The iconic Scottish football event of the 80s and 90s made its return with all 12 William Hill Premiership teams taking part.

Saints were represented by a team of Ludovic Roy, Scott Walker, Lee Mair, Paul Rudden, Barry McLaughlin, Simon Lappin, Mark Corcoran, David McKenna and Jose Quitongo, while Gary Peebles took charge of the side at the event. Hugh Murray had been due to take part as player-manager, but unfortunately suffered an injury which ruled him out of the event.

The Buddies were presented with a tough draw ahead of the event, finding ourselves in a group with finalists Celtic and Rangers as well as Kilmarnock.

Match one on Saturday afternoon saw us face up to a strong Rangers side in the final game of the first session. A terrific free-kick from Lappin gave us an early lead, but we would end up 7-1 behind heading into the final few minutes of the match. Quitongo netted a consolation brace to see the match finish 7-3.

Saints faced Kilmarnock in the second Saturday session and another Quitongo double saw us fightback from 1-0 down to go 2-1 in front. But Kilmarnock would net twice to win 3-2 and leave the Buddies with it all to do on Sunday against eventual winners Celtic.

Saints could have potentially still qualified had they defeated Celtic and scored four goals in the process to pick up a bonus point, but we would fall to a 4-0 defeat that saw our Tennent's Sixes adventure come to an end.

We'd like to say a huge thank you to the players who took part and represented St Mirren over the weekend.
