Richard Tait signed a two-year deal with St Mirren in July 2020 after leaving fellow Scottish Premiership side Motherwell.
Tait, primarily a right-back, can play across the back four and became Jim Goodwin's first signing of the 2020/21 season.
The 30-year-old was born in Galashiels but started his career in England with spells at Curzon Ashton, Nottingham Forest, Tamworth, Cambridge United and Grimsby Town before returning to Scotland to play for Motherwell.
Tait made his St Mirren debut in the opening day of the 2020/21 season against Livingston and scored the winner.
