Statement: SMiSA SGM on VAR
Following the recent Special General Meeting requested by a SMiSA member to formally request the SPFL to poll member clubs on the following question: "Does the member club support the retention or removal of VAR from the 2026/27 season onwards?”, the St Mirren Football Club Board of Directors have decided, at this time, not to progress the resolution.
While the St Mirren FC Board of Directors understand supporters’ concerns around VAR and take these seriously, they believe that the club should continue to work constructively with the Scottish FA to seek improvements to its implementation and operation rather than call for a vote on its retention.
The St Mirren Board has continued to engage with the relevant football authorities, including discussions with senior Scottish FA officials responsible for VAR and through the club's Chief Executive Officer on relevant committees.
The Board remains committed to engaging with supporters on the issue and, should tangible improvements in the operation of VAR not materialise, will consult with supporters when considering the club's future position.
