Opposition
After relegation in 2024/25, St Johnstone returned to the top-flight at the first time of asking after winning the Championship last season. The Perth side saw off competition from Partick Thistle to bounce straight back.
Simo Valakari's side made a winning return to the William Hill Premiership on Sunday, after defeating Kilmarnock 4-3 at McDiarmid Park. They twice led through goals from Josh Fowler and Cheick Diabate before finding themselves 3-2 down. But an own-goal from Michael Schjønning-Larsen and a Kai Fotheringham strike saw St Johnstone pick up an opening day victory.
The Perth Saints have added ex-St Mirren defender Daniel Finlayson to their squad after he joined from relegated Livingston. Goalkeeper Toby Steward has returned on loan from Portsmouth after a successful spell at McDiarmid last season, while Ruari Paton signed a permanent deal after his loan move in January. Logan Chalmers, Unax Alvarez, Matty Todd and Macaulay Tait have all signed permanently with Zach Mitchell joining on loan from Charlton Athletic.
Previous
This will be the first meeting of the two sides since February 2025. Bozo Mikulić scored a second-half goal on that afternoon to give the Perth side a 1-0 win at The Marbill Coaches Stadium.
St Mirren were the victors in the three previous fixtures, winning 3-2 at McDiarmid Park in December 2024, 3-1 and 2-0 at the Marbill Coaches Stadium in October 2024 and February 2024.
Referee Team
The referee on Saturday is Ross Hardie and he'll be assisted by Chris Rae and Ross Nelson. Joel Kennedy is the fourth official.
