Stephen Robinson says he'd love to reward the St Mirren support with a trip to Hampden ahead of this evening's Premier Sports Cup quarter-final tie against Kilmarnock.
The Buddies face the Ayrshire side at the BBSP Stadium, Rugby Park tonight with the winners progressing to the last four and earning a trip to Scotland's National Stadium at the beginning of November.
The manager has stressed that chances like these don't come around too often and has urged his players to find a way to win.
Speaking to the media, the gaffer said: "You see the display the fans put on Saturday away at Falkirk and what they’ve done during the season, the amount of effort and time and money that’s spent on it, you’d love to reward them.
St Mirren supporters are expected to turn out in big numbers this evening.
"I’ve said to the players, you know, sometimes these opportunities come round once in a career. I’ve been very lucky that it’s come round a few times. But that doesn’t often happen. So you have to grab these opportunities.
It can bring the whole town together. It can really lift people's spirits, people rely on this football club. A lot of times it's their life and what they cling on to. So we'll be doing everything in our power to make sure we're in that semi-final.
'We want to progress in any way possible. It doesn’t have to be the best performance in the world, but you have to find a way to win."
Saints haven't won at Rugby Park since a penalty shoot-out victory in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup in April 2021. And the manager is aware of the task on hand and admits the Buddies will have to be at their very best if they are to win.
'It’s a tough game," he said. "I’ve watched Killie three times this season. It’s going to be a tough task.
"They’ve got some very, very good players. They’ve got a lot of physicality in the team, but also a mix of really talented boys as well, some we know very well.
So we have to be at the top of our game. We weren’t on Saturday. We’ll have to have a better performance on Saturday to progress."
Robinson also gave an update on Marcus Fraser after the defender had to be substituted in the first-half of Saturday's win over Falkirk with an ankle injury.
While early indications are that the injury isn't quite as worrying as was initially feared, the 31-year-old will see a specialist before any timeline is put on it.
"We've had scans and we don't think it's maybe as bad as we first feared. He's seeing a specialist to get that confirmed. We'll hold fire on whether we're happy with it or not yet, but hopefully it's not as bad as we first feared."
