Countdown to 150th Anniversary

Countdown to 150th Anniversary

The countdown has officially begun!

We are proud to announce the launch of our 150th anniversary celebrations, marking a century and a half of football, community and the unwavering support from generations of Buddies.

On 6th October 1877, St Mirren Football Club played its first match, defeating Johnstone Britannia 1-0 at Shortroods. Work has now begun behind the scenes to make 2027 a year of celebrations worthy of our rich history.

Our club has been shaped by generations of players, staff, and supporters all of whom have contributed to our club’s history and these celebrations will provide a platform to share memories and recognise all that makes our club special to us as supporters.  We are Paisley's team, and this celebration will mark and reflect the deep bond between club and community.

This anniversary is as much about looking back and honouring our past as it is about building our future. We want this to be a celebration for everyone associated with St Mirren - from our youngest supporters to those who have followed the club through thick and thin for decades.

This is our club, our history and our celebrations and there will be opportunities for everyone to be involved.  Over the coming weeks, the club is putting together a planning committee to bring the anniversary celebrations to life in 2027.  This committee needs representation from across all sections of our support.

St Mirren FC Chairman, John Needham is looking forward to what lies ahead: "As we approach the 150th Anniversary of our great club in 2027 I'm delighted to see the preparations begin in earnest.

The Board of Directors are delighted to have Fraser Robertson leading the organisation of the celebrations alongside Keith and the Board. Currently Chief Financial Officer at Rabbie's Tours and a lifelong fan, Fraser brings great organisational expertise and a record of delivering significant projects. Watch out for the chance to get involved in the various initiatives."

One or two of the club's famous faces are also excited about what lies ahead…

It has been a great honour and privilege to be part of St Mirren Football club. The club has served the community for almost 150 years and I’m delighted to be taking part the celebrations.

"St Mirren has been the heartbeat of Paisley and Renfrewshire through the good and difficult times and continues to serve as a fan owned club. Long may this continue. COYS!"

Steven Thompson

"It’s an absolute pleasure and honour to be involved in the clubs 150th anniversary celebrations. St Mirren has been such a big part of my life and my family’s too giving me some memories that will last forever.

"Players come and go as I did as do managers and staff members who all contribute to making it such a special club but one thing that never leaves through generations is the supporters and they/we deserve to celebrate together our amazing club."

Keep an eye on our website and social channels for updates across the coming weeks and months. Together, we’ll make this a celebration to remember.
