We face Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday for matchday eight in the William Hill Premiership.

Despite battling performances against both Celtic and Rangers, where we were edged out 2-1 and 1-0 respectively, Saints went into the break on the back of a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home to Dundee United.

Opposition

Hearts sit in third place in the William Hill Premiership after picking up 13 points from their opening seven league matches.

Wouter Vrancken's side have beaten Dundee United (4-0), St Johnstone (2-1) and Dundee (2-1) at Tynecastle, while defeating Hibernian 3-1 at Easter Road.

Hearts went into the international break following a 1-1 draw away to bottom side Kilmarnock. Stephen Kingsley scored a late equaliser at Rugby Park to see the Edinburgh side take a share of the spoils.

The Jambos' two league defeats this season have both come away from home, losing 2-1 at both Aberdeen and Falkirk.

Previous

St Mirren were victorious in our last match against Hearts. Miguel Freckleton scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win at the Marbill Coaches Stadium in February.

Hearts defeated Saints 2-0 when we last visited Tynecastle. Lawrence Shankland and Tomas Magnusson scored the goals for the Jambos in January.

The other league meeting came at the end of October last year and finished 2-2 at the Marbill Coaches Stadium. Dan Nlundulu gave Saints the lead before Lawrence Shankland equalised. Miguel Freckleton scored in the second-half to give Saints the lead again but saw a third goal controversially ruled out. Claudio Braga then grabbed a leveller for the Gorgie outfit.

Our last win at Tynecastle came in April 2023 when goals from Curtis Main and Alex Gogic saw us win 2-0.

Referee Team

The referee on Saturday is Nick Walsh. Frank Connor and Daniel McFarlane are the assistants. Alastair Grieve is the fourth official.

Andrew Dallas is the VAR.
