the team are turning performances into results and believes that Saturday's draw against Ayr may have ended in defeat just a few weeks back.

It shows the fight that we have in us at the moment considering that a few weeks ago we'd have maybe lost that game 1-0. It shows that the confidence is back a bit, the fight is back to go to 1-1 and we potentially could've won it after a few opportunities.

"We're disappointed not to win but to comeback to 1-1 shows the character the boys have and the drive we have to not lose the game.

"We've worked hard since the gaffer came in," he continued. "At the start the results didn't go for us but you're now seeing that the performances are there, the results are there so it's good that it's paying off.

"The gaffer has worked hard with the things he wants to put in place and the boys have really taken to it. It's good we are now getting rewards from it. Hopefully the fans can see it as well and it's good we are getting the results we are deserving."

Reaction | Jack Ross on the draw with Ayr

Jack Ross gives his thoughts as Saints draw 1-1 with Ayr United at the Paisley 2021 Stadium.

Match Report: St Mirren 1-1 Ayr United

Saints made it three games unbeaten in a row after drawing with Ayr United this afternoon, but it arguably should have been a third successive victory.

With the game goalless, the Buddies were awarded a second-half penalty when Jason Naismith charged into the box before being fouled by Paul Cairney. It seemed the perfect way to open the scoring, only for Lawrence Shankland to send his spot-kick wide.

A few minutes later, the gaping wound had salt rubbed into it when Jamie Adams slotted a pass through the middle of the defence and Cairney shot past Scott Gallacher. Adams' afternoon was then brought to a premature end when he was shown a straight red card for sending Kyle McAllister flying as he charged forward.

Saints threw everything at the Honest Men in a bid to find an equaliser and it arrived with 10 minutes left, David Clarkson crossing for fellow sub John Sutton to mark a century of Buddies appearances by heading his side level. It was another of the subs who went closest to grabbing a crucial winner for the hosts, Ryan Hardie's spectacular effort from distance hitting the bar.

Sutton was benched to make way for Stevie Mallan, who was returning from illness, with Andy Webster taking over in defence from the injured Ben Gordon. Ayr stuck with the side that narrowly lost to Dundee United last week, former Buddie Gary Harkins starting in midfield.

He indirectly played a part in Ayr's first chance, his deflected shot winning his side a corner that led to a scramble with Alan Forrest's shot being blocked on the line. Saints quickly broke and won a corner of their own, Gary MacKenzie denied a first Buddies goal when his thumping header was cleared. Lewis Morgan and Kyle Magennis both failed to find the target with efforts from the edge of the box as Saints looked for an early goal.

It almost came in bizarre circumstances. Mallan's long range effort looked to be going well off target but it had taken a deflection, giving the ball some crazy spin that almost saw it drop into the bottom corner. Instead, it went the wrong side of the post, Shankland's shot from the resultant corner posing no problems for keeper Greg Fleming.

It was open stuff with both teams looking dangerous on the counter attack and Ayr should have taken the lead when Robbie Crawford's free-kick was knocked on to the onrushing Scott McKenna, however he somehow managed to rattle the bar rather than burst the net. Webster flicked a Saints corner across goal and beyond the far post and Nicky Devlin had a header saved by Scott Gallacher before Saints came as close as they'd come to scoring. Shankland got the better of his defender and sent a low shot beyond Fleming but also the far post.

Half Time: St Mirren 0-0 Ayr United

The second half was a slow burner but came to life just before the hour mark. First of all, Ayr were unlucky not to take the lead as they picked their way through the Saints back-line before Gallacher reacted brilliantly to deny Harkins. Then, as the Buddies attacked, some tremendous passing play got Naismith in behind the defence but just as he was about to shoot he was clipped by Paul Cairney. Ref Greg Aitken had no hesitation in pointing to the spot before booking Cairney and the responsibility fell on Shankland to convert the spot-kick. Unfortunately he couldn't, slotting his penalty the wrong side of the post to the horror of the home fans.

And things were soon to get a whole lot worse for the Buddies. Jamie Adams' pass sliced straight through the middle of the Saints defence and found Cairney, who completed his redemption by side-footing past Gallacher to put the visitors in front. Not for the first time at home in the last few months, Saints suddenly found themselves chasing an equaliser having looked the more likely side to opener.

Mallan burst forward to the edge of the box only to waste a glorious chance by shooting wide, then McAllister drew a tremendous save from Fleming, the keeper tipping the youngster's long range shot round the post. Next time he had the ball McAllister charged forward like a man possessed until his run was cynically and brutally brought to an abrupt end by Adams. Once again Mr Aitken didn't waste any time and instantly sent the Ayr man off, much to the ire of his team-mates although his manager Ian McCall later admitted it was probably the correct decision.

Saints could sense blood and, with John Sutton and David Clarkson already on, threw Ryan Hardie into the mix. The change in system had the desired effect almost immediately as Clarkson swung in a cross from the right and Sutton stooped down to head the ball past Fleming. It was the striker's 100th appearance for Saints and it seemed appropriate he mark it with the sort of goal he's scored numerous times before.

Having got level, the Buddies went in search of a winner, Hardie clipping the bar with a long ranger that took a touch off an Ayr man on its way. However, with Saints pushing they left themselves exposed at the back and as the defence screamed for offside, sub Kevin Nisbet tried to take advantage to drag his shot wide of the far post. Saints' best chances were falling to Mallan and it looked like he'd repeated his trick from Queen of the South game, except this time his long range shot was just the wrong side of the post. Deep in stoppage time the Buddies won a corner but Sutton's header was easily dealt with by Fleming as the two sides had to settle for a draw that did neither side much good.
