Saints travel to Rugby Park on Wednesday night to take on Kilmarnock in the William Hill Premiership.

The Buddies maintained their good start to the league season with a 3-3 draw at home to Motherwell on Sunday which kept Craig McLeish's men sitting second in the table.

Opposition

Kilmarnock have faced a tough start to the league season and sit bottom of the table after losing their opening three matches. Neil McCann's side were defeated 4-3 by St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park on the opening day. The Ayrshire side were defeated 5-1 by Celtic at Rugby Park the following weekend.

A break from the league saw Killie beat rivals Ayr United 3-2 in the last 16 of the Premier Sports Cup to progress to a quarter-final tie against Aberdeen.

Killie's return to league duty saw them lose 4-0 to Dundee United at Rugby Park on Saturday.

The two sides met five times last season in all competitions.

Saints came out on top in the first meeting at Rugby Park last season in the Premier Sports Cup. It went all the way to extra-time and penalties after 2-2 draw in 90 minutes. The Buddies prevailed 5-3 in the shoot-out to reach the semi-final. Kilmarnock won 2-0 when the sides met at Rugby Park in league duty a few weeks later.

Neither side could be separated at the Marbill Coaches Stadium in December. Saints were left frustrated in a 0-0 stalemate.

Kilmarnock won the final two fixtures of the season, coming out on top 4-3 when the two sides faced at Rugby Park in February before winning 3-0 at the Marbill Coaches Stadium in May.
