It's first versus second in the William Hill Premiership on Saturday as Saints host Celtic at the Marbill Coaches Stadium.

The Buddies maintained their unbeaten start in the William Hill Premiership with a first league victory away to Kilmarnock since 2013 on Wednesday night.

Fraser Taylor's first St Mirren goal gave us all three points in Ayrshire and made it three wins from four for Craig McLeish's men.

Opposition

Celtic have won all four of their William Hill Premiership matches so far this season and sit atop the league on 12 points.

An opening day 1-0 victory over Dundee at Celtic Park was followed up by a 5-1 win away to Kilmarnock. Martin O'Neill's men then defeated Falkirk 2-1 at Celtic Park last weekend before a 3-0 win at home to Aberdeen on Wednesday night. Celtic's Kasper Hogh, Camilo Duran and Benjamin Nygren are all tied with Saints' Killian Phillips and Rangers' Lawrence Shankland as top scorers in the with three goals each.

The Hoops were dealt European disappointment after a 5-4 aggregate defeat to LASK in UEFA Champions League qualification. Ex-Saint Miguel Freckleton featured for the Austrain champions as they turned round a 4-0 deficit to qualify for the Champions League league phase.

Celtic added six new players to their squad this week with the arrivals of Oliver Sorenson, Sam Johnstone, Shim Mheuka and Landon Emenalo on loan, while Jordan Lotomba and Joel van den Berg signing permanently.

The two sides met five times last season with Saints triumphing against the Hoops in the Premier Sports Cup Final in December. Marcus Fraser opened the scoring before the now departed Reo Hatate equalised for Celtic. Jonah Ayunga netted a second-half double to see the Buddies lift silverware on a famous day at Hampden.

Three of the meetings were in the William Hill Premiership where Celtic won 1-0 on all three occasions, two at Celtic Park and one at the Marbill Coaches Stadium.

A Mikael Mandron brace saw Saints come from 2-0 down to level 2-2 against Celtic at the National Stadium in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup to take the game to extra-time. But a flurry of Celtic goals saw them walk away 6-2 winners in the last meeting between the two.

Our last league victory against the Hoops came at the Marbill Coaches Stadium in September 2022 when goals from Mark O'Hara and Jonah Ayunga either side of half-time saw the Buddies end Celtic's 38 game unbeaten run domestically.
